Dave Andreychuk scores 31 seconds into overtime to give the Sabres a 6-5 win over the Penguins at the Igloo in Pittsburgh. Andreychuk had 38 goals to lead the team and seven game-winners in his second NHL season. It was the first of seven straight wins for the Sabres, including three in overtime, which had been introduced to the NHL that season.

Dominik Hasek records his first shutout of the season with a 2-0 whiteout of the Avalanche in Colorado. Hasek makes 24 saves and, playing well coming off his groin injury, has some people wondering if he will actually fulfill his promise to retire after the season.
