I love reading the emotional rollercoaster that some posters go through in a season.
in especially looking forward to the “time to trade Power” thread that someone will soon create. No doubt that we will age about as well as the trade Mitts, Thompson and Dahlin threads did

as for tonight, Leafs are a 4 man top heavy team with lots of problems among their defenders.

hopefully DG doesn’t anchor Cozens with a couple of AHL / NHL tweeners and we get something of a top 9 going

also would be good if DG reminds them that the game starts at 7pm!

Players should know what time the game starts. Don't need a coach for that

This was talked about dureing the Sportsnet broadcast of the game tonight that Buffalos attendance hasn't been good outside of the home opener

The thing is, attendance around the entire league is pretty bad in alot of areas, there were even rumblings that I saw about whether the Jets could relocate because they have had really bad attendance this year.

The cost of going to professional sports is ridiculous. I feel bad for Bills fans when new stadium opens.

Two more rookies in line up. Three rookies on the roster counting Savoie (on IR).  Many of the Rochester call ups will be young rookies too.

    Benson 18, Savoie 19, Power 20, Levi 21, JJP 21, Quinn 22, Krebs 22, Cozens 22, Dahlin 23, Samuelsson 23

Then consider Levi is the #1 goalie, Power is a 20+ minute player, Cozens is a 2C with PP and PK roles, and Dahlin/Samuelsson are the “ veteran” 1 pair.

Benson and Savoie could still end up back in juniors.

It’s a young team but nobody wants to hear development year when all the players, coaches, and the GM were saying playoffs is their  goal.

It will be January when we will know if Adams did enough in the off season and if DG can take the next step installing a better defensive system.

how many more development years left...will we ever not be the youngest team? There are a lot of vets on this team  that probably want to make the playoffs now.

    Missed this one.

Game 1.  Home opener of a highly anticipated season.  RJ memorial.  Playing a very good team that is well coached.

Often a 'trap game'.  It was.  I almost expecting a bit of a let down and that the Sabres would look flat.

All in all a good experience and they will be ready tomorrow.  All those same preasures will be on the Islanders.

The Sabres will be fine.  Finer than fine.

How is opening game a trap game? A letdown on 1st game of the season?

I guess my take away and based on preseason and going back to the last few games last season many will disagree since almost everyone pumps his tires, but Levy will not save us. Maybe in year two if we don’t break him this season throwing him to the wolves. Make no mistake despite what KA has said, this looks like a development year. Maybe they make the playoffs ? But had that been UPL in net this thread would have been dominated with UPL hate. I want Levy to be the guy but unless we do a 360 and learn some sort of defensive awareness its going to be tough on the tenders.

    another one?

  6. I like these......

The following three innovative rule changes will apply to CHL games, which will change the game and add an extra layer of excitement but not undermine credibility.

    - A team that caused a minor penalty will remain shorthanded even if the opposing team scores a goal, ensuring a full two minutes of power-play time.
    - A minor penalty will be served even if a goal is scored while a delayed penalty is pending.
    - If a shorthanded team scores, the minor penalty against will end.

why are you confident they wont move?

I wish we were building a great downtown hockey rink instead of the bills stadium. I think we will end up with only 1 pro team in next ten years. With the money sunk into stadium bills are not going anywhere. Buffalo cannot support two pro teams anymore. I would vote for sabres over bills. 50 games a year with playoffs. I am being optimist i know. Bills are maybe 10 games that we care about if they get a couple home playoff games.

Would you all rather have Bills or Sabres? I am definitely Sabres all the way

Been supporting 2 teams since 1970. Did ok with 3 teams when Braves were around and good. Not having an NFL team would negatively affect the area more than an NHL team.

Seems like a prelude to selling the Sabres.  No reason to dissolved PSE unless that's the goal.  And of the two teams, there's no chance in hell he's selling the Bills, which are uber-profitable, unlike the Sabres.  Although the timing seems odd since the Sabres should finally make their return to the post-season this year.

easier to sell a good team and get a better price

  9. His greatness shows even more today with the current state of NHL Broadcasts. 3 people in a conversation with very little play by play. Rob Ray mumbling about something when a goal is scored and Dunleavy jumping in with the exciting call of "Oh and it gets by". Nothing better than RJ calling a game on the radio.

But the a la cart is still $399 for the year.  If half the games are on regular/cable tv, why invest this much for 8 games ?   Saying it’s more cost effective to watch at a bar/restaurant.

I agree, it's not for everybody. I dropped directv last January. Too expensive. Switched to youtube tv and I like Sunday ticket and redzone. I got it at $289

For those living outside the 716, and former Direct Tv Sunday Ticket owners what are you doing?  As Taro notes above, the discount of $100 applies only if you sign up for YouTube tv @ $72/month.  I’m planning on keeping Direct Tv for a while.  My contract expires in August and I’m curious what options they have for me this year since I won’t get the Sunday Ticket for free (like I have for the last 17 years).  Having Prime, NFL network, local stations (NBC/Fox/CBS) and ESPN should allow me to view about half of the Bills games this year.  Thus making the YouTube option of $399 seem an excessive option at $50/game.  I mean I could go down to the local sports bar for breakfast on any games not televised nationally.  That might cost me on $25/game.  Rolling the die that other games are flexed or get televised.

You can get a standalone NFL Sunday Ticket subscription through YouTube Primetime Channels. The out-of-market package is available through YouTube’s à la carte Movies & TV hub—allowing you to sign up without a monthly YouTube TV subscription.

As much as cannot stand Eichel, Vegas winning the cup was zero about him. They had so many other pieces they would have won with or without him based on the way things went. Congrats to Eichel, he will be forever booed in Buffalo. We move on. We have an up and coming team (Which i still believe is too soft) but freaking stacked with young talent! We just move on. I think this team is not too far from being able to compete (With the exception of the lack of playoff physicality that doomed the Amerks) for a SC in the nearer future.

well if he will be forever booed then you're not moving on

The initial purchase of Sunday Ticket is $100 cheaper if you subscribe to the full YouTube package, but then you're on the hook for the monthly fee which was upwards of $70, roughly $900 per year extra.  Not a bargain unless you really want the full YouTube.  Since I have Direct TV (which I got in order to get NFL Sunday Ticket, but which I'm keeping at least for now because I love the DVR to let me not watch commercials) I didn't need the YouTube subscription.  Also my internet is flakier than the satellite dish, which always works unless there's a huge storm overhead.

you can purchase the Sunday Ticket without having youtube TV.

You Being out of the Buffalo area, out of the 4-5 preseason games, the 82 regular season games, and all the playoff games … how many Sabres games and playoffs are you able to watch? And how many are Buffalo broadcast crew? Dunleavy etc.

And on top of the streaming services, what do you pay a month for the internet?

One more thing. I live in Delaware  just outside of Philly. With Directv Center Ice all Sabre Flyer games were blacked out regardless of where played. With youtube I get all Philly sports channels so can finally watch them.

There may have been 1 or 2 games I didn't get to see . Youtube tv does not have NHL network so there was one game there I didn't see. All playoff games are on TNT, TBS and ESPN so I got all playoff games.  ESPN+ gives you options for both broadcasts. Unlike many here, I can't listen to Dunleavy and Ray so I always choose other but usually watch games on mute.

I have comcast internet for $75/month
