Damn right. If he keeps this up, I could see him as a great third-line centre, maybe with Zemgus and Foligno on his wings.
That sounds like a pretty impressive line, especially if we've (finally) got real 1st and 2nd lines ahead of them.
-
Why not give him another year? Yeah I know he can't be sent back to the AHL without clearing waivers, but are we really going to be that flush with forwards in the fall? I'd rather keep him on the squad than, say, a Matt Ellis. He's at least that good, and still has upside potential. I wouldn't be in a hurry to move him. If GMTM can pack him up as part of a trade to get a big upgrade, well yeah, do it, but I bet the Sabres hang onto him a bit longer.
-
Yeah, Larsson has been a revelation these last few games, eh?
-
No
Go away, Grumpy Cat.
-
I will say that Irbe seems to be squeezing a lot of water from those rocks.
Indeed. :worthy:
-
So. After watching the Coyotes I feel much better about the Sabres. Boy they're brutal.
-
Only if you whisper sweet nothings in my ear.

Sure!
"Leino..."

A decent night for the tank. The Sabres didn't embarrass themselves and still managed to put up a CHL point. The Eulers failed miserably. Now if only the Coyotes could give away a point....
Not likely though. Gawd they look awful.
-
How 'bout a reach around?
-
What? You sound skeptical.
-
It seems that with the tutelage of Irbe and getting regular playing time, Anders Lindback is holding the Sabres in a lot of games since he's come over. Does GMTM consider just keeping him on?
-
I thought that was a masterful tanking touch by Nolan to put the kid in there to tie the game.
See this is the genius of Nolan. Gets the 65 minute effort and then gives the extra point away in the shootout. (It has to be genius because no one could be that bad of a bench boss.)
-
I think they keep Grigorenko as depth. If Samson and McEichel are ready for the big show then he stews on the fourth line. But if he can play 2nd/3rd line it gives the Sabres the luxury of giving Reinhart and/or McEichel another year to develop... if needed.

So how much of this do you credit Ted Nolan with ? The guys playing smart hockey. For each other.
For the record I agree with your post. I'm seeing the same things. Frankly its been happening for a while without much results but the team truly seem to care. They play hard most nights. Haven't seen too many passengers. Perhaps we're beginning to witness the culture change TN and GMTM have talked about ?
I think we saw it in December too but then the injury bug disrupted things. I also think that Nolan has, at times, purposely manipulated lines an playing time to maximize the tank. I think that either Nolan is a buffoon who can't coach at all, or a mad genius who'll win us McEichel then catapult the team into the playoffs. The timetable on his contract is perfect (he's there through next season, right?) to give him a shot to show what he can do with some talented players.
On the other hand, if they can pry Babcock out of Detroit, they'll kick Nolan upstairs.
I can't really say what I believe (buffoon or genius) or which I prefer (Nolan or Babcock).
After this season.... just win, baby.

McEichel plus winning = the New AUD. Put whatever letters they want on the outside, we've only had 2 buildings the Old Aud and the current building. Win, create generational memories and it will be the New Aud to me, not sure if what I'm trying to imply is making sense , but when someone starts a sentence with ...The Old Aud....there is an almost instant generation team connect...
FNA: FIrst Niagara Auditorium THE F'N AUD, baby!

That shot Ennis took in OT was very Ovechkin like. Not a full backswing and using the D as a screen. Don't think I've ever seen him do that before.
Makes you wonder if we've seen the full extent of Ennis's upside, eh? When Vanek was the man and they tried to make him captain, there's no way he was ready for it. In contrast, I think Ennis is setting the tone in all kinds of the right ways. In general I'm finally seeing good team play out of the Sabres- not gimmicky in terms of picking fights to elevate the team; they're sticking up for each other, but they're playing a good, honest game with good support and good chemistry.
At the beginning of the season I thought it would be sad if we lost some of the old names - Stafford, Myers, etc. - I wanted to see them be part of the success of the team. But I'm not looking back. I like who we've got and who we have coming. The future's so bright, I have to wear shades :flirt:

Is it me or to do the Oilers and Leafs look littler than us?
4-0 Edmonton
GMTM is really super-sizing the Sabres.
-
not a win, but one h ell of a effort, nothing to be ashamed about tonight
Nearly a perfect tank game. I mean that in a good way: They played well but they didn't really give ground on the McEichel race.
-
3-0 Edmonton!
-
Eulers up 2-0, so we got that goin' for us.
teddy with hands in pockets, wonder which side is winning
Pocket pool ftw!

Has anyone noticed how much easier it is to get out of the defensive zone when you have a puck-moving goalie? I think Lindback might be signed in the off-season.
Okay boys, you proved your point. But you don't need this point, if ya know what I mean....
Well it's been a hard-fought game.

The more I listen to Gord Miller, Dave Strader and Kenny Albert, the more I realize how much I can't stand Doc Emrick.
Amen brother. I have no idea why people think Doc is any good.

And Perchatka, from downtown.
:flirt:

Lindback - good enough to start next season?
