  1. Not universally. West coast breweries were the 1st to use massive doses of hops like Cascades, Centennial, et al, but plenty (if not most) of the east coast breweries are using those same hops. Usually the east coast styles tend to be less dry, giving the impression of less bitterness.

And IMO as time marches on there are fewer and fewer taste distinctions one can make and classify as "east coast IPA" and "west coast IPA".

It'll end with the AleSmith and Cigar City brewmasters (pictured below) being caught in the crossfire of a tragic pale ale rivalry. So sad.

  2.

The West coast breweries are way out in front with the IPAs.

This reminded me of a blog entry I read about West Coast Vs American IPA. Not much substance in the main article but good discussion amongst the replies. Mainly:

"1) no caramel malts 2) unbalanced (really, no desire to be balanced), leaning heavily toward hops, both of these contributing to 3) a drier ipa than non-wcipas."

  3. I found this response to a Scotch article helpful:)

    1. All whiskey is bourbon, not the other way around. I know many of you will talk to me about history and facts and dates and such, but that is really just the part of the conspiracy. We invented both corn and corn squeezing here in Eddyville, KY. Thems the truth.

Though my bourbon friends here will vehemently disagree, the only whisky is scotch. Corns for eating, barley's for drinking.

Funny response, I especially enjoyed the temperature part.

As for MM, I think it's smooth already and lowering the proof would adversly change taste. But if what Weave says is true about JD and consumer survey failed to find a difference, I doubt I could tell either.

  4.

Nice lineup. What did you think of the Racer 5? If you enjoyed it , their Hop Rod Rye is just as good, maybe better. As others have said Lagunitas makes a damn fine IPA, I also like the IPA from Green Flash.

I enjoyed Racer 5. The finish isn't as smooth, is more abrupt than Two Hearted, so I'm inclined to go with the latter if I had to choose. However a very nice beer, fragrant hops, will definitely come back to it. Noted on the Hop Rod, thanks. Maximus is one of my favorite IIPAs so agree with the Lagunitas plug.

I was disappointed with Lucky U this time. It may have been that my palate was shot, really stretched last night, but it was less flavorful and higher carb than the others. Been awhile since I've had it but don't remember it as such.

  5. Nice, its a toss up between the Two Hearted and Bear Republic's Racer 5 as my favorite IPA.

I've never had Racer 5. Me thinks a trip to the beer store is in order.

EDIT: Thanks for the rec, I've had two hearted before so will compare those. Here's tonight's linuep:

  6. Bale looks and plays like a Rooney/Ronaldo hybrid., IMO. 2 goals today.

Aaron Lennon's sole purpose in life - running down blind alleys? Zero eye for goal today.

Clint Dempsey might be the greatest American to play this game.

Agreed in all fronts here. Very disappointed in Lennon, hasn't always played down. But may be the system, under Harry he was more productive.

Clint is great. Took awhile for him to find his place. Thank you Fulham

  7. I believe he was snached up by Barca when he was 13 and made his debut with the big club at 19, but I may have that all wrong.

    I've been wrong before, eh.

Did you read his story in ESPN mag? If not, it's a great read. He wasn't getting anywhere with the Argentina youth squads and his family couldn't afford his meds. Barca, on the other hand, paid for everything and he moved to Spain with his dad I think. The rest is history.....

  8. Messi is probably on drugs. Best, Maradona, Pele. Coppi, Contador: all drug users. Note in the annals of history that Lance Armstrong needed a European doctor. Project Messi must be still be on drugs, because he is just too good. He's in Lance mode.

He has been all his life, though its for hormonal imbalance leading to stunted growth. He was nothing until he got into the Barca system. Simply amazing.

  9.

He was from Columbia. Chances are, he was going to end up murdered, anyway.

It was a really sad story. Through no fault of their own the Columbian team were hooked by Pablo's cartel. They played with outright fear. It that case the OG probably cost him his life.

OGs happen all the time tho, heck Walters had 2 in the same game for Stoke a couple weeks back. I guess the moral of the story is don't score on yourself when your teams affiliated with a drug cartel.

  10. Bob loved football ...

He would have been 68 years old today. It's been over 30 years since he died ... only the good die young.

    Also ...

    http://www.cbc.ca/sp...tch-fixing.html

Bob is missed, no doubt. I saw the match fixing report, just depressing....

It's a lesson for other coaches. If the goalkeeper lets one in late in the game, blame the timekeeper. It will make matters worse for you when Bale signs for United. ;) Just kidding. Bale really starting to dominate. How do you like him.

My favorite player, despite the incessant diving. Was talking with a friend about him playing lone striker. I'm all for it in lieu of Defoe's injuries.

  11. He really does. He always blames the officials, or anything, but I've never seen him publicly blame a player. He always protects the players on his team from criticism, and himself from criticism.

I try to not pay attention to his whining, but in the last couple months he's had it out for Tottenham so I can't help it. He bitched about not enough injury time in their loss to the Spurs, and a few weeks ago accused the Spurs of manipulating the system in their signing of Zeki Fryers.

  12. I know it.

Sir Alex has to wait to buy washed up players on the cheap, like Van Persie, or snap them up before anyone notices their talent, like Ronaldo or Rooney.

I completely respect his managerial prowess, even if he's afforded the many luxuries that come with a perennial powerhouse like MU. But he's such a douche. I've never heard anyone cry as much as that guy. Every week he moans about something.

  13. Hopefully I'll get a quiet evening sometime soon so I can open it up and pour a glass.

You and me both my friend. I'm trying to make Friday night my standing whisky night. Kids to bed, dram poured, hockey on.

A friend of mine wanted my advice on a nice bottle of single malt for a bachelor party gift. It gave me a chance to play with someone elses $, felt like filling out a Santa list. Here's what I came up with:

    -Talisker 25

    -Macallan Estate Reserve

    -Highland Park 1991 Cask

    -Glenrothes 25

-If he can get it, Port Ellen
