  1. OK, first review of Live is in. Poured into a McGregor's style mug. Hazy golden-orange in color. End of pour had yeast dregs in it. Looking at the glass from above the beer had an oily look to it. And carbonation is mild. Tangerine and blood orange with a little sweet grain on the nose. Initial hit on the palate is sweet and very full bodied. The hops kick in quickly with an assault of citrus flavors. Pineapple and tangerine. a good strong, but mellow bitterness dominates the finish. I don't know what hops they are using but the bitterness is not at all harsh ala their IPA. It is more of a rounded, softer bitterness. The finish is long and dry. What I am trying to understand is how they manage a sweet profile on the tongue and get a dry finish. Very well done American pale ale. This is an easy one to keep pouring. I wish I had a 2nd bottle.

I agree, you are a poet. Excited to try Live.

As for me, it's a little bit of a blur and my palate went to the birds with mass consumption. Started off with Hoptical Illusion, then changed up to Cigar City Patio Tools Dry Stout. Finished with Sweetwater 420. Then, thought it would be a good idea to get 5 for home - Blue Point Toxic Sludge Black IPA, Red Brick Hoplanta, Acme California, Great Divide Titan, and a Sculpin.

In a haze had a Sam Adams Belgian Session and Porch Rocker that the wife bought for Easter.

Again, hazy on the reviews but I Patio Tools is too light for the cigar finish. If it was bolder, I'd be a fan. Toxic Sludge was bitter and confusing. I loved Acme, first time I had it. I need to start writing things down.

  2. Croatia beat Serbia in WC 2014 qualifying. That's good, I guess.

    http://www.tsn.ca/so...tory/?id=418838

The Serbs were barred from attending the match in Zagreb to prevent stupidity. They should have barred the Croatians too. With hateful Nationalistic chants coming from the hot heads in attendance ... shameful. "Kill, kill the Serbs" chants do not belong at a football match, or anywhere. Just plain nuts!!

Croatia should be banned from the WC and other international play, until they can act like civilized people.

Man, it's going to get ugly over there, AGAIN!!

It still amazes me the level of outward racism in Euro and African football. It seems as if we are more capable of separating game from societal/political conflict. Then again, we've had less bloodshed on our soil and we're a younger, more diverse country.

  3. Of course by now everyone knows the myth of Canadian beer being stronger has been debunked (abw vs. abv), but this is still a fun little ditty from our Canadian friends.

    Funny.

I always thought Molson Export (an old friend) was stronger than our domestics, but only by a hair. I think their Boneshaker is around 7% so we probably have them in crafts but I know little about Canadian IPAs.

Which brings us to our next discussion, what have you tried from up north? Alexander Keith's doesn't count.

  4. It doesnt matter which league it is. There is no difference in the rules no matter if friendly in the 4th league or world cup final. It's a dangerous play and according to the rules than can result in a red card. The intent (or not intent) doesnt matter at all. If Lopes should have gotten red is a different story. And of course the dutch guy back then should have gotten a red card for sure.

Nani's play was dangerous and he hit him right in the chest/stomach area. That's according to the rules a red card. And thank god it is.

It does matter what league it is. The CL and WC are usually called more conservative than house because of clashing playing styles, different refs, and whats on the line. Mourinho even acknowledged that Nani could have gotten a yellow. They got the same call with Pepe in the CL.

The rule isn't hitting the player, it's significantly risking his safety if you hit him. Watch it again, he didn't hit him right in the chest/stomach, he got his arm and glanced off his side. And plenty of theatrics by Arbeloa (and Nani), I might add.

Agree to disagree on this one.

Here's Lopez punching Vidic. It's not a different story, if they call one they need to call both.

  5. In germany we had 3 plays like that this year(red card on every play). You cant have the leg up there. Doesnt matter if you dont see him. If you have the leg up there and you hit the guy -> Red card.

You took the risk to possibly injure someone. Could have hit his face. That happened before. He didnt see him but you are responsible for what you do.

I know it's tough because in the past this was not a red card. I can understand why the ref gave him the red, and I am actually happy they do this these days. Could still have injured rips/lunge, splenic...

I got hit myself when I played on a similar play. Wasn't much fun :D He barely touched my chin but at first I thought... "OMG my beautiful face" hahaI

Absolutely disagree. First, there wasn't intent, Nani was playing the ball as was Arbeloa. If he was trying to kick Arbeloa, then maybe but I remember a straight kick to the chest in the WC 2010 (Dutch?) that was issued a yellow. This was very tame compared to that. Second, If that's a red then Real's keep Lopez should have gotten one for contacting Vidic on the corner. Third, this ref has a history of hard lining EPL players (Gerrard, Mario, Cahill). Fourth, this isn't the Bundesliga, or the EPL , or any other league for that matter. It's the top stage in one of the biggest games ever.

The decision has to be airtight (especially in wake of the recent scandal), and it's far from it.

I'm not a Man U apologist, as I said I hate em. But that shouldn't have been a red.

  6.

Yeah, had that at brunch the other day. OK, but not spectacular. Bought a 6-pack of 21st Amendment Saison cans. I like it, but I've been drinking it while doing other things so I haven't put too much thought into it.

Sadly, I think I have to go on a beer hiatus for the next couple weeks unless someone knows some good Thai beer.

I know nothing about Thai beer but it sounds like there are choices:

  7. I'm on the job loss watch again. Nothing for certain, but with this budget sequestration deadline approaching I arrived at work yesterday to find out that the majority of folks on gov't projects have been transferred to non-gov't projects. We now have too many people on my project and not enough work for all of us. We've been told "everyone's job is safe, for now".

In my interview I asked about how budget sequestration may affect things here. they were very upfront about new employees would be adversly affected. None of this is a surprise.

Nonetheless..... Feck me. I thought I got past this.

Sucks dude. Hoping the best for ya, Nice beer, good hockey, get your mind off it.

  8. Makers Mark posted a pic on their facebook page of a label that says 45%ABV and a caption reading, "you spoke, we listened".

Looks like public pressure resulted in a quick change back to 90 proof.

Buy a bottle in support of the change.

OK, but only because you told me to.......

  9. A new "Beer Bar" just opened up here, called The Brass Tap. It's the first franchise of 3 locations down in Tampa. 60 on tap and 200 on bottle. INSANE!!!!

Drank a Lost Coast Indica IPA, hoppy but the body is lighter. Also did a Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye, at Claude's suggestion. Nutty, flirts with you on bitterness but ends up really smooth. Thats a damn fine beer. Too bad I have to drive home, would like to hit a few more of those.

  10. Welcome to the SabreSpace Soccer Subforum, where you'll get all your Champions League Post-Game reports for Man. United!

The first goal was scored by Danny Welbeck! 1-0, Manchester!

Ten minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo, with a towering header!

Score level, game ends 1-1, Real Madrid, vs Man. United!

Both teams head to Old Trafford for a re-match.

A pretty good match, should be off the hook at Old Trafford. We're entering the best time of year for football.

  11.

Her father. We're still in that stage of shock since we just found out monday. None of us have any clue where to go with all the planning now. Do you postpone, do you move it up, do you not change a thing? I don't think there is a right answer here, but the whole thing is just going to be very difficult with that cloud hovering over us.

And in terms of this board, I have no clue what is going on in the NHL. I love the game, but at this point I don't have the time or the energy to keep up with whatever the "let's argue about this" topic of the day is.

Thoughts are with you and your family. No right answer to this, just what's right for those involved. I hope the process is smooth and that you have a wonderful wedding day regardless of the choice.
