Without the use of fancy stats I will go out on a limb to say it helps your goalie, especially when the opponent has him moving from side to side.   After that it comes down to who gets to the loose puck, that seems to be critical because the goalie can hold it and stop play.

Winning puck battles and gaining possession is what we need to be better at.

I might add they need to be better at boxing out the opposition so our goalies can actually see the shots and make the save.

That would be another LBI designation.

He would get diaper rash, which would turn into an infection that would result in a debate for a controversial skin grafting procedure where Muel would want one treatment vs. the team wanting another.  They trade him to Vegas, he gets his chosen procedure, proceeds to win a Stanley cup while playing every game healthy.

I actually think some of his moves have been pretty good. The Mitts for Bryam deal, at the moment, looks pretty good. The issue with Adams is not the moves that he makes, is the moves that he DOESN'T make.

A lot of people on this forum say hes so bad they don't want him making any moves. I totally disagree.  Make moves, please make them. If he's bad as a GM, its because he doesn't do enough.

BUT…..maybe he should NOT negotiate any new contracts….he really $hit himself with the long term deals.

Neither due to the roster Adams assembled

And assistant coaching staff (being the same)….I can’t assess Ruff vs. Granato unless I knew for a fact that Ruff would have hired these same guys had he had 100% autonomy to do so (which I don’t believe he did).

Do you think that’s something this team would actually do?

Under this ownership and management…..NEVER!  To them, it’s all about having a tight room of guys who love each other (so to speak)….but when the chips are down, they run and hide vs. confront.  As far as inside the locker room, I’d rather have some tension within the team to make them uncomfortable with each other for a change.  Getting along ain’t working, so get some alpha males who will get into fellow teammate faces and challenge them to be better.

  6. Not a lot of playing time to assess.  Malenstyn’s injury shook up what was already a shorter forward group (11-7 lineup that went down to just 10).  Seemed like Rosen was kind of the odd man out as the game wore on.  Hopefully there will be a larger sample size against the Preds.

I'll admit I do not like analytics all that much. There is value to it, but to me it just takes a truth you already know (or should know) and breaks it down to smaller parts.  Personally, i'm good with basic stats like Plus-minus, goals, assists, add to that the eye test and use a little common sense and you are 75% of the way there.

The analytics, I DO like the goals for and goals against. To me its kinda like taking the expected goals for and against that a lot of people like, but not disregarding shooting percentage.

I'll say something that I have said before and I KNOW that poeple will disagree with me.  It has to be coming from above, Adams or Pegula (I personally think more Pegula, but it could be either) that is overriding the analytics.  Its something like this...Analytics dept: "Look Cozens is causing more harm than good. His goals against are bad. In every aspect we can measure his game, the team is better with him off the ice than with him on"....then....Pegula and/or Adams: "Great, I dont' care thoughI like Cozens so keep on playing him, I make the decisions/pay the bills".

There are two things that, in the limited view of the deeper analytics I have seen for sure: Almost EVERYONE has better numbers when Dahlin is on the ice with them....and almost  EVERYONE has worse numbers when Cozens is on the ice with them.

I am a dinosaur, so I agree with your sentiment about analytics.  I still rely on my eyes more than pure data to assess a player.  Maybe a dumb question, but are there analytics that reflect a player’s “toughness” so to speak in terms of playing physical, aggressive, abrasive, etc.?

Makes one wonder about the value of our analytics department.  Are they not doing their jobs or just not being listened to?  Cap space, especially on a team with an internal cap, has value.  Remove Cozens, Quinn, Samuelsson, and Joker from our line-up and that's over $15 million in cap space (more next season, with whatever raise Quinn will get).

Maybe a consolation prize of sorts is that Quinn’s next contract price should not break the bank, based on his so-so season.  I would still bridge deal him at a team friendly price, but no issue with removing Cozens, Muel and Joker (who will leave anyway).
