I really thought at least a split of those two games was necessary/reasonable. I never expected an immediate turnaround, but they were AWFUL in those games and I'm struggling to find anything to be encouraged by. Really deflating.

Two goals in two games against a team missing two of their best defensemen. I'm sorry, that is unexcusable.

There were a couple of months during the 2022/23 season that our power play was among the best in the league. With largely the same guys we have now, minus Skinner. I don't understand how they can't even find a way to even approach competence now

Sadly, it is. Rarely can a coach just flip a switch and change years of bad habits and loser mentality. Of course being 14 years on, patience is justifiably in short supply. I had my doubts about being back Lindy and these two games are certainly doing nothing to sway me, but I do get that there's a hill to climb.

Remember the last, oh, two months of the 2022/23 season when the Sabres were winning a lot, playing good hockey, and actually looked like a young team beginning to realize their potential? Since then, well...

I don't think talent is the issue. We've seen what some of these guys are capable of. They lack hockey sense/IQ in my opinion. I'm not sure the roster is well constructed. And they've played without any real concept of accountability for years. Can Lindy fix that? I don't know

Yeah, they were decent in the third, but it was a very low bar. Not feeling very optimistic if they trot Markstrom out again. NJ went out and got an elite goalie because theirs sucked. That's what real hockey teams do.

Well that was disappointing. Not unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. On to the next one.
