Just caught and released a mouse that somehow got into the house.  This is the second one in about 2, or 3, weeks.  Can't figure out where they are getting in.  The house seems very secure, but I know they don't need much.

I love all of Allah's creation, but some just don't belong in the house.

One of these days I'm gonna have to buy me a mouse trap, or better yet get a cat.  It's been a pretty long time since Jake passed, so it's time.

Today I learned, thanks to your user name, that Nova Scotia is Latin for New Scotland. Everybody probably knew this, but I think the pronunciation threw me for 47 years.

Do you think the Sabres were going to fool other teams on Eichels medical situation?  You can't trade a guy then later disclose that surgery is needed.  Any team trading for him needs to have access to his medical records.

I think it’s more just me coming to grips with the fact that Jacks value is probably lower than I thought. I thought the surgery demands were posturing.

The issue isn't going to be so much how good the Pegulas are at negotiating as it is how good are the public authorities in negotiating and protecting the public interests.

That’s exactly it, and Marge Schott and Mike Brown of all people used the threat of a franchise move to coerce the citizens of Hamilton County into the worst stadium financing deal in the history of North American professional sports. And we only have ourselves to blame, because that tax hike was passed by a public referendum.

  4. We’re still paying .5% more in sales tax 21 years later for Paul Brown Stadium. And the proposed property tax rebates never happened because of decreases in sales tax revenue due to recessions and online shopping. Also, because the county owns and operates the stadium maintenance and any needed upgrades come from the general fund. Same goes for Great American Ballpark. I just hope that Erie County makes a better deal than Hamilton county did in 1996.

I could be wrong but we’re well beyond those type of returns. It will be substantially less than KAs ask.

Yes. I was just thinking that if I was in Bill Guerin’s shoes that I’m not sure that I would trade Rossi for Eichel straight up. Rossi, AFAIK, doesn’t need back surgery. That PR blitz from team Eichel on Friday that made it clear that surgery is necessary really screwed the Sabres over.

That's a new wrinkle. When did this tidbit come out?

There have been rumours of that on other boards. I mean, it would be understandable if he had a problem with pain killers given his back/neck issues. But it has been rumoured that he picked up other bad habits from Kane and Bogo. It’s all just rumours, but if I’m hearing it in message boards then other GMs are hearing it too.

I have not read the 200+ posts here, and this is my first time speaking about this issue, but I just want to say that I think this Eichel situation is absurd. How in heaven's name can the Sabres possibly expect to get full value for a player whose health is in question?? (To be fair, I am not sure Adams is under any delusion about this.) And as the poster here says it, what team would make this trade for Eichel?? (Again, given the lack of movement, I am not sure that any other teams are under any delusion about this either.). No wonder no trade has happened.

The Sabres and Eichel have only one path forward in the immediate future--together. For now, at least, they are stuck with each other. They should sit down in a room and accept that fact, and ask--how can we move forward for now? Answer-- (1) let's come to an agreement on the medical procedure; (2) let's get Jack to full health; (3) let's get him on the ice producing at his near MVP clip, (4) then and only then, if we still want to part ways, we discuss it then. Who knows, maybe there is a shift in attitudes and Jack wants to stick around; otherwise, this is ludicrous.

    Am I wrong about this?

I would have agreed with you last week, but this became impossible when Jack’s agent went in that PR blitz on Friday. In order for Jack to play for the Buffalo Sabres, after all that has been said in the past few days, either TP has to fire GMKA in the middle of a rebuild or Jack has to fire his agent. Neither of those things are going to happen. I really don’t see any other outcome than trading him for a pick, a b prospect and a bad contract.

It’s incredible that Jack wants to get traded from the Sabres where he is guaranteed to make $50M. We are on the hook to pay Jeff roughly the same amount, yet we hear not a peep from him.

Skinner would demand a trade if he thought there was a team willing to take on that contract. Instead, he sits back counting his fat stacks of cash.

  9. I’m starting to regret bringing up Housley as a player amongst fellow fans. There really is a huge gulf between “one of the best players ever to pull on the Sabres sweater” and “hit em with your purse Phyllis.” But I think that we can all agree that he sucked as a coach.

Pretty much, Buffalo fans are suckers for plucky groups punching above their weight class on a nightly basis. I’ll always feel that given obvious effort and hard work that we’d support even a 20 win team because they’d still be entertaining and fighting.

Most of our recent teams always have a combination of underachieving vets and mediocre middle 6 guys. It’s why Cozens was able to woo 3/4th the fan base through merely skating hard and looking like he gave a damn.

one problem with Eichel was although I’ll never doubt his effort; his skating style makes him appear slow and plodding more often than not. Even though we know he’s a fast skater.

And we also hate any D that don’t hit. Housley’s in the HOF, but he was HATED as a player here.

I buy him from the perspective of not wanting Okposo deals handcuffing him and I even understand the “blocking” argument.

But he is in a position to eat money this year and probably next as well. He has the space and he says he has the budget. He can take on Rask easily. He can take on Fiala. Flip him for more futures if he doesn’t want him long-term. I don’t know if the CBA lets him retain on Jack for say two years only, but that is within his means as well.

If it means a fair return, it will be money well spent.

I would think that paying a player that is not on your roster would be an ownership-level decision.

Again, I'm not discussing, at all, if the contract is good or not. If it was 6x5, or it could have been 6x1, and that still wouldn't be what I'm discussing.

I’m not looking to argue here. I think we agree.  On the front page of this website, there is an article that states that Ullmark’s ask from the Sabres was 6x6. If that’s true, and the other info that the hang up was term, then KA offered him 2x6. That’s reasonable. 6x6 would be a huge overpay that would become an unmovable contract in 2 years.

I wouldn't pay Ullmark that, but that's not what I'm discussing in the quote I took from SDS. Adams explanation is simply the term, not the cost, and only because it affects UPL/other goalies potential playing time years down the line, not because of Ullmark's injury history.

Then we agree. He got 4x5 from Boston. If he came to the sabres and said “gimme 6x5 and I’ll stay,” KA has to say no. In a league with guaranteed contracts and a hard cap, the contracts are as important as the players. We already have the Skinner and Okposo untradable contracts hanging around our necks like lead weights. We cannot afford to add another bad contract to our books when, if this all works out, we’ll have a lot of young players to pay in a few years. We all know this, but we just can’t stand the losing anymore. I know I can’t. But I’m lucky in that I can just tune it all out because the NHL might as well not exist here in Cincinnati.

I'm not sure how two extra years does that to UPL. Just bench Ullmark. Or if you're that upset about potential playing time for an extremely unproven goalie prospect 4 freaking years from now, trade Ullmark when the time comes.

That is an insane reason to not sign him. Honestly I don't believe it.

I actually think that it was a good move. It’s not like we’re talking about Vasilevsky here. Ullmark is an average NHL goalie with an injury history. He probably wanted 6x5.5. That’s an overpay and a contract that’s hard to move. We’ll have to overpay players to play here when we are trying to win again, but not now. Their plan has to be UPL winning the job out of camp and Anderson mentoring him.

Other side I would tell teams is look, in 11 months he might not want to come to your team no matter what you offer because he might only want to play in say Boston. So pressures on you.

I got this theory that a team like Minnesota is reluctant to give up major assets for Jack because they fear that he'll pull this same thing in a few months, but this time with a full NMC so he can force his way to Boston.
