It's a MINORITY interest so it's no big deal.

It could very well be a long term plan for an eventual "retirement" and sale way down the road. Potential to sell controlling interest or all interest down the road to the minority buyer and/or their associated group(s) at that time. But that could be like 10 or 20 years down the road.

He could live another 15-20 years.

He’s over 70.  He also may not have many more years and really - I mean what happens with the teams if something were to happen to him say in the next 3-5 years?

  2. I’d be slightly worried about Cozens if not for the entire team offense disappearing this year and everyone stunk.

It just stinks of a team that made excuses and quit on its coach.

Why did they make excuses?  Because they felt the pressure and heard the outside noise.

This means they are embracing that it’s been 13 years despite what Okposo said.

So the optimist in me will just say at least they care.  Now they need to find out who the leader behind the bench will be and the leaders on the ice.

    My votes:

HC:  Peca (I know; it sounds like Gallant.). But I’m hiring Peca if it’s me.

    Captain: Dahlin

    A: Tage

    A: Tuch

  3. I’ve been taking this in all day.

    What a ****ing disaster.

Even if this is true - YOU DON’T SAY IT OUT LOUD!!!

Omg!  This frigging team.  Burn down the analytics department.  Revamp all of it.

I was of the belief Tage, Tuch, and Dahlin were better than this leadership wise.  Especially the latter two.

The ONLY explanation I have - the only one is that Skinner and his coasting and his salary just completely screws this team’s chemistry.

How can you sit Cozens or Dahlin (who the heck exactly did Tage think needed to be sat?????) for doing things wrong or not working hard enough when Skinner not only repeatedly is at fault for what these guys are saying today but he’s paid 9 million dollars a season for it!

Get him out of here yesterday.  Get 5 new players on this team identify what the data cannot - and that’s who are the freaking losers with loser mentality and get them out.

My guess is that list is probably one guy.

After reading the accounting here of the press conference, my emotions seem different than most.  I’m pissed, frankly.

KA saw what we all saw.  Just acknowledged that he knew it was all wrong.  Knew the practices were wrong.  Knew coming out of camp was wrong.  Knew that the bottom 6 wasn’t heavy enough.  Knew that the players heads weren’t where they needed to be.  And he let it all fester for the whole ***** season.

Hands on GM, my ass.  You are complicit.  Get the ***** out of here.  You are over your head.

This is probably all right.  And odds of this ending with Adams losing his job in April of 2025 probably are higher than making the playoffs.

This is why I didn’t really think I wanted Donnie fired at this point.  It’s a sign the GM may not actually have his finger on the pulse but hopefully it was more Pegula saying just wait till the end of the year DG deserves at least that.

I am not happy with Adams. He did not do enough. I will give him credit for being pretty straight forward here and finally after months of bs saying the truth. The team isn't gritty enough, they aren't physical enough, they didn't handle it well, and it wasn't good enough. I didn't think Adams would say it to be honest. I will see how the coaching search goes.

I think their reaction to the boos in December cemented it for him - if anything sent off massive red flags.

Was there any moment that said “we’re too comfortable” then this?

  6. Least of my concerns is the on ice developments.

Everyone under Granato has improved and developed.  Careers were saved - Dahlin and Thompson and now UPL. Benson had a fine year under Granato as an 18 year old.

We deliberately focused on trying to be more responsible defensively and I do think overall we were.

But it cost us offense.  Maybe they were good with that.  I think you have to be much better on faceoffs to be significantly better defensively.  Helps in the O zone but especially in your own.  We suck at face offs.  The PP sucked that was one reason why.  Major reason.

I think Clifton got better as the year went on.  And it’s not Granatos fault outside of him and Dahlin no one wants to hit and Samuelson is made of glass.

You want a hard team to play against you can’t build that team with 18-23 year olds still finding their way.

    The biggest issue:

Granato at start of games - team isn’t always ready.  And terrible in game adjustments.

The captain was a loser that clearly let the pouting over the fan reaction persist.  Unacceptable.  Tuch disappointing on that front to.  It’s no wonder Tage and Dylan said we let outside noise get to us - that’s what they meant.  Was there way of saying “we messed that up.”

Granato has done an overall admirable job but it isn’t good enough.  I just don’t care either way bc apparently you just fire coaches whenever so who cares if he starts the season.  Just fire him if we start 3-8.

The collective mental toughness is a problem - only if it’s the result of the players failing to rise up to the moment of winning a game in February you have to have.  But if it’s just too much youth and lack of physical toughness bc they’re young and don’t deadlift we can fix that.

If it’s the former then that’s coaching, and lack of respected leadership.

I think you can keep Donnie if this team had legit alphas as Captain and 3rd and 4th lines that change games and take pressure off the top 6.

Need a new 3rd line C.  And a new 4th line.  And one tough d man.

Let Granato work with a better constructed and older roster and I’m ok with that.  But his leash is short.  Let’s see what everyone is made of.

  7. Awesome to see teams like Detroit salvage their season by winning in 3 on 3 OT games.

    True measure of team greatness.

    Washington demolishes Boston in regulation.

Detroit needs 3 on 3 OT to still have a chance.

In case you can’t tell I hate Detroit and I absolutely hate this league’s points format.

Yeah, so I tried that with Google Gemini, here is the result:

    Prompt:

Can you scan the top 20 posts in this forum and come up with a recommendation of what the Buffalo Sabres should do in the off season based on the comments of the posters? https://www.sabrespace.com/community/forum/1-the-aud-club/

    Response:

Unfortunately, I couldn't get insights directly from the forum because the content is not relevant to the query.

But based on my search, here's what some hockey news articles say about the Buffalo Sabres offseason plans:

    • The Sabres are expected to have a big offseason with significant cap space to improve the roster.
    • Some potential targets include free agents like Jake Guentzel, Sam Reinhart, Elias Lindholm and top defensemen like Brett Pesce.
    • There's also a focus on re-signing some of their own players like Kyle Okposo and Zemgus Girgensons who add leadership and defensive presence.

Overall, it seems like the Buffalo Sabres are looking to take a step forward next season and are actively looking to improve the team through free agency and potentially trades.

Good to know Skynet isn’t fully self aware yet.

Why do you blame the city?   Buffalo has been a great hockey town in the past (long past) and players have enjoyed playing in Buffalo and living in Buffalo.  That was when they had good ownership.

Buffalo is not the problem, but being a small city and having very bad winter weather is going to work against attracting  modern players, I get that.  But there are plenty of players that prefer small cities and that come from winter climates.  Winning is all it takes. Commitment to win and run a classy organization.

It starts at the top and the Sabres ownership has been below par since the Knox Family sold the team.  Even when the Rigas and Golisano teams found success on the ice, they also had issues with they way things we managed.

It is not the city that is the problem.  It is 100% Terry.

    Yes it’s mostly Terry.

Been thinking about this a lot the last few days.  Why is Terry running this team so badly how can we keep getting it so wrong?  I wonder if Inside the NHL executives and teams looked at and treated us in ways Terry wasn’t expecting post tank bc it was so blatant what we did.  Massively frowned upon more than we know.  We didn’t win the lotto and they have changed the lotto odds and the rules mostly bc of what we did.

It’s not so much to me that we can’t win.  Players choosing Florida over Buffalo - shocker.  No excuse for the things we can control tho.  It’s how we are run.  Like the owner does not care.  At all.  He seems bitter and resentful based on how this franchise does its business and I don’t get it.  Something isn’t right.

“We want players who want to be here” was a thinly veiled shot at Jack Eichel. That’s it - that was its origin. It was merely a headline. A narrative.

I think it was a combination ROR and others.  Why did ROR want out of here?

The Pegula’s.  He knew they had no clue how to build a team.  He accepted a trade here thinking this was a new up and coming team - I’m not sure why we had one prospect - Jack.  Maybe Sam at the time.

Saw how bad it was and wanted out.

Every team wants guys who don’t actively want to be somewhere else. This doesn’t present the Sabres with a legitimate obstacle to making the playoffs in a league where half the teams make it: we only need to achieve mediocrity. Most players don’t have a NMC. We missed by 1 point last year with THAT owner AND the “no one wants buffalo” stigma. We can absolutely make it with competence. To think otherwise would be absurd: it was one point. A competent GM can bridge that gap.

If we can field a winner, if we can get competent GM work, once we finally make the playoffs we’ll actually see some real culture change. Build it and they will come. Or, least, more will come. They have to sell-out to winning in the now, because THAT’S actually the building block for more wins in the future.

It’s all accurate.  Like I said - both Pegula running the show, and the city - two biggest problems we have.  The owner a much bigger problem.  I’ll excuse that I’m sure these guys don’t have how badly they’ll get taxed as maybe even a top 2 or 3 reason they’ll avoid a team.  I’m sure it doesn’t help tho.

Every year for Buffalo teams should be URGENCY to win.  We spent 3 years losing on purpose and Terry hasn’t found a way to fully recover from that.

But I think we are close.  KA has to convince guys with NMC or NTC to come here.

That to me has got to be near impossible right now given all the toxicity of the Pegula era over multiple GMs and Coaches - I’ll refer right back to ROR.  And then Jack and Sam leaving and instantly finding greater success.  2 Cups.  One a Cup appearance.  The players in this league know.

The reputation of the Pegula Sabres is ATROCIOUS.

  11. Don’t care either way - but yes they should be fired.  Then, per 2024 NHL rules, when we start 2-8, does new guy get fired?  What’s the rules?  People getting fired left and right the Rangers are winning the Cup anyway - btw I said after opening night loss to the Rags we just lost to the best team in the NHL.   That team looks different.

    We have bigger problems.

    1. Terry Pegula as de facto Team President

    2. The city of Buffalo is not a place the players we need want to relocate their families to.

We can overcome one of those two.  Not both.

Too many heads in the sand over number 2.

“We want guys that want to be here” is a mantra that’s born out of necessity.  Thus the build from within that’s beyond to the extreme right now.

But like I said.  You can overcome one of those not both.

Sabres fans don’t have room to laugh at any fanbase in any sport

Not even when Toronto gets eliminated in round 1?  Can I laugh then or keep it in bc they’re relevant thanks to being “lucky” to win the Matthews lotto due to their stealth tank the last 25 games of that season.

Yes.  I think I can.  And I will.  My team has had more playoff success the last 20 years than the Leafs.
