I don’t think anyone has denied that TM brought in the worst possible personalities to pair with our tankfruit. The idea was sound (and we really need to do the same this offseason), but the selection of people was very regrettable.

I have friends who still romanticize over Murray's time here.

This reinforces what I think Robin Lehner asked about why some of his younger teammates were not listening to Gionta.  Gionta was a definite contributor to a Cup winner, yet he was not being followed.  It looks like he was clearly pointing the finger at Reinhart and Eichel -- and probably Bogosian and Kane.

As I look back at this dreadful decade, I wonder if I underrate how bad the Winnipeg trade was for us.

The Winnipeg trade will never get enough credit for brining two terrible role models here at a huge cost. Might be even worse than the Fasching trade, and Murray's worst overall.

Over the top.  Over sell IMO.  I almost stopped listening.  Lots of fake outrage.  But I don’t doubt that these guys have inner knowledge that we couldn’t ever have.

Regardless, It definitely reaffirmed my thought that he was not the right guy personality-wise to build a team around.

I was there a bit too, especially when hours before the game:

Then one interview, and the script flips.

I will say, I do believe Jack built up some angst in Buffalo former players and guys on the inside that's no longer going to be held back because he's the captain here.

    All true...but can't forget:

ROR trade, which materialized weeks after the player admitted he'd lost his love of the game losing so much.  And of course, there's a financial element...he was due a 7M bonus the day before he was dealt.

The Pegula's even went so far as to blame the NHL for their recommendations on GM candidates. Sure...as if the Pegula's were innocent bystanders and didn't know anything until it was too late that Botterill wasn't good.

The Pegula's openly admit that their lifestyle is important, going so far as to document it on a slide presentation to employees after firing so many from the front office.  I get they lost money during COVID, but so did every other NHL team.  Removing so many people was eye-opening around the NHL.

I forgot they blacklisted basically all of hockey canada too, but yeah, that's a thing.

I feel real comfortable in saying Jack didn't fully appreciate the commitment Terry made to him when he was 20, well before he was worth 80 million, but also that Terry and Kim are vindictive idiots, rich enough to never have to directly face the consequences of their stupidity.

Why is saying "no" not just a rational decision?

    It wasn't 'rational' if

Sure, his relationship with Eichel might have biased his position on ADR,

This would make it petty. That's my perceived problem. It being petty.

I imagine this story will come out eventually, which sucks, because it'll be a distraction. Hopefully a short one.

Why is virtually everyone on this board assuming the worst of the Pegulas with Eichel?  I know the Pegula era started off with the misbegotten tank and we are living with the worst case scenario, but are they as malicious, petty, and hot-tempered as people here think?  If so, what evidence do you have that is from a disinterested party?  Hockey talking heads don't count because they have a clear interest to curry favour with players and agents.

There's no need to assume. We have tangible evidence.

Between Lafontaine's departure/blacklisting, Botterill's hiring/firing, and now Eichel's disgruntled soap opera, it's pretty clear they're well-meaning, extremely rich idiots who have enough money to never have to answer this destroying this franchise, and so we just move on and forget they're at the centerpiece of everything bad about this team since 2011, because we're stuck with them.

  8. The one question I'll always have.

It's abundantly clear from both the EF Eichel interview, and others, that the focal point moment of breakdown was when Jack asked for a trade in 2020.

IF the universe is the same, but Jack doesn't ask for that trade, and just soldiers on, do the Pegula's let him have his preferred surgery? I think the answer is yes. Which would mean, this wouldn't have been 100% about the Buffalo doctors' perspective, but also billionaire pettiness.

In other words, as GM, tell Terry you agree and then get as close as possible to doing the opposite without losing your job.

If the Sabres ever become successful again, it'll be in spite of bad ownership.  Not because of it.

Oh, I wouldn't be GM long haha.

I'd tell the Pegula's pretty early on they're idiots. I'd try to hold out for 1-2 paychecks though.

It looks incredibly unprofessional. I can't understand why any of this needed to be said.

All they needed to do was say that due to Jack's injury situation the team won't start the season with a Captain. It's that easy.

Instead he's taking shots at Jack for not being the team's heart and soul? Even if that is true, you don't need to say it.

Adams, and I guess the Pegulas, must really hate Jack. Like, they must think he's the biggest piece of ***** in the world.

I think they're extremely disappointed, no doubt. He was supposed to be the guy. They paid him 80 million dollars guaranteed long before he earned it, and hasn't done anything of note for this franchise, and now, he wants out 5 years early on that deal he didn't earn.

I despise the way Terry and Kim have run this team, but I'd feel the same way about Jack. How can't you?
