Sabres sign Defenseman Connor Clifton to 3 year 3.33 AAV Deal
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I want 8 NHL caliber defensemen and the bottom 4 to be equally capable on any given night. Johnson can play 45'ish games and actually help in other ways. Similar to Anderson's role the past few seasons. I think the current defense group of Dahlin, Power, Muel, Clifton, Joker, Lyubushkin, Stillman, E Johnson, Bryson is not going to be the final configuration. -
You have been pushing Clifton for 10 months and we signed him. Is he garbage now? Agree. A healthy Lyubushkin was a good 3rd pair guy. He played hurt and very hurt, more than he did healthy.
-
Yes, there could be another move coming.
-
Well we aren't a good team yet. Especially on the blueline. If he is better than Clague/Bryson/Stillman then we improved the group. We don't have to rush Ryan Johnson into the lineup either. He is big and tough and he has a veteran presence that we could use back there. He deserves more respect than some of you guys are giving. I hope he is not washed up and I actually trust Kevyn Adams to know this more about this than the experts on Sabresspace such as me and you.

You are wrong. You don't bring in tryout players with our current defense. We had the kind of depth that gets you in 9th or 10th place in the conference. We had poor depth year (Clague and Bryson) and it didn't work. Look at our W/L record when Muel was hurt. Look at the minutes lost by Lybushkin to injury. Look at the losing streak that happened when half our defense went down. Look at how many games Dahlin played injured - hampering his ability to recover. You really want tryout players and misfits like Clague and Bryson for depth? Then we will repeat last year. Sure we are paying a lot, but for one year. Talk to Adams. Perhaps he and Granato see him as a 4/5. I see him as 6/7 and depth unless they plan on moving some other players.
-
He is not known as a "clown" around the league, actually quite the opposite. It is a one year deal, a bit expensive but we have the cap space this year and he will be valuable if we have injuries, which we had lots of last year. I can see our 5/6 pair rotating a new player in almost every game. It is called depth.

you keep 8 NHL defenseman Dahlin Muel Power Clifton Luby Joker rotate in: Stillman Johnson Rochester: Bryson along with Ryan Johnson.

Sabres sign Defenseman Connor Clifton to 3 year 3.33 AAV Deal

He outhit any of our current defenseman by 2:1. I just hope he remains physical. I always wondered why he played so edgy for a 5'11" 190 lb defenseman, but on the Bruins everyone has everyone else's back. I like the term and the dollars. Good guy to have, especially on the PK. -
He did a good job last season and he fits in with the team but getting better means replacing some players. I do think he could be back. Would make a good 13/14 forward.
-
True, but when he played in 5v5 situations, the puck went into our net 23 more times than it went into their net. I prefer we move on from him and add a steady two way forward or help on the blue line. Alone he may not get much, maybe we can package him an add a useful player that helps fill the gaps we have today.

Also interesting counter to Lee I must be lucky. Service probably varies by region.
-
Excellent. thought provoking. The irony is that Lee is vilified today.

Why? It’s a vacuum that sucks up grass and leaves. Why is that complicated or bad?

I broke a guitar string yesterday, had no time to go to a music store …. Amazon had 3 sets of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky’s at my door by noon today. I am still amazed at their execution. Never had a problem.
-
I need a full knee replacement soon and yesterday I struggled just to golf 18 holes, that was with a cart. I had a terrible score. You are very fortunate.
-
But when Max Domi gets a penalty he will physically be too close to Rob Ray. Not good.
-
Isn't Wheeler a bit of a diva though, and does he have a 200 foot game?
-
Yes, Quinn on IR could change things. I do not want to keep VO, even with Quinn out.
-
pffft ... What about me? I am the guy to take this team to the promise land. Give me 3 or 4 moves and we are drinking from the cup. @Taro T is pretty sharp but I created him in my image. First move is @PASabreFan gets Paul Wieland's old job, that will re-invigorate the market. I know lots of players that want to shoot at him when he plays goalie in my re-established free Open Practice for the kids. Second move, I am trading @tom webster for a goalie.
-
The first thing I thought of was how this correlates to VO. Smith is 32, VO is 27 - that might be all we have to plead a case that VO is worth more than a 3rd. Thanks a lot Pittsburgh.

Seriously, Adams just re-signed KO, ZG, and he said Jost is next. Bringing in guys Accari and Engvall would have been good and something I have wanted (adds experience, two-way play, and grit) but there looks to be no more room, even if you move on from forwards like VO and VH. Are they going to look closely at Kulich, Rousek and Savoie, or are they going to stockpile bottom 6 forwards? We need to add defensive depth and a goalie, same as we talked about for quite awhile.

Obsession with wood. heh heh

Gibberish. There is so much here that is skewed that I think you come here to troll. You listen to “other people on Podcasts”, that’s good to know.

Marchand is 5’9” and 176. He seems to play with confidence.
