  1. Is leaf blower a euphemism for the Toronto media?

Probably wasn't then, but who knows, I was just a kid at those games. Either way it works both ways now, even better. I used to hate the Leafs, particularly Sudin and Domi, and they might as well not even exist at this point.

  2. The difference between the Leafs and Sabres has never been close to the Bills and Pats. Both teams happened to slump at the same time. Both teams are seemingly on the upswing at the same time as well. Sabres have a head start, and I think they have more of the pieces in place at this time, but Toronto can seriously improve in the draft this year and in the offseason. I would love a great rivalry again, I want more than just Boston. I want consistently competitive games against division opponents that we love to hate. I want the arena to buzz again. I don't want to look around and see everyone on their phones. I want the "blow Leafs blow" chant back. Hell, update the old clip they used to use in Leafs games and have Lehner using a leaf blower. I want hateful rivalries back more than anything, and I definitely think it's coming.

  3. They've went longer without a Cup than we have

I get that argument, but they've still been there. More than what we have. Don't get me wrong, I want the rivalry of the 90's back, but this isn't the way to go about that. Two good teams will do the trick.

  4. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the Laffs' last cup win.  Can we get a 1994 Rangers-esque "Sixty-Seven" chant going around the league?  It'd be even more hilarious in October than it was in actual playoff games for the Rags in 94 (note, not even the slightest bit funny, Devils fans).  Especially since actual playoff games for that lot are still a few years off, by any reasonable measure.

You can't pick on a team for not winning a cup in x amount of years if you've never won a cup.

  5. Yes they were hard on Sabres fans. Now they are taking a page out of the Sabres tank book and playing the tank game to perfection. Its funny how the Toronta media make it sound like the leafs braintrust invented the way they are tanking.

My girlfriend lives in Toronto, and the things her friends are saying about Toronto doing it "the right way" and the "dignified way" makes me want to puke. These were the same people that were calling us a disgrace to the league last year. Leaf fans are some of the most delusional on the planet.

  6. Who says we're getting Matthews?

I want to get our defense correct. That is priority #1. Matthews doesn't help us with that.

Plus we'd be running into an influx of centers. As fantastic as Matthews may be we need wings and defense. Give me one of the Finns or Chychrun.

  7. Word up.

I don't see him as part o the winning equation once "the team" is settled.

What about Kane makes you think he won't be here? His hockey I.Q. is definitely one of the lowest on the team, but he's a grinder, great on the forecheck, has had a decent goal scoring year even with missing time, and his tenacity creates plays that other guys can benefit from. That Reinhart goal against the Jackets was all Kane. He needs some hard coaching so he stops with shots from everywhere, and quits those idiotic no look backhand passes, but the benefits greatly outweigh the negatives with his game. Nothing he's doing negatively can't be changed.

  8. I'm someone who would have been just as pleased with a great end of season push for this team as I would be for a high draft pick this year. Now the latter seems more likely, and the stacked draft this year makes me feel a little bit better about it. Call me pro tank if you want, but this team is showing serious improvement this year even with a roster with a ton of new and young players, some key injuries, and a few disappointing players. We are definitely better than we were last year, with a few weak spots on the team. Matthews, one of the Finns, or Chychrun would ease the pain of ROR being out, fill a gap that needs filled, and make next year even more exciting somehow.

  9. I believe if you sponsor your girlfriend she should be able to get her *green card* pretty quickly and be able to work long before she becomes a citizen. I also recommend that she not give up her Canadian citizenship as both countries now recognize dual citizenships.

Yea we've been doing our research. There are a ton of options so we're trying to figure the best one out for our situation, but it's such a headache.

  10. What do you do?

I work in the packaging and shipping department at the Goya factory in Angola. A family friend owns the factory so I was hired on as a favor when I was hard up for work a few years ago at the bottom of the ladder. After they realized that I'm one of the few people there with any kind of critical thinking skills or ambition I moved up pretty quickly. It's not a job I want forever, or even right now, but like I said, it gives me the time to do the things I want to do with good pay. At 26 I can work a job I dislike for a while, I have plenty of time. And realistically I'll probably be there a while after my girlfriend moves here because she won't be able to work for a while until she gets citizenship.

  11. I hate my job, but I'm only here for 40 hours a week, make good money, and I have the weekends off to go see my girlfriend in Toronto. That being said, when she moves here later this year I'll be finding a new job immediately. It works for me right now because I have consistent days off to go see her there. But working at this place sometimes makes me want to blow my brains out sometimes.

  12. SO performances have been abysmal, but his movement for a 6'4", 240 pound human being is unreal. A high ankle sprain is a horrible injury for a goalie, and literally affects just about everything you do in net. He's performed very well, even better than I thought he would, especially coming off that injury. When he's on he's the best player on the ice and can keep us in games. He just suffers from little to no goal support on most nights. You can also tell his own ultra competitiveness gets in his own head sometimes though. He needs to be better about shaking off a bad goal or a bad performance. That will come with time.

  13. But now it's affecting his ability to do his job. That's a leap in a bad direction. Two strikes and Zadorov was out.

Kane was at the NBA dunk contest the night before the game on Sunday. Didn't show in his play there. He stayed out too late and up. He likes it here, his teammates like him. If it happens again it's an issue. For now it's just a dumb mistake.

  14. Where does this guy want to play? LA, Miami or NY I am guessing. Maybe Chicago. The m.o. seems to be getting himself traded out of town.

I wouldn't go that far in this situation. A young guy made a bad judgement call after a long night out. Who hasn't done it before? Sure, you can make the repeat offender argument for him, but I don't view this as egregious. Just a bad call by a young guy.
