  1. With respect, I think trying to paint it as firing Bylsma because of the players is the wrong way to look at it. Bylsma should be fired because he's a bad coach. That some players may have recognized he's a bad coach is neither here nor there. If Murray still thinks Bylsma is a good coach, then we have bigger problems whether he fired him or not.

^This. All of this. I might add that if the players recognize that he's a bad coach it likely makes it much worse. That would probably snowball to them questioning the organization's plan, if they are truly being molded for success, whether to stay here long term etc.

  2. I tend to think that Eichel's ego is a problem.

He has always been the centre of attention everywhere he has played.  He wants that here in Buffalo too.  Problem is that he is now a professional and really needs to act like one.

I have no issue with him, or any other player for that matter, being benched.  He needs to learn some tough lessons.

Samson seems to have matured nicely and my hope and belief is that Jack will too.

I got a big problem with him being benched. Disco has to put the same effort and resources into innovating his approach and clearly has not. The hockey world has passed his system/ideas by (and this happens in all fields), but we can all change and he has CHOSEN not to. He is asking a 20y/o to utilize that system and play at an all-world level within his antiquated system (which he largely has!).  Yet it is Disco who has not invested his time into evolving his plan and putting the players in the most appropriate path for success. He simply has no leg to stand on.

  3. Unless Matthews is Lemieux to Eichel's Ron Francis, this argument is about as relevant as Bergeron is better than Toews or Thornton is better than Sedin.

I'm cool if the mods have a "all Matthews is better than Ike" comments policy that includes an automatic posting of this exact statement. This concept must be drilled into the masses brains over and over again.

  4. I don't believe we could have made this move. 1st place Montreal, historic franchise, rival of the team that just gave you the walking papers OR a rebuilding job in Buffalo. In this case it is less about Buffalo and more the fact you can stick it to your former employer immediately. If you are Julien, what is not to love about that opportunity?

  5. Which is why a detection system would be a great thing.

Why not install the sensors and use them as an adjunct to the official's call? When you have something visually inconclusive, the sensor would tell you what's what.

Actually automating the offsides call is way harder than automating a goal call.

Bingo. Tell us if the puck crossed the line, unless I am missing something this should really speed up the process rather than slow it down. I will restate what I said in an earlier post, can we let refs decide in real-time whether there was goalie interference/off-sides and leave this technology to determine if puck crossed the line?

  6. That angle doesn't help much. It's not directly over the goal line. It's at a slight angle and allows for a distinct optical illusion.

I'm so tired of hearing about chips and lasers. It is 2017. If it were possible, we'd have it by now. Unless people can point to the technology that makes this feasible, I wish they'd stop throwing it in the league's face.

We've had the basic technology for 20 years.

I would prefer they just used something like this to tell me whether or not a puck went across the line and leave everything else to a live call. One ref on the ice should be able to tell us whether or not a goalie was interfered with right?

  7. Mike Schopp's head must have finally ess-ploded when he read the following. He was ranting before the McDermott hire about how the Bills didn't want to discuss what they were looking for in a head coach, lest they hand other teams' some advantage. Well, Terry won't even discuss it NOW. I mean, he could. But then he'd have to smother us with pillows and drop us three miles into the earth, or something. It's funny.

"We are not going to disclose any of the things we used to pick our coach because, again, this business is so competitive, I'm not going to tell the world, the rest of the league what we look for in a coach. That's our business."

Now, my final point on this interview. Golly gee, I hope I get this in context. Graham asked the Pegulas what message they had for the fans.

TP: I tell them that we as owners go through the same emotions they do. Both of our organizations are working extremely hard to put a better product on the ice and on the field. We're working hard.

    KP: It's not easy.

TP: It's not easy to win.

He was NOT asked to comment on the success of the Patriots or anything. Like Foligno's comment, but worse, I don't want anyone associated with Buffalo sports franchises to have this attitude. What's more concerning almost than the attitude is the idea that they think they're doing a good job, but — what? — they just haven't been lucky yet?

I guess the good news for fans like me is that apparently the Bills are pretty much consuming these owners. But we don't have nearly as much information about how the Pegulas own the Sabres. Covering their tracks better? What I worry about is Murray/Bylsma not working out, and then the Pegulas have to fix things. Anyone have confidence in them? Show of hands?

What attitude? This is an enormous issue I have with friends, old sportswriters, etc....What do you want him to say? I cannot think of anything he or Mrs. Pegula could say to change your conception of them. Interviews/press conferences are also pointless. Analyze what happens during the games, players, strategies, and of course the teams' win/loss records. Everything else is just noise.

  8. Well that and reportedly asking opponents why they were playing so hard and to "take it easy" on him. Derek Roy was a lot of things, but a serious competitor he was not.

4 consecutive 20 goal seasons, an 81 point season after Chris and Dan left. Imagine if he was more competitive? The entire town, including our favorite local radio personalities, turned on poor old Roysie because he could not replace the idols our GM failed to sign.

  9. I think Roy was a purely offensive 2nd line center that was constantly forced into a position to fail by Darcy's horrid team-building. He also gave ###### effort and was frustrating as all hell to watch.

I think Ennis is a free-wheeler that doesn't necessarily have the vision to last in the NHL. With his body, and the way he plays, he's always 1 square hit away from being done. I think he knows that now, and can't be the same player he was with the fear in him. It's pretty sad, because Ennis was my favorite player when I started getting into hockey in 2010-2011.

Derek Roy?  Party animal seems a reasonable observation. That being said, I own a Roy jersey as a direct result of Game 1 versus Ottawa in 2006. Roy was probably 22-24 years old when he ushered one of my favorite sports memories that day('memba the shorty in the late stages of the 3rd period?!). If he underachieved afterwards by putting up 4 consecutive 20 goal seasons, 3 of which came after Briere and Drury left town, that's alright by this guy. I get it, he was never Briere or Drury and was slow on many a back check. See also Vanek, Thomas and Pominville, Jason...These were all really good players who would have been served much better with better play at the pivot (Draft/sign a center Darcy!!!!).

  10. My two year old's bed time has creeped later and later and it gotten to the point where he's awake until 1130. This gives me no down time, very limited sleep and and just an overall miserable quality of life.

I'm sure I'm partially to blame but I think my wife is the main culprit. I think he naps longer than she is telling me giving him the energy to stay up late.

I've read toddlers are supposed to nap 1-2 hours and be awake by 3 pm. From best I can tell, he's sleeping 1-4 or longer. I've had the discussions with my wife but she is selfish, and not in like a normal way but in like I don't care about how much anything I do ruins other people's lives, whatever I need is more important and everyone around me will suffer indefinitely.

I'm running out of patience and ideas...

Waiting until Cody falls asleep to do the driveway, as my wife, who has been sleeping for an hour and already took a nap today.

You are either past me and/or I am future you. Your sleep suffering will be soothed in the coming months, and an entirely new set of problems will re-emerge due to the cause of your symptoms. But constant sleep deprivation is the flipping worst. At one time I stopped short of my home and slept for an hour in my car just to get a break from the no sleep, tired at home tired at work cycle. What time does your son wake up? That should also give you an indication.

  11. Just for fun, here is the second line in Team NA Practice today

    Johnny Hockey-McDavid-Eichel

So I just looked at the wikipedia and apparently Johnny is 'Merican?! Can Eichel center him and Kaner? Is that even allowed in future international play?

  12. Coller is the MVP of the morning show and that's by far their best local program. He also balances out Petey from 10-12. Buscaglia was/is also very talented and left for a promotion. It seems common at that station. You can clearly tell these guys along with Jeremy, Cich, Fisher put in hours of extra work on analytics, songs, topics, etc.... This is in direct contrast to the majority of what is available at the local newspaper. Most of those are recycled takes or quotes from the locker room. Is it just me, or shouldn't the newspaper have more to offer in terms of sports commentary than the radio station? Dunne is an enormous loss and  almost everyone at the newspaper has on occasion written an original piece but too often it is just another hot take or tidbit we've heard elsewhere.
