  1. Some of us still enjoy the rare instances when our team scores goals. This Skinner fellow does that more frequently than all of the current Sabres wingers. That being said, he has just 1 year left on his contract and thus I would gather he would not be the only major piece coming back for ROR.

  2. I wonder if he'll be replaced or the position eliminated. The woman whom TBN hired as a columnist last summer didn't last long, but I liked her stuff.

Kimberley Martin is fantastic. So is Tyler Dunne. I thought Kimberley was on a fast track to the big leagues from the very beginning, but it is telling that they couldn't manage to keep either one of them while more senior writers seem to have tenure.

  3. Spent 1.5 hours yesterday working up a buffalo's best taco poll for sabrespace. I was extremely excited as this was going to be my first new thread. Couldn't figure out how to get the poll function in create new topic to work. I'm now pondering my future username.

  4. When Viktor Antipin was matched up against Hedman last night at even strength, the Sabres took 16 shot attempts while the Lightning took zero.

When Antipin faced Stamkos and Stralman together, the Sabres took 12 shot attempts and the Lightning took 1.

So extend him for a year or two? The fact that this guy couldn't get any playing time given the roster makes me more than a little nervous regarding leadership down at 1 Seymour H Knox III Plaza.

  5. I think the problem with some of these players not from North America is that they always have it in the back of their mind that if it doesn't work out in the NHL, they can always go back home and play and make decent money. they come over, give it a shot and if it doesn't work, they are back home to play where they may find it much easier

I bet that thought has crept into their minds, maybe their aspirations are different since they are exposed to the European leagues unlike us. Wondering how closely organizations work with the most skilled prospects...Do they get extra help away from the rink to further development?

  6. I want to see him not look horrific in Rochester for the first time before we see him on jack 's wing

Agreed, but the kid is still 19.  I cannot imagine being that young with so much at stake. The tools are there, he may just need a gut check or he may not be cut out for it. From the organization's point of view, the best course of action may be to work closely with him in the off season to bolster the weakest parts of his game.

  7. There was just a touch of snow on the west, it did get down to 35 pretty quickly, I wanted to hit the south, but the drive was too much, I gotta drive back into Vegas still this eve. Is it sad that I didn't even pack a sabres jersey, I used to love representing my team, but no, not this version of the sabres

Wore a sabres hat most of the trip leading to a completely serendipitous meeting at the Canyon with a family who's kids are in the same elementary school as ours in WNY.

Apologies to the mods if this belongs in a separate thread, is there a game on?

  8. I think it's fair to say that Harrington is often right when criticizing the on-ice results -- but literally anyone with eyes could do that.

I also think he adds essentially zero value in terms of hockey analysis or knowledge of NHL dynamics or behind-the-scenes machinations at the Sabres.

    +1

  9. In order to leave bills you have to have credit to be able to spend.  In order to get credit and leave aftermath you have to actually do something.  Isn't the whole problem with millenials the fact that they want other people to do everything for them?  ;)

"They" work more hours per week than previous generations, but don't let that ruin the narrative.  ;)

  10. Anything to get Reinhart as 3rd center and "skate 3 lines" like in the Drury-Briere-Roy days

    Pouliot - Eichel - Okposo

    Girgs - ROR - Pominville

    Kane - Reinhart - Bailey

    Moulson - Larsson - Fasching

Heard Bailey as right shot can play left wing, could sub him instead of Girgs and get:

    Pouliot - Eichel - Okposo

    Bailey - ROR - Pominville

    Kane - Reinhart - Baptiste

    Girgs - Larsson - Fasching

    Yup to all of this.

  11. My EA NHL17 dream season?

    Girgensons (10) - Eichel (38) - Baptiste (13)

    Pouliot (15) - ROR (25) - Okposo (25)

    Kane (30) - Reinhart (20) - Pominville (15)

    Rodrigues (7) - Larsson (13) - Fasching (6)

    Moulson (0), Des (0), Bailey (4), Josefson (4), Nylander (3)

    Scandella (5) - Risto (15)

    McCabe (7) - Bogosian (7)

    Beaulieu (4) - Antipin (10)

    Depth D (5)

281 G for first in the NHL

Came here to post an almost identical lineup. Might upgrade Jack's linemates with Bailey, but otherwise A+.

  12. Oof. Not your best moment(s).

The idea that the "cancer industry" has some quiet vested interest in perpetuating the disease rather than defeating the disease (gah), is ... well. It's repugnant.

I don't think I can sit this one out. I've heard this same argument/discussion at the thanksgiving dinner table and I simply don't understand where the public is getting information from. Given it is hard to  quantify, but we are making tremendous progress. Patients with extremely aggressive malignant disease have had incredible responses to an innovative therapy.

    http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmoa1407222#t=article

Treatments with a similar mechanism of action (Immunotherapy) have shown striking results in lung, skin, kidney, and other cancers.

I am unsure why the message doesn't reach the public. In 2013 Immunotherapy was the breakthrough of the year in Science magazine. It has been touted on dateline, Time magazine, 60 minutes, etc. The information is out there on these innovative trials and many of these treatments are now available for broad tumor types. Heck, you can hear us talking about it at Canalside in open public forums.

There is also no sum of money you could pay most of us to be silent if we had something better for a patient. Finally, most of us are ego driven and our careers in science are motivated by what becomes of our legacy. If there is another enormous advancement that we have, I cannot imagine how that would be buttoned up. You would have to purchase everyone on my floor along with our families/friends? How would that even work?
