Not one single healthy player that loves hockey want to play for this trash org, that would supprise me. Lol.. its all showbizz with players that want to come to Sabres. Thinking otherwise would be quite foolish.

Well if they received the Linus who looked good for us, it's a big loss, if they received the Linus who couldn't stay healthy for any long stretch of time, well 5M of 4 years is a giant overpayment. We'll see who gets the last laugh.

Linus will be fine, lets just say he cant wait to finally play the big games where he will prove all doubters how good he really is.

Just spoke to him about the trade but ill leave the short conversation out that we just had.

For me this is one awkward situation since about 20% of my hockeheart is with Sabres. I will follow Linus whereever he goes and that is no news for anyone here, but having Linus playing for Sabres big rival Boston will hurt, trust me.

Maybe another big trade is happening shortly. Lets see.

Some would think this way (you obviously) and others (me) think that when you put on a jersey you should feel pride and feel you owe it to those people that save their extra pennies to attend games or use hockey as a happy escape from life issues or all the other reasons we watch sports and attend games and invest our time in this stuff, and I might add that's exactly what Granato was talking about (just saying) but yes, before I ramble too much, these rich bastards owe the fans for their privileged lives. If they don't feel that F them and show them the door.

We, the fans, owe Jack nothing. He's a ***** if he thinks otherwise.

Sorry if that comes off bitchy, but the idea that fans owe athletes annoys me.

and you believe what GMs say?

So if you were Jack, what would you have said to the fans?

You dont sound bitchy to me, i just think we see this differently as you've already mentioned.
I honestly think the picture is bigger than you, me and Jack. It must be hard to feel pride of wearing jearsey of the worst team in NHL, it just cant be any pride in that at all and i really hope he feels that way. Real changes have to be made to even provide grounds for 'pride' in this trash organisation and that is my firm belief.

Pride is earned, both ways, not just by money but with mutual respect between employeer and employee, we dont pay jack remember that, we pay Buffalo Sabres.

    and I disagree with that.

It SHOULD be a team game but it often isn't. What did Eichel say? Time to think about Jack Eichel. When's the last time he said he owed anything to Buffalo or the fans? imo Jack has always been about Jack.

As for Skinner, I just don't think he cares one way or the other. He wanted to be near his family, not be in Buffalo cause he loves Buffalo. He's an uncoachable player imo. Just does what he wants to do. So you can drop him down the line up when he doesn't listen like Kreuger did or you can bump him back up and cater to his play as maybe Granato tried but I think he dropped him down again later as well. That uncoachable attitude is NOT a good influence on the kids.

"puck luck" lol. Two years of excuses.

What does Jack ow Sabre fans ?

His employer has given him a chance to lead the worst team in NHL, actually the worst team in the history of NHL, and beyond that he his employer has given him the worst ***** coach that ever existed on this planet, and you think Jack ow us something?

I think we ow Jack atleast to deal with this sh1t in silence and get over with it one way or another.

Montreal is not "built for the playoffs."  Montreal has Carey Price.  That team isn't going to beat freaking Winnipeg (as you say) because Hellebyuck is better than Price.  And that's it.  And whichever one comes out of it is going to face a reckoning from a team that IS built for the playoffs.

First of all, several have objected to my statement about having more local players at the expense of foreign players and a coach with an NHL track record and not Gronberg. I don't like the unfamiliarity of that coach to this level of competition. We've already had that. I think there's a bunch of people over-reacting and nitpicking and I don't care what other people think.  You can think what you want to think. I'm not going to prevent you. Even if you're wrong. But these brave people with their digital pitchforks want to squelch or stamp out ideas about more local players. Even a Patrick Kane.

The formula to assemble a championship team, has eluded the Sabres for 50+ years. The way things are going, a Stanley Cup may never come here and the Sabres may never emerge out of the basement. The owners, who "know better" than the fans, will make sure of that. But who among us really knows what it takes? I don't think anyone knows. Not even people with tens of thousands of posts, and not even people in different time zones.

All these ideas about acquiring this or that player or coach is interesting speculation but it's strictly a hobby and a way to blow off steam. It's fantasyland and people should remember this. Nobody here knows the real answers. Maybe more Swedes, Finns and Russians (whoops, Buffalo doesn't sign Russians anymore) might be a good idea but...but the formula and balance of the team is more important. Who among you would've picked a Scott Mayfield?

A town like Buffalo in particular with the ten years the Sabres have had, needs players with heart, passion and a real committment to turning this around. because it's not the glamorous or rich place that a New York or Chicago or LA might be. This makes it really hard and character has to be at a premium. It takes a special kind of player committed to scratching and clawing their way out of the basement. And I've seen a lot of the Sabres players succomb to the never-ending losing.

Because of the longterm lack of success, Buffalo feels it has play catch so it has to overpay players. What the management doesn't seem to realize is that overpayment money has ruined several players and it throws a balanced roster out of whack. Look at the Avalanche. McKinnon has taken the hometown discount to sustain the winning combination of the team. Do you think Eichel would? .

I don't see passion that it takes with this team, although jettisoning Krueger has helped. Since most players in the NHL don't want to be in Buffalo, not only because it's Buffalo but because the management team is a laughingstock and the team is historically bad, assembling the right combination of players and coaches is extremely difficult. It will require a surgeon, not the butchers Buffalo has had, to assemble the right pieces.

It seams to me you keep discarding the errors you make that others have to correct, and then you tend to copy others opinions to your own kind of twisted reality.

First you make it very obvious you dont want more foreign players or a coach, and then a bit later you say maybe that would be the answer and might be a good idea.. doesnt make any sense.

I wrote the longest reply ever just to delete it afterwards, because i realised that you will not understand, ur experiance is not enough.
You dont really understand the way Hockey works today and you obviously have almost zero knowledge of NHL it seams.

I do want to point out though,

Everyone is allowed to their own opinion to be honest, but you also need to be corrected, more than once.

If Gronborg is so good why doesn't he already have a job? He's been speculated about for years.

I dont know to be honest, since when did a NHL org hire a head coach with 0 nhl experiance? i think that is why. There are really good coaches out there in the hockey world, some org need to take the first step i guess.

I was just advocating for more local players. I can't remember a Buffalonian Sabre besides Bailey and Gionta (if you count Roch.) who ever really played on the home team, and I'm talking about 50 years. Someone might point out 1-2 more, but my point is we never get to cheer for good players, and there are some, who come from around here. Thinking outside the box has become inside the box and the Buffalo area is outside the box. Are there any conservatives on this board, whether republican or otherwise? Please shout out.

You were just brought back into reality. U have no clue what your talking about mr fairytale.

    One of those opinionated days...

One thing about the Sabres, they have a huge contingent of Swedish players with whom Gronberg theoretically could communicate. I've never seen a team with so many Swedes. But many of them have experienced so much losing on the Sabres, I think most would prefer to play elsewhere.

I would prefer to see players on the Sabres to have a regional American/Canadian majority. Not sure there are any French Canadians on the Sabres but we've had some outstanding players play well for us through the years.  I honestly think, besides the losing, that most of these overseas players have no feeling for the city of Buffalo and don't get Buffalo. Mercenary players (I'm including Eichel, Okposo and Skinner) will demand more money, put less heart and soul into their job and give up easier.

To me, the players who are instrumental in winning Stanley Cups aren't the Eichels of the world, it's the guys named Smith.

I'd like the Sabres to take a conventional NHL coach like a Boudreau or a Gallant that has a track record of success and not always come up with outside-the-box major hires. I'm sick of outside the box. We've tried many different flavors of outside the box. It hasn't worked for us.

This post is mindblowing, "I honestly think, besides the losing, that most of these overseas players have no feeling for the city of Buffalo and don't get Buffalo"

This in bold is outrage, your so wrong on this take that it makes me wonder if you are for real. The fact that a elite player would some how bond with every city he moves to play hockey is LOL. These are hockeyplayers my friend, not some loyal city members with some faith in their package. I see what your saying, that "Only if they was born in Buffalo they would understand, they would be so much more loyal to Sabres and we would win easy", that is your fairytale story really.

But this in reality, anyone that know about hockey know that this that your referring to has no real meaning to the outcome in the end.

Yes there are true storys of the city boy that became loyal to the city team and won in the end, but yea.. who cares.

And also, Sabres have hired stanley cup coach, euro coach, a cityboy Phil Hously defender, u name it.. nothing has worked. So Rikard Gronborg could succeed as much as Gallant could, and i like Gallant to. It is what it is, get over it and move on to the next because that is all we fans can do really. Look at Buffalo Bills.

You've never seen a team with so many swedes?

    Ducks - 5 swedes
    Cyotes - 3 swedes
    Bruins - 2 swedes
Sabres - 4 swedes (and i wouldnt count Mattias Samuelsson since hes never even lived in sweden but technically he has double citizen memberships)
    Flames - 6 swedes
    Hurricanes - 2 swedes
    Blackhawks - 2 swedes
    Avalanche - 4 swedes
    Columbus - 4 swedes
    Stars - 1 swede
    Red wings - 3 swedes
    Oilers - 5 swedes
    Panthers - 5 swedes
    Kings - 3 swedes
    Wilds - 4 swedes
    Canadians - 1 swede
    Predators - 4 swedes
    Devils - 2 swedes
    Islanders - 1 swede
    Rangers - 1 swede
    Senators - 3 swedes
    Flyers - 2 swedes
    Penguins - 1 swede
    Sharks - 3 swedes
    Blues - 3 swedes
    Lightnings - 3 swedes
    Leafs - 3 swedes
    Canucks - 4 swedes
    Knights - 3 swedes
    Capitals - 3 swedes
    Jets - 1 swede

    Just fyi.

Let us all stop flinging insults at each other about Gronborg and put some objective perspective on him.

Gronborg is a head coach in the Swedish Elite League, so it's not like he has only been an assistant, only coaches the juniors / college / developmental leagues, short tournaments, etc.  He is an experienced, accomplished coach in one of the best pro leagues.

The big problem he has with the Sabres is the Sabres' baggage.  10 years of results from a deliberate tank.  Ralph Kreuger's monumental failure.  Rookie GM.  Unhappy top players.  Eichel's injury.

Thus, in spite of his accomplishments, his lack of head coaching experience in the NHL -- especially knowledge of the players, other coaches, etc. -- makes him a far riskier choice than he ought to be.  How will any cultural differences matter, if at all?  How will his lack of knowledge of the league affect the team?  Can he exploit his different perspective on the game to the Sabres' advantage?  How will he handle the travel, which is positively grueling by comparison?  How will the long season affect him?  How will his he adopt his strategies to the smaller ice surface?  How many other coaches allegedly got invited to B&B 50?  (50th anniversary of the collaboration of Benny and Bjorn of ABBA; I do know that Borje Salming was there, so it's not like they don't know their hockey.)

When I see this, it is crystal clear that he should have been the preferred out-of-the-box choice over Ralph Krueger -- more clear upside and less downside.  Speaking as someone who sees things differently from most, I view his experiences and perspective as largely positive, but they can boomerang and hit us instead.

I share @MODO Hockey's enthusiasm for him, but as a practical matter, I think GMKA has to *really* believe in him to hire him.

I think you should read my thread about who he is and what he knows, that should answer some of your questions, read his quotes and yea also, he is not a head coach in the Swedish elite league. He is coaching in Zurich, Switzerland. NLA.

  12. 11 minutes ago, nfreeman said:

I agree with most of this post, especially that I wish Gronborg had been hired instead of RK, but he's a coach in the Swiss league, which is a big step down from the Swedish league.  He has not been a HC in the Swedish league or any comparable-or-better league.  (He used to coach the Swedish national team, which may be what you're thinking of.)

Usually the best coaches move from SHL to NLA because of the money and living standards. And the fact with that beeing a coach in SHL wont take u anywhere else than the swiss league if u wanna make good money make the choice easy. And since there is no market for swedish coaches in NHL then NLA is the only choice really.

And the best teams in NLA is compareable to SHL big time, really good players in that league. Fyi.

See also Krueger with the Swiss National team.  Not a selling point.

What on earth are u on about? Jesus christ.. thats like compairing Connor Mcdavid and Cody eakin, lol.

A ***** sure selling point, go look what Rikard has won and then go compare with Ralph. Just because both have coached on national level doesnt mean they are the same, not even close.

Maybe u had one beer to many 🤣
