3rd PHI goal: Entirely on Reinhart. WTF was that pass? Much too casual. Also Risto needs to challenge the shooter a bit more on the 2-on-1... don't completely commit to the shooter, but make some attempt to get stick on puck especially at the hash marks. Low hockey IQ again. Also, Ullmark too deep in his net again, Giroux noticed and fired over his shoulder before he got in too tight.
I would have thought that the mistake was having 4 Sabres that deep in the O zone......
and in the 2-1 (or 3-1) break away situation, I would want the defender to take away the pass leaving the goalie to focus on the puck possessor .....
No?

Go to the 3:10 mark..... you're probably gonna vomit, but it's best to just do that some times....
I'm not sure who messed up. I'm thinking 72. But I do like his firepower.
What we've seen of Pilut, I like.... just wish he had 15 more lbs. on his bones.

Best Christmas Movie is A Christmas Story............. what else?
Red Ryder, Flagpole Frozen Tongues, and "Fra-gee-leh"............ it's full of great humor.

other observations........
the sabres 1st line had trouble with face offs....... overall, the numbers favored Phi by a small margin but 28 killed us on FO's.
we turned the puck over senselessly / lazily .....
Best part of the game was we purchased a #9 Christmas tree ornament!

Might do some art for them someday. No clue.

Some pretty neat history in Misery Bay concerning OHP and his fleet. I've got images of OHP, the shape of Presque Isle, and perhaps the Brig Niagara in my head.......

Maybe it's just my love of old time hockey, but I really think Bogo's going ballistic at the end of that game had a hand in waking them up and pulling together. Emotion. Caring.

For whatever reason, we''ve been a better team with Bogo back in the lineup. Emotion? Physical presence? Blazing speed?..... well, 2 out of 3 anyway...... I hope he stays with us for a while.
Upthread, someone mentioned Mittelstadt having a good game and I agree, but I'm still not convinced that spending some time in Rochester might be better for him and the Sabres in the long run. I'm conflicted.

Beautiful evening hunting whitetail. Only seen a beaver but first time out this season. Just getting warmed up for the moose hunt in a week! Can't wait! Anyone else going for moose this year?
I've been kicking around Moose hunting next fall...... maybe in Newfoundland...... My Daughter wants to go on a hunt for something I'd never chased before, and I just can't afford an Alaska or Yukon moose hunt, so Newfoundland is an option.
In general, where are you hunting?

Got a 2 person limit(12) of Lake Erie walleye out of Cattaraugus Creek yesterday. Beautiful day. This season has been such a good one on Lake Erie, you hate to see Summer come to an end. Saw a bald eagle at the creek mouth, and then another on the thru-way while heading back to Rochester. Seems to be more and more of them around Western New York.

No tornadoes, but back in late August of '92 we got hit by a waterspout while fishing 3 miles out in Lake Ontario ........ that was exciting. Scared the crap out of everyone on board to the point that we quit for the day...... Spent the afternoon cleaning up crap.

Sod, that's a bad day for sure........ hopefully the boat repair isn't too involved and you can be back out on the water looking for a better day.

I lived in Niles, Mi for a year and fished the pier at Benton Harbor / St. Joe back in the mid 80's. Perch were so big, leeches could be used as bait for them......... unreal big. Sad to hear that the numbers are being impacted by gobies. The shipping industry has never been held accountable for the introduction of invasives.

I'm going to have to stop by here more often, I notice in the last few posts you do mostly fresh water fishing. I'm trying to remember but it's been a long time since I fly-fished or was out on fresh water. The last few years I've been doing all salt water fishing.
If you live around Buffalo, or Rochester, you've got some of the best freshwater fishing in the world on your doorstep. Lake Ontario Salmon and Trout fishing rivals any salmonid fishery in the country, bar none........ And Lake Erie's legal walleye population has exploded. The Eastern basin of Erie is giving up limits of mostly 18 - 21" fish that will continue to fill coolers for the next 5 years or so. The good old days for these 2 lakes are now!
