The night is beautiful. Mrs. iT and I had our inaugural match of light-up bocce

If you don’t own light-up bocce then you’re missing great fun.

What?? Pizzas light up now?? I’m still trying to figure out why anyone would put fruit on a pizza.

    Sabres should give them 9 & 16 & then trade 2 & 28 for 6 & 11 (?) from Columbus.  Hello, Jiricek!

    I like that

Why would you want to waste 2 top 1/2 1st round picks on a guy who’ll end up as a 3rd pairing defenseman?? You have a late pick in the 1st round and pick #41 for that. You have 3 22 year olds and a 19 year old in your top 4. Take the best 2 forwards available and move on. Nobody’s likely to play for at least 2 years anyway.

You don't have to break the draft pick bank on an RFA offer sheet. I could see a team giving an offer sheet at the 2nd-round (under $4.1M) or 3rd-round level (<$2.05M) for one of those cap-strapped teams' depth guys.

For example, Nicolas Roy of the Golden Knights would make a solid 3C addition on many rosters and Vegas might simply have to take the pick if Stone is healthy. (Case in point: the Sabres would have a tremendous upgrade replacing Eakin with Roy, in my opinion. And they'd still have 2 2nds in 2023)

I have a hard time seeing KA leading the charge on something like this, which would be a fairly radical change in the way the NHL operates.

I agree with both of you, good example to use DarthE, I would think the obvious way around starting a war with another team is to offer the draft allotment for signing an RFA in a trade, possibly upping the price slightly, a 2nd and a 4th/5th to keep good will. As for VGK's, what they do with Dadonov will show their hand, he played pretty well for them to end the year so it will be interesting if they decide to rid themselves of him again or do they go another route and keep him. With Florida and VGK without draft picks both could be enticed.

  4. That's an awesome letter by Kyle and I have to say the Sabres team and management have been killing it finally in bringing good will to the fan base to revel in. It's been an inspiring year and they made strides in giving us fans something to feel good about and cheer.

John has generally been a pro, and I wish him well.

Hope the new guy brings something fresh to the general coverage we get of the Sabres: humour, a storytelling voice, passion, connections, an eye for angles no one else is taking...maybe all of the above.

By and large, Sabres media tends to consist too much of familiar takes and echoes of games and post-game pressers — which I now watch first-hand instead.

I'd like to see someone leading some fresh conversations.

I couldn't have said this better. I'd like to get a fresh voice with some newer/modern ideas. I generally liked his writing over the years but I think he mailed in too many of his articles lately that didn't really broaden my horizons so to speak.

Yes. It was Harrington. But it was clear Kevyn wasn't going to go anywhere near that topic.

It was actually his only bad answer of the day. The Sabres need better messaging on that issue than "just tell us and we'll fix it because we might know what needs fixing."

That said, PSE is on high alert to not rock any public funding boats these days given the favor they got from Hochul.

Stay tuned is a better answer. But they couldn't say that.

Although I think this is one of the best if not very best local team hockey site, it would be enhanced by your opinions JW. If you think you're the only one with posters that upset you, you'd be badly mistaken plus it's easy to either ignore or just disregard the banter. Welcome back.

On a side note, do you think Anderson comes back, my personal opinion is after getting his 300th victory, family considerations and late injury he decides to hang them up??

Fair point, but some of the attendance problems are due the fact that the place is falling apart somewhat.

Why would 2 guys who don't live within a 1000 miles of Buffalo care if they fix the arena?? The both of you aren't coming, oh wait I've heard that some of you old Moslems get pretty randy after Ramadan so let me take that back..... 😁😄 🥂

If Buffalo doesn't lose in regulation their seed will be 9.

    Losing in regulation combined w/ a Detroit win & it's 8.

    It'll be 9.

    😉

Could be 7 with a regulation loss and a victories by Detroit and Ottawa. The senators will lose the tie breaker by having more regulation wins.

  9. This won't be a popular opinion but here goes anyway. Should we do a 1 game tank?? With Detroit and Ottawa playing the Philly Flyers and NJ Devils, we could go from 9 to 7 in the draft order. Plus if Vancouver can win plus VGK lose to St. Louis we could end up with 7 and 15 instead of 9 and 16. I'll be cheering for a victory but it certainly won't hurt my feelings too much if that is the end result by a loss. 1st period yesterday was pretty entertaining, the rest of the game not so much, which did allow me to watch more of the NFL draft than I ever intended.

Goodbye old friend RJ, we'll miss your always entertaining play by play. Much Weeping at your retirement game.

  10. It's starting to look more likely the picks will be 9-11 and 16-17. #16 if Vegas doesn't make it and if they do I can't see them beating Colorado so #17. #8 starting to look more and more unlikely. I could live with 1st Nazar/Savoie, 2nd Geekie/Ohgren and Casey/Nelson with the 3rd pick and Kyrou/Salomonsson with the 2nd rounder.

Can you tell the difference between a team that's uninspired and a team being stuffed in their own end?

Why yes, we haven't sucked for the past 10 1/2 years we've just been uninspired. Couldn't you tell?? We weren't tanking in 2013 thru 15, we were just waiting for someone to inspire us.

I am generally unimpressed with Anson but as I have said before, I agree with him on this — the Sabres aren’t getting the opponents’ A games most nights.

It’s worth noting that Carter played 10 years in the NHL and probably has a good sense about how the players feel about games like this one.

I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't pee in my cheerios. Dude, the deluca500 king, is telling me after watching this team for the past 11 years, you're not a bit excited about a 15-8-3 record of late?? C'mon guy, just smile a little bit, you can do it.

Looked like the Islanders took the Sabres lightly to me too.

That's a team that we've found impossible to penetrate in recent years, and one that's flirted with a top 10 record in the back half of the season. Seemed easy tonight.

Yes, we are better, but unless the Islanders have fallen crazy hard, they've got a better game than that.

Probably but that was a complete domination of an Islander team like we haven't seen in a long time. Plus the Islanders didn't appear to happy with the outcome late in that game either. Another note did anyone else notice that Fitzgerald wasn't seen on the ice after that 3rd goal by NY?? That's the 2nd time recently his bad play has gotten him pulled from the game with no return.

In fact I don't think they were taking us lightly, I think they were completely surprised by the speed of the game we are now playing. There were quite a few if not cheap shots but close to it hits by Chara and other vets to our younger core that used to then get scared to play their game.

    What does that even mean?

I'm not sure, it kind of shocked me when he said it because with him having a national voice, I thought he might say some good things on how the Sabres were playing lately. I don't catch many Islander games so I don't know if he's a host on their shows or what but the inference was they were playing a non-playoff team so the Islanders didn't seem to care.

  15. I'm not sure if anyone listened/watched the Islander broadcast but Anson Carter said between the 2nd and 3rd period that the Islanders weren't skating and took the lowly Sabres lightly and that it was hard to get up for a team that doesn't hit and plays like a college team especially with the last 4 games of the season the NYI have against real playoff teams like Carolina, Washington and Tampa Bay. I was like holy doo doo dude, don't hold back or anything. His reputation just went down the toilet with me on that remark. 15-8-3 in the last 26 games and they weren't prepared for this team??

In a Saturday afternoon affair the Buffalo Sabres host the NY Islanders. Buffalo has won 4 of their last 5 games with the addition of their 1OA pick Owen Power. The Islanders on the other hand have lost 4 of their last 5 games. This will be the tie breaker between these 2 teams as each has won 1 and lost 1, Islanders won 4-1 in their 1st meeting while the Sabres won the 2nd meeting 6-3. The Islanders are led by Brock Nelson with 36 goals and 58 points, Mathew Barzal with 53 points and defenseman Noah Dobson with 45 points. Victor Olofsson has 23 points in his last 25 games including 13 goals, Jeff Skinner also has 23 points including 12 goals, Tage Thompson has 25 points in his last 25 games including 14 goals and Rasmus Dahlin has 18 points in this same time frame with 4 goals and 14 assists.

With the Sabres season about to end what will their Masterplan be moving forward??

Some interesting facts for Buffalo since their resurgence starting in March. They are 14-8-3 in that time period while being 16-30-8 beforehand.

During this winning period they have 81 GF and 85 GA. They have scored 59 goals in the 14 wins for a 4.21 average While scoring 22 goals in their 11 losses/ties for a 2.0 average. In their losses/ties they have given up 52 goals for a 4.73 average.

I am not against signing Manson.

I'm OK with overpaying for a 2RD, just so long as we don't give him term. I thinking anyone giving Manson more than 3 years ends up regretting it.

Just wondering, what’s wrong with our present top 4

    samuelsson-dahlin

    power-joker???

Why move away from any of them??

  18. The reason I don't think Manson's can be had is he is currently playing around 18 minutes of TOI in Colorado, he was playing 20 plus minutes in Anaheim. With our top 4 guys all averaging over 20 minutes of TOI, I don't see him wanting to come here to get 15 minutes tops on the 3rd pairing. We need two bottom pairing guys, Ian Cole and Gudbranson, I believe can be had relatively cheap, will add size, PK and grit to the backend and both are under utilized at the moment also.

An under the radar guy to checkout as a 4th line Center is Roy with VGK. Plays the 4th line now, adds size, speed and grit and is an RFA that'll need a raise after scoring around 40 points this year. I don't think VGK can afford him and should be available in a trade for the right price, plus he just turned 25. He can play with Girgs and Okposo for 1 year and then team up with Asplund afterward.
