Most rich people know that you don’t continue to finance a losing investment with money from your profitable ventures. The old saying “throwing good money after bad” the investment will have to fund itself And the Sabres organization is not making money. There is a reason why they fired most of their staff during the pandemic, firing Botterill and hiring Adams, Adams paying league minimum to a bunch of players. I know this is all antidotal but I’m pretty confident that Adams was given a shoestring budget. Thats why he’s all in on developing the youth in the NHL and not in Rochester.

I also had that optimism 6-7 years ago when the Sabres had a crap ton of draft picks and incoming young talent including a generational player. Things were all roses then. The problem is none of us are Nostradamus. We cannot predict the future. We don’t know what young players or prospects will develop into NHL level talent. We don’t know if our goalie prospects are even going to sign with the sabres. We don’t know Adams plan on the huge cap space the team has. He could blow it on trash like other Sabres GM’s have done i hope I didn’t burst your optimistic bubble. You never know. 🤷‍♂️

You do realize the Sabres probably can’t afford Trotz at his going rate let alone “making him the highest paid coach”. They are still paying several GM’s & coaches. That is why Adams has been running this team on the cheap

Celebrate the wins? This seem to be far and few between right now. They’re not even making these loses fun to watch. Are the coaching staff even teaching anything about defense or are they focusing on offense? Defense is horrendous. i get that this team is young but losing like this isn’t a positive. Eventually the young guys are going to lose their “love for the game”. See how Dahlin reacted at the end of the game? This guy sees what’s happening. He’s been through it every year he’s been in the league. It wears on them mentally and will spread like a virus in the locker room.

Three players (one defenseman) out of how many? Okie and Gergs haven’t been lighting up the lamp so I don’t think thats the problem. The goaltending is mediocre but if you had a defense corp who actually knew how to play defense, that wouldn’t be as much of an issue.

Even if Levi/Portillo sign, they’re not coming to the big club for a few years. Honestly I would be surprised if either signs with the Sabres at this point.

He wasn’t and that is a problem. He’s been in the league long enough to not make an asinine mistake like that. He will never be full time with the Sabres. He isn’t a nhl level goalie

I agree the Sabres need to start adding vets but what vet, that’s worth a damn, wants to play for the Sabres. They have to prove themselves to the league before players start to take them off their not trade lists

Next year? No chance. This team won’t be competitive for at least 3 more seasons. Thats IF Adams actually can make good decisions and the young players actually develop as expected

Its been 8 years of losing. Yeah it’s well beyond time to start counting wins as success. Tage Thompson has been really the only player showing great improvement and he’s an RFA next season. With the financial constraints Adams appears to be under, what real contract will he be able to offer Thompson? Grigs, Olofsson, Cozens have been basically absent from the game. if Adams makes the right decisions, this team may be competitive in 5 years. Thats only if Adams makes perfect decisions and the Pegulas eases the purse strings. I don’t see either happening.

First rebuild year? I don’t know what Sabres team you’ve been watching but This team has been rebuilding since 2014
