My god what a beaut from Sam.
-
Ullmark gives me a better vibe than Johnson.
Much better. And he is tracking tonight.
-
Bouncy puck tonight. May be a couple ugly ones.
-
The goals will come, the goals will come....
-
Kane's game is square peg through round hole. Maybe its what we need with the finesse of the team. But it has been pretty frustrating (for me) in his short Sabre career.
-
Thanks for the GDT guys.
One observation from the last few games: Sammy Reinhart's shot. Not sure if it's been discussed but goalies seem to have trouble reading the puck off his stick. A much heavier shot than I noticed in Junior (limited scouting).
As I'm sure with all here, I'm very excited to watch this line continue to grow tonight. They were the best trio on the ice after the first period last game and only stand to get better.
Go Sabs!
-
Larsson got the defender to commit to the pass and still passes it. Then a 3-on-1 ends in a weak shot block... This team should practice breaks a bit more.
He was absolutely gassed. He's had a strong game.
-
Uh-oh here comes the GIonta flames.
-
'Scuse me, they're "tough" angle shots.
Haha turnaround fadeaways from the blue line.
-
I really hope Kane changes his puck on net mentality on the PP. His low percentage shots are often as good as a turnover.
-
Eich is so strong with his poke check. The puck just stays on his tape on the takeaway. That plus his length will lead to a lot of goals on the forecheck.
Very strong debut from Bogo.
-
The Gus-Larsson-Reinhart line has been very good
Reinhart looking stronger with the puck the last couple of games. Creative puckwork when pinned also keeps cycles alive.
-
Awesome game. I actually turned down box seats for tonight's Preds - Sens game. Did the Sabres-Bills double in Buffalo this weekend and I have Preds tickets Thursday and Saturday. Needed a night home for a change... and wanted to watch the Sabres beat Tampa!
The rooting against a division opponent has intensified already.

Go ahead and look at that top line's stats, not even close when compared to every other player. And we know it ain't O'Reilly dragging them down
Such a good site. I think it's safe to say we can't have Mouls and Gionta on the same line.
-
Executed well from puck drop to empty netter. Can't remember seeing a team with the skill of TB have so much trouble getting out of their own end. Forecheck and defensive zone structure was top notch.
Again, Eich's coming out party. These guys continue to gush into the aftergame show. "Mario Lemieux-type stuff". So nice to have a shiny little object in Buffalo.
I thought one of Reinhart's strongest games as well. Literally. First time I've seen him shield the forecheck to buy time for zone clearance like that. And his awareness was on display also.
A lotttttt of hate on Gionta on here. I like the guy on the ice in key situations more than Mouls. His game continues to regress.
Hey this is fun!
-
I'm sure it's been said but: Eichel's introduction to the country. These guys are gushing over his incredibly strong performance on national TV. Reinhart showing off some of his strength on the puck too!
-
Yes. He has to share some of the blame, of course, but Larsson and Foligno are just not working as his wingers.
Think Larsson was one of the better players on the ice tonight, and they were the only line in the first two periods to provide some pressure. Think it's mostly on Eich, overthinking things, holding onto the puck a bit too long. Don't think Mouls is the answer but just my opinion.
How nice is it to have a dominant faceoff man to close out games? ROR won at least 3 in the last two minutes. That is huge.

I promise you all Deslauriers is not a top-six talent.
Sure but are guys like Gallagher, Garbutt, Maroon, Dupuis, Eakin, etc? All top 6 guys on top teams. Some very successful teams' approach is balance, and we're getting closer to being afforded the depth to follow that lead. All I'm saying.
-
Deslauriers - O'Reilly - Ennis
Reinhart - Eichel - Larsson
Kane - Girgensons- Foligno
Gionta - Legwand - McGinn
PP
Kane - O'Reilly - Ennis
Eichel - Risto/Bogo/Franson
Deslauriers not enough talent for the cycle game of Ennis/ROR or perfect dirty area presence to complement the two?
Kane talent wasted on 3 or electric but individual game ideally matched with two guys who put their heads down and get to the net?
Can Eich and Sam (and Larsson for that matter) continue to build chemistry and be enough to maintain Jack's influence on a game?
Will Disco Dan put out such a dangerous PP or continue to lean towards an even two units?
Hey, I know this is coming off a 3 game run with 129 total shots, but these are great questions to get to ask after years of despair!

This league is funny sometimes. Coming into the year I was fully prepared to pay zero attention to outcomes and just let the team grow, but hot damn, we've looked much better than I anticipated. As a result, I find the goaltending situation more bothersome than I thought I would. While far from a guarantee, I think this could be a playoff team with decent goaltending. I'm still not willing to sacrifice any real long term assets, but I'm definitely in favor of pursuing a solution.
Completely on page with this. We are looking more and more like a team who should be at least a bit active. We've outshot our opponents in each of the last 7 games by an average of 10 shots. My first reaction to Huck's trade was hell no, but no doubt it is an intriguing scenario.
Also, all this winning lottery talk is triggering some dark depression. Please let us enjoy some hard fought and controlling play before delving our psyche back to 2014.

ROR worth every penny. Possession is so valuable.

I was hyper critical of Sam's NHL readiness heading into the season but he has improved significantly each game. What a treat to see him and Yeichel building some chemistry out there. Although Eich has the tendency to be lackadaisical with the puck, especially so tonight.
One of Risto's best games so far. And Grigs, Mouls and Gionta are a solid #3.
-
Reinhart playing at full confidence. Getting better by the night.
Also, Ennis thinking too much out there.

Reinhart is going to have some beaut assists over his career. The difference between his blind passes out of the corner and Kane's is massive. Talk about two different ends of the awareness spectrum
