  1. My God, that was brutal to scroll through. Been a tough thread - maybe the anticipation and uncertainty getting to some. Let's all celebrate with a new hire tomorrow, or the understanding that he did not want to leave Detroit and collectively move on. Either way, let's do it together!!!

I think Risto, Pysyk, Larsson and Reinhart would thrive under Babcock.

He'll adore Gionta and I feel pretty safe with Foligno and Gorges too.

Eichel and Girgensons will thrive under anyone.

I am very curious to see what his relationship with Ennis, Kane and Bogo will be.

Zadorov is going to be put through the wringer

Appreciated this fodder and the discussion that followed. Think you're pretty dead on Dude. Would be a great match for Risto. Especially considering his accelerated improvement at the end of the season and Babs's (?) predilection for Scandinavian point men (doesn't sound right. and i know they were both Swedes, but allow me to indulge. shoot, that doesn't sound right either).

  2. The thing I may be looking forward to most in 2015/16 is Jack's ability to enter the zone cleanly, especially on the PP. He earned this responsibility almost immediately on USA and looked special in gaining the zone, retaining possession and setting up the play. Many times it was his speed on display - dashing in, stopping, and feeding it back to the blueline. Other times it was his quick hands and creativity. This skill set alone - something we may not have had since Myers Year 1 and the Brian Campbell years - will improve our PP dramatically. No more depending solely on the dump and chase and hope (thank God).

  3. Super careful with his words, but I think there are tells that indicate he is closing the door on the Wing chapter of his life.

This quote especially, talking about the Detroit ownership/management: "I'm as excited as anyone to have that opportunity come to a close and make a decision now. It's been good, but its time to make a decision and get on with things here."

  4. Excited to see how Jackie boy reacts to an unexpected loss. Will he not coast in his own zone??

Stayed home from work today to watch this game. First IIHL I'll be taking in, so I'm very excited. Thanks everyone for the updates throughout the tourney. I'll try to put some thoughts together and add to the convo.

  5. Thanks for sharing the video.

Can we stop with this incessant bickering about coast in D end v. conserving energy non-coast? It is like two obnoxious parents arguing about their parenting style. Nitpicking about whatever they can find in hopes of perfecting the kid (overbearing father) v. blindly accepting him as perfect (Momma's boy). And this after 3 games against pros.

Take it easy guys. And enjoy.

  6. Well considering we were talking about his defensive zone play, or at least I was, I am not really sure where you are going with this.

I'll say it again. Jack Eichel on several shifts in the defensive zone floated and was less aggressive towards the puck carrier.  Not a concern just an observation about his play.

not really.I assume you seen where I said something like a board scrum needs things to happen during play for it to come about. regardless of what happens in the game I can guarantee at least 4 faceoffs per game (assuming the game is not cancelled). If you cannot see the enhanced value of a 1 on 1 battle that you get to setup for all I have left is to shake my head in disbelief. If you are simply trying to say that faceoffs should not be seen as a holy grail stat I can agree with you, but you seem to be saying that faceoffs are no more important compared to other 1 on 1 battles and I am sorry but that is very very wrong.

    Great examples of self-absorption!!

  7. Then don't throw a temper tantrum when someone calls you on it.

This is a message board I'm sure of varying ages and levels of maturity. Surely, shut up does not deserve to be called out as untoward discourse. Further, the 2-person debate surrounding this does not deserve a full Board page.

  8. If you're wondering what he plays like without the puck or want a view of him that isn't just the same goals we keep seeing, here is his entire game in the WJC against Germany. It's a compilation of Eichel's shifts. The commentary guy is really annoying, so just mute him.

Not really sure what you're driving at here; I agree with everything you're saying, I'm just pointing out the transition from the NCAA to the NHL for rookies. Gaudreau put up similar numbers before he made the jump, so I thought it might give us a decent look at what Eichel's rookie season will be.

They definitely do play two vastly different games, and Eichel's is more suitable to the NHL level, so hopefully he eclipses Gaudrea's Calder Finalist year

Got it. Thanks for sharing the videos. My new porn.

I think that U17 6-5 shootout win against Canada emphasizes the truly exciting storyline here: Captain Canada v. Captain America. Another reason I was happy to see Edmonton win over Arizona. It has now solidified a true blockbuster rivalry that transcends both team and city. Buffalo is lucky to have such a huge share of the franchise. The NHL will be better for it, and USA youth hockey will be better for it. And we'll be at the center of it all.

  9. WyldnWoody brought it up in the Playoff thread: he asked who Johnny hockey was so when I was looking up a link to give him I noticed he spent last season in the NCAA playing for BC. It was his third season playing for BC, and he put up 36-44-80 in 40 games. He then went on to put up 24-40-64 in 80 gp in the NHL his rookie year (this year).

So, I think that sets a decent precedent for Eichel. Granted Gaudreau gets to have Monahan center him, I still think Eichel is capable of putting up better numbers than Gaudreua did, especially with Kane and Ennis as line-mates.

    Thoughts?

Hey IKP, if you're willing I'm really interested in what Gaudreau's NHLe was for his most recent BC season.

Gaudreau is not even close to the overall player Eich is. Ones a quick handed gnat, the others a physically dominating thoroughbred.

Also, Eich had 70 pts as an 18 year old to Johnny's 80 at 20. Big two years there.

  10. Agree, but WPG is very high bar to set especially considering this is their first playoff game in so many years. FN arena will be rocking Game 1 or 3 of our next playoff series.

Minnesota was also a fantastic crowd. The atmospheres have really been on display. I wouldn't put Buffalo in the group of WPG, MIN, MON, VAN, OTT, CGY, but we are very much in the second tier of mostly northern USA towns. We'll be rocking again, don't worry. It's just a shame the Sabres had the opportunity to lock in Buffalo in place of failing Bills and never truly delivered the big one.

But like I said, we'll be back with the DETs and BOSs soon enough.
