My quick $0.02 is that 2 years ago Granato got the most out of the skill sets if this roster. But they still were short of an NHL level squad, and well short of a quality playoff team.

Last year it was time for them to grow up and play like adults and they failed.

Under Lindy there is no running from failure. It’s Cozens job to be better. The roster doesn’t have much depth. So if Cozens (or anybody else) fails it’s on the player for not being up to snuff.

Also, the more I think about the staff sticking around because Lindy “didn’t know the squad” was a worse decision than it seemed at surface level. It gives these kids a whole staff to run and hide from the HC’s messaging.

When Quinn slots back in, I hope he plays with a sense of urgency and tries to be a man.

I would hope so but Georgiev has been better of late. Yes he gave up 3 against the Oilers and 4 against the Stars but before that he held Vegas to 1 goal. The goals against vs the Oilers and Stars were for the most part not on him. Avalanche have been kind of a mess for one reason or another. MacKinnon has not been finishing his chances but still skates like the wind. Makar is still awesome. 2 very tough games coming up for the Sabres.

I would’ve done that for Jiricek. The trouble is he fancies himself an offensive d-man as well and on the Sabres he’s not getting any PP time.

You are correct about the type of Dman they should be targeting.

Jiricek may turn out to be that guy. I would imagine he sees himself as a 1st pairing, PP Dman in the very near future and that would not happen in Buffalo.

A right handed Mule with 20% more skill and 50% more durability would be the ideal 4D. Along the lines of Pesce. Even an oldtimer like Teppo was would provide a lot.

Which is why I voted yes, they are in it and its there for the taking.

The Isles game will tell us a lot.  They have to pull together,

    1.   heavy game opponent on the road

    2.  2nd night of B2B

    3.  Reimer in goal.

A strong team would get carried by its best players.  Calling on Thompson and Dahlin to lead them to a W.

Islanders played last night as well, so there is an level playing field in that regard.

Sorokin should be in net for them so the Sabres don’t go vs a backup.

This will be a good test.

If only they had a way to measure how good a team is.   Maybe like awarding points for wins?
it's a Wild theory (see what I did there) but if I use wins and loses as a measuring stick they are 3rd best in the league.

I just feel that they are overachieving. They can’t be that good if the Sabres outplayed them and got nearly 40 shots.

I know what their record is, they do not look like a Cup contender to me.

  6. I disagree with comments that the Wild are a really good team. The Sabres outplayed them, by a good margin. Gustavsson is average but is having a good season and despite his shaky start to this one he found his groove and was solid.

They have a good record but are not a powerhouse by any means. This same team did not make the playoffs last year in a weak western conference.

It was a game the Sabres should have won, making it frustrating for us.

    Carry on.
