  1. Sell Stafford, Stewart, and mezaros at the deadline for whatever you can get for them. I'd expect a 2nd, a 2nd and a 4th but I'd take a bag of pucks and retain half the salary. Come summer time resign Stafford or Stewart if you feel like you want to. (remember Moulson?) if said it once, and I'll say it again. We have a bottom 3 team, so sell whomever you have to to finish last, as long as it's not hurting our future.(players noted above fit the bill). This year will be exciting only on the development side of things.

Personally, I get all warm and fuzzy inside thinking about it. Maybe it's a little premature, but it's going to be cool to say in 5 years when we are SERIOUS competitors that we got to see it before blossom before our very eyes. I'll watch another season of losing, I'll watch 3 if I have to. I know the day will come. The day I say to my friends, that's why I'm a buffalo fan. I'll say it with pride too. Our fan base is going to quadruple in the coming years, much like Chicago. We however, will be able to say we believed when nobody else did

  2. I think that there is a decent chance that the kid makes the sabres this season. Going on a gut feeling(same one that said Mtl over Boston this year). Call me crazy, call me stupid, but come October I'll be hoping to get a chance to say told you so.

  3. Hey guys,

I'm planning on doing a sabrespace regular season hockey pool. It will be just for bragging rights. I'm hoping to get a good turn out so don't be shy. Just reply saying you'd like to be a part of it.

I don't know the details yet, I'm hoping we get a decent amount of guys. It will be a goals/assists only pool, possibly a goalie with points for wins and shutouts.

Anyways it won't be started until we get closer to the season. If you want to be in let me know ASAP so I can get this thing organized

A player may be placed in the AHL if he will turn 20 before December 31 that season. He need not lose junior eligibility first. Just wanted to clarify.

Right you are! Thanks for the clarification

  5. I would really like to see him in a sabres jersey this season. While I think he is ready talent wise, I'm a little worried he might not be big enough to defend himself quite yet. I could see it being a Drouin like scenario. I know he's shorter but at 6'1 I'd like to see him at 200 not 180. That being said, he's smart so maybe that will come into play. Hopefully we get to see him play some heavy minutes in exhibition.

  6. Ott, Moulson, Halak/Neuvirth, Gorges and Stewart are NHL players.

More to your point, teams have rebuilt trading NHL players for picks and prospects numerous times over the years, but never as deliberately and quickly as this.

Call it what you want, it's calculated and its within the rules and it aimed at a Stanley Cup.

It's nice to at least be able to see the plan and agree with the end game.

    Well said, I completely agree

Most posters understand the players and coaches don't tank. Front offices do.

Yes,  and no posters understand that there is a difference between a rebuild,  and a tank. If there wasn't a generational talent available,  would we be tanking?  Would we be doing a speedy rebuild? It's not like we have a ton of talent that the front office is telling to lose games,  or playing a strategy you can't win with.  This is a rebuild,  not a tank. There's a fine line. Has Edmonton been tanking for years?  Has Florida been tanking for years? When your GM openly States that you will be rebuilding through the draft,  and to prepare For "suffering“ that is was clear what our plan was,  sell anyone of value and start over,  a fresh start with a new look.

The definition of tanking in sports is to “deliberately lose or fail to finish a game"

Other then trade away most of the team,  what has management done, that is outside of the rules(written and or unwritten) to deliberately lose?

  8.

They were trying to win last season too. Well, the players were, minus Ehrhoff.

Inkman, I must say, I am very disappointed in you... How can you forget to mention Leno! Concur with your statement though.

  9. Here is a scenario, that I believe to be very likely. I'm hoping that most of you will be happy with it, if not, please respond so I can post your name in "things I give zero fU©ks about“. Last part was a joke, laugh a little you uptight a§§HOLE!

Contrary to what I believe to be as 60% of this boards opinion, the Buffalo Sabres will not tank this season! They will come out every game skating like they want to win! Thanks Nolan! Fortunately though, we will still finish last place. Thanks Darcy and Murray, well mostly Darcy. The fact of the matter is, that we are, in my opinion, icing the worst team in the NHL. Yes we have a ton of talent, just undeveloped at this point.

If I take all my material wealth and bet against Calgary to win the cup.....I can buy a round of beers at the Pink.

Weird! I had the same idea, except I was going to bet on buffalo! Gionta pushed us over the top! Round on me next June boys... And girl

  11. Team Odds

    Chicago Blackhawks 7/1

    Los Angeles Kings 9/1

    Boston Bruins 10/1

    Anaheim Ducks 12/1

    Pittsburgh Penguins 12/1

    St. Louis Blues 12/1

    San Jose Sharks 14/1

    New York Rangers 16/1

    Colorado Avalanche 18/1

    Dallas Stars 18/1

    Minnesota Wild 18/1

    Tampa Bay Lightning 18/1

    Montreal Canadiens 20/1

    Detroit Red Wings 22/1

    Philadelphia Flyers 28/1

    Vancouver Canucks 28/1

    Columbus Blue Jackets 33/1

    Toronto Maple Leafs 33/1

    Washington Capitals 40/1

    Edmonton Oilers 50/1

    New Jersey Devils 50/1

    New York Islanders 50/1

    Ottawa Senators 50/1

    Arizona Coyotes 50/1

    Winnipeg Jets 50/1

    Carolina Hurricanes 66/1

    Nashville Predators 66/1

    Buffalo Sabres 75/1

    Calgary Flames 75/1

    Florida Panthers 75/1

Odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2015. Sabres projected to be in the bottom 3 along with Calgary and Florida. New York Islanders are projected to be between 6-11th. I like those odds, and I think I'll like them even more near the midpoint of the season!

  12.

    tanking/losing

    How's that ?

I jest. I think anything less than 1 or 2 in the draft makes this losing a waste of time. In a perfect world we get both.

That's what I mean, say we do get first, then I don't think we're tanking. From that point on the moves we make are to WIN hockey games. In 3 years the rebuild won't be over, we will still be losing, but we wont be tanking.
