I simply don’t buy this approach.

Show me a great goalscorer in this league, and I’ll show you one or more great passers. True then, true now.

The great scorers finish. That’s what they do. Others miss open nets, or hit the bar, or just put it right in the goalies chest.

But very very few goalscorers can shine playing, with third liners or worse.

I’m as annoyed by Skinner as the next guy, but to think pure goalscorers should create their own offense, is foolish IMO. Ovies are few and far between, and even they need someone to set them up half the time.

You find a guy who can consistently finish, you make sure he gets set up as often as humanly possible. 40-goal scorers don’t grow on trees, but guys who miss open nets, hits posts or chestplates, do.

Sabres fans, of all people, should know this.

Patrick Kane. Conor McDavid, Leon Draisatl, Nate MacKinnon, Sydney Crosby Jack Eichel.  I'll wait

    Dude.

There is NFW that Reino is the sweetener to get someone to take KO.  That's a draft pick, or a prospect, or taking the other team's bad contract.

As others have said, Reino is only going to be traded, and should only be traded, as part of a package to bring back an indisputable star.

I've noticed a discouraged petulance in Eichel's game lately.  I'm sure he's PO'd about yet another season down the tubes, but still.  The captain can't behave this way.

Yeah a discouraged petulance. 2 points, Sabres score three, 2 primary assists and we win 3 -2.  Ill take 45 games a year like that. Sign me up.

I'd like to see his face Photoshopped into the bathroom door scene from The Shining.

You and Dan should have a beer or two and talk about Jack winning the race to the dot.

I have it on good authority that SwampD is currently on vaca in the Arctic Circle and has no Internet. What you saw tonight was The Best of SwampD. Just classic, classic stuff. I don't know who's more consistent over many years, him or Bernie Sanders.

Other than circling all the Rangers on the ice, what was the point of that?

It's hard enough to score 5 on 5.  6 on 5 is really hard.

Not sure where to put this and it doesn’t deserve its own thread.

Figured here works, since it was presented in the context of an Athletic article about Sabres UFAs on the eve of the deadline.

“ Since 2013-14, there have been 32 Sabres who never saw NHL rinks again after their contract expired. Players such as Andrej Meszaros, Benoit Pouliot, Victor Antipin, Jacob Josefson, Matt D’Agostini and Linus Omark.”

Dont expect much return for our guys. Scandella was probably the best trade trip of the lot and he got a 4th.

It is almost like a disease.

I don't pay a lot of attention to them - was it Kim that hired Jason?

Kim holds the title of President of both the Bills and Sabres.  Terry is technically not an executive in any manner of PSE. As to the hire I believe it pre-dated the firing of Brandon and the announcement of Kim ascending to her new role.

Ralph doesn't need to be a HOCKEY czar. He just needs to be a leader of an organization, establishing the tone, making sure things run smoothly, and making sure his GM and coach and players are doing their jobs well. He can do this without specifically being well-versed in the Florida Panthers' potential trade chips, and the hottest new coaching trends etc. I have no doubt he's capable of doing this job, which is by default Terry Pegula's right now, a helluva lot better than Terry does. He's been in sports management his whole life.

Kim's not Terry's.  But I agree with the sentiment.

  7. Tampa’s team friendly deals have more to do with the ntc and nmc contracts they give out.  Players are likely factor in stability and ability to control their living situation in their calculus of fair compensation. They take less if they know they will not be traded to say Buffalo from Tampa.

Blues model is like Bruins and Washington.  A few stars, a few skill guys, a stud goalie, and a majority of really hard working bangers.

Lol.  Ovi, Backstrum, Kuznetsov, Oshie, Vrana, Carlson, Wilson and two stud goalies.  Pasta, Bergeron, Marchand Krecji, McAvoy, Charra, Debrusk, Coyle and two stud goalies. They win because they have better players across the board.  All the hard work in the world won’t overcome a talent deficit the size the Sabres face night in and night out.  It is like watching the Polish cavalry gallantly rushing to slaughter against the Nazi blitzkrieg.

Think deeper.  The problems of the Sabres STILL date back to before Botterill.  You can assume that there were moves out there that could have been made that would have helped this team.  You may be right.  The Sabres might have been slightly better this year.

Then the expansion draft of 2021 would hit and the Sabres would not be able to protect enough players.  Their prospect pool would be crap because they likely had to give up picks and players to get those better players and in 2022 the Sabres might be back to complete suckitude.

That said, the injury to MoJo is big... he improves the lineup.  The depth isn't there for the Sabres.. we knew that.  Injuries will kill the team.  They have plenty of them.

They will lose 1, I repeat 1 player.  Based on the options and the sad state of affairs it will not be that great of loss and no prospects or picks are needed to protect 1 player.  I hate this argument.  Every team will lose a good player, it is how the system was designed and why the expansion teams forked over big dough to play.

There is almost no chance of this.   None.  When was the last time a GM trade for a player (with term) and then shipped out after 3 months?  I’m guessing maybe never.  I see Ristolainen, McCabe, Scandella, and Bogo traded this season, but not Miller.  Miller actually should get a chance on the second PP after Risto gets traded.   Put two defense and only three forwards.   Miller has an above average point shot and Mountour can skate and pass better than most on the second grouping.   Makes no sense to try and have them set up the same way the first grouping does.  Change the strategy to fit the players on the ice.

I like the thinking of a different set up.  I would rather have Joker though as he has a knack for getting shots through traffic better than Miller.

Botteril should not do this for a rental

Meh.  It worked w Skinner.  Kings fans I know seem to think he will get at least what Johansen got lsst year.  2nd and a 4th.  Very similar production so I can see the ask.

    Risto, Mittelstadt for Rakell
Rodrigues and a 3rd for Toffoli

    Skinner - Eichel - Toffoli/Vesey
    Olofsson - Rakell - Reinhart
    Sheary - Johansson - Vesey/Toffoli
    Girgensons - Larsson - Okposo

    Dahlin - Montour
    Scandella - Jokiharju
    McCabe - Miller
    Bogo, Pilut, Borgen

I think LA says keep Erod and asks for Samuelson or Borgen.
