  1. I don't really get the reason for the delay. If I was him I'd look at the Amerks and want to be part of their playoff run, and I'd look at the Sabres and think I could crack that roster within 2 years.

I can only assume he thinks he's good enough to play in the NHL next year, and is trying to consider if some other teams out there will give him that chance.

I'm not losing sleep over it though. I'd like him to sign and play in the AHL next year. We need more defensive depth/prospect, but it's more his loss than ours if he walks.

  2. I will be a lot more surprised if KA doesn't bring in a middle 6 defenseman to play with Power who can play top minutes with Dahlin if/when Mule gets hurt. Then he might bring in another vet depending on what he does with Stillman/Clague/Bryson.

As to goalie, I fear he may stick with some form of what we have. However the fact that neither Comrie nor UPL had a game down the stretch when we were still in the hunt is telling. He may hope UPL can continue to develop though. But UPL isn't his prospect, Levi is.

I don't think him trading UPL is out of the question, but will it be for a Vet Goalie who can compliment Levi depending on how well he's playing (more games if he's struggling/needs more time). I could see him hoping Comrie just had bad luck with injury and bad defensive play. I hope not though.

At this point I'd bring Girgenson back on the same deal he's on, and move on from Okposo if he's not already planning to retire. That means we need to add some additional 4th line/PK/Sandpaper guy to take his spot.

I'm expecting him to make a few moves either way, but they may not be as big/flashy as some fans would like. He's definitely going to still stick to his plan of developing in-house talent over free agents. But he's also show he's willing to bring in the right guys from a trade (see: Tuch), so I don't think it would be unreasonable to see him move some forwards/prospects for the "right" trade.

It will really depend on what he can get this offseason and if he thinks the price is worth it though. Moving on from Eichel was the right thing for all parties, and I doubt anyone expected Tuch to be as good as he's been. I think they were banking more on Krebs developing into a solid middle 6 player and Tuch was more of a stop gap/ until that happened/additional value for losing Eichel. But that's just total speculation on my part.

  3. Since the stakes are low at this point, I'll probably just put it on the background. I hope Anderson gets a nice send-off.

It's been a fun season, even with the disappointing outcome. My expectations were just in or just out of the playoffs this year, so they hit on that. Next year it's playoffs or bust.

Hopefully they can use these last 2 games to take some momentum into next year. I want them mad/determined to do better next year, and not wallowing in doubts.

... for the last two years!

I didn't do ESPN+ last year. I still had Center Ice like a fossil. I didn't like that there wasn't a hide spoilers or start from beginning option like NHL.tv had. Thankfully they added both features.

You'd think they would have figured out something else to do. Center ice just showed that day's schedule with ***** music. Far superior to the ESPN+ ad. If anything that ad makes me look forward to when I can cancel my ESPN for the offseason

Does Levi need mentoring?  I mean this man is focused, and mature beyond his age.

Ironically maybe it Levi's preperation andgameday rituals that actually mentors UPL and Cromrie?

I'm pretty sure I read one of the things that appealed to Levi about getting here was spending time with Anderson. So while he may be focused and mature, I think (hope?) he realizes he's always got things to learn/ways to improve his game.

    My impression as well.

Also for those of you who wonder about DG ability to switch from development to winning, he spoke very seriously about how they are trying to win and no one is getting development time right now. This was in regards partially to Levi getting time and DG basically said he is in there because he wins. He also talked about how in March the team mentally slipped and it was the coaches responsibility to help them fix that. Talked about how the team focused on what they were bad at instead of what they did well. It resulted in them focusing on the stuff they didn't do well instead of playing in ways that helped them succeed. One Don's more interesting and illuminating interviews.

I think our path is Florida losing to Canes and Sabes sweeping all 3

We would still need the Isles or Pens to drop at least 1 point for that work I think, but I agree.

Isles can still finish with 93 (and would beat us on tie breakers)

Pens can finish with 94. I think we could beat them with 93 if we win our remaining games in regulation and they don't win in regulation, but I'm not sure. Winning in a shoot-out last night was better than losing, but not winning in Regulation or Overtime last night is going to hurt us if it comes down to ties.

  8. I can't say I know much about Johnson as I don't follow a lot of college, but I see little value in signing him to play anywhere but the AHL right now and probably next year. I'm all for giving him a chance to make the team next year, but as it stands for this year, I think we roll with what we have.

What I really want is a veteran defensive player to pair with Powers and move Joki down with Labushkin.

So I don't see Johnson factoring in just yet. It's always good to have more depth, especially from a more defensive defenseman that Johnson sounds to be. It'd be nice to get him signed soon, but I won't lose sleep over him walking away. Honestly I think it'd be his loss if he does.

  9. I believe at this point if we lose a game, we're eliminated. Also if both the Islanders and the Panthers win tonight, we're eliminated regardless of the outcome. They both have 91 points. That would put them at 93, which is our max. However both have more regulation wins (Panthers: 36, Islanders: 35) than we can earn at this point even if we win out in regulation.

Panthers are at home against Toronto tonight, so we at least have a shot of living another day, but it's razor thin. They play their final game at home against Carolina on Thursday, so it's possible they could lose out. If that happens then we have to worry about Pittsburgh getting to 94 points (currently at 90). If they get 3 or less, we have a shot.

Islanders play at a Caps team that is likely still without Ovi, has already been eliminated and is on a 4 game losing streak. They finish up at home against Montreal on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh is at home against Chicago on Tuesday and on the road against Columbus on Thursday. Not likely they'll drop a point, but if they do, they'd only have 31 or 32 regulation wins. We are at 29 regulation wins so we can max out at 33, which would have us ahead of them.

Either way must win. Let's go boys.

Play Levi.  Play Tage if he can go.   Try to win.  They are not eliminated.  Fight to the end!

Agreed. Until we're officially eliminated I'd play Levi. If we're eliminated then we need to work on building the confidence with UPL or Comrie (or both) depending on the team's plans for next year.

Next week we have 2 back to backs, so one or both of them can play next week. Or maybe Anderson if he's healthy by Ottawa.

It's not enough to have 1 goalie anymore. We need 2. Ideally that would be UPL since he's younger, but I don't care which. This also assumes Levi can keep up his high level of play and makes the team next year, but it sure looks that way right now.
