  1. EJ Manuel's injury was unnecessary and dumb. He had the 1st down by a comfortable margin - but he tried running for more and paid the price. The guy's on-field intelligence is not impressive. Kind of reminds me of another guy with the same number of letters in his name - JP Losman.

  2. Bob Mathews, long time sports caster on WHAM1180 in Rochester, has been very critical of Buddy Nix's leaping onto the EJ Manuel bandwagon since the day of the draft. I'd say that Bob's early and continuing criticisms remain spot-on. Even in victory on Sunday, Manuel's passer rating was a BRUTAL 48! I saw the game - he made JP Losman look poised and confident in comparison.

Yeah he's a rookie, but there are other rookie QBs this year who look better already. The team won in spite of being handicapped by EJ Manuel. The bad news - Spiller is out, and Freddie Jackson looked hurt as well - those guys aren't going to survive the season taking up the slack on the ground for Manuel and the lack of effective passing offense.

  3. Well, that was an ugly game. Manuel ended up with a dismal 71.8 passer rating in a game that the Jets tried MIGHTILY to give to the Bills to win, via terrible game play. Geno Smith threw 2 picks, and the Jets amassed a whopping 20 penalties for 168 yards. And yet still the Bills managed to lose.

The same problems that have plagued the Buffalo Bills franchise for years now, were still evident in today's loss

-Red-zone futility - 0 for 3 in the Red Zone. Bills had to settle again and again for field goals instead of touchdowns. Gave me a feeling of Deja Vu watching - where have I seen this before? Hmm?

    - Poor to non-existent run defense - the Bills gave up a huge 182 yds rushing to the Jets.

    - Sieve-like offensive line and inability to protect the passer; Manuel was sacked EIGHT times today - amazing that he didn't end up injured, or fumbling. His ball security is commendatory. Even when not sacked, most of the time he was scrambling to avoid the sack. He's not going to remain uninjured for long if the line lets him get sacked this many times in a game.

    - poor passing - as mentioned before, Manuel had a poor 71.8 passer rating today. While no quarterback is going to be at their best with such pressure from the Jets defense, when he did throw downfield, the throws just looked bad - they floated, and were usually uncatchable - a yard or two out of bounds. It's only his third game, I'm just not seeing the glimmers that he's going to be a true "franchise quarterback"

    - time of possession disparity - the Jets had the ball almost 10 minutes longer than the Bills, even with all those penalties. All that rushing yardage, and the Bills not able to make stops when they needed to

    - poor pass defense - Number 26 - nothing more really needs to be said

    - lack of depth - some injuries and the offense gets even worse - despite all the gift-wrapped penalty yardage from the Jets.

    - receivers that can't get open - The poor passing today was not all on Manuel's play or the offensive line's poor pass protection - a bunch of times on replay, there were no receivers open for Manuel to throw to.

Only 3 game into the season, and they're already 0-2 in the division, and at the bottom of the AL East. Is this team ever going anywhere with Ralph Wilson Jr as the owner, and a bean-counter/marketing guy like Russ Brandon calling the shots?

  4. Knee procedure? Ouch! He could be done for a lot longer than the pre-season. The regular season starts in about 3 weeks.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Buffalo, preeee-senting your Franchise QB. LOLOLOL!!!!!

You know, I watched that first pre-season Bills game - and I was very impressed with Manuel..... it seemed too good to be true for the Bills to have a REAL quarterback after 10 years of friggin' SCRUBS..... Rob Johnson, JP Loseman, Trent Edwards, Ryan Blitzpatrick..... and where are they now? LOLOL

At any rate - it seemed too good to be true -and it WAS too good to be true. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my best friends is a hardcore Bills fan - he was so happy after that first pre-season game- can't wait to rib him about Manuel. :)

  5. I think stafford is going to have a bounceback year and I hope he plays out his contract with us, and then we get him on a more reasonable contract next time around :)

I hope we have world peace, and that we find the secret to faster than light travel. .

  6. M&T Bank...F*** you! My ATM card cracked right through the magnetic strip two days ago, I am heading out of town on Sunday for 9 days, and asked if they could mail me a new card within a couple of days. They said sure we can...for $25! I had to have a temper tantrum with 3 different reps(escalated), and threaten to pull all my business out of M&T before they agreed to waive the charge.

They couldn't just agree to do it due to the extenuating circumstances, and instead, I had to yell and scream in order for them to agree to waive the charge?

A$$holes are paying little interest on savings accounts, but charging major interest on loans and credit cards, and still want to stick it up my a$$ over a replacement ATM card that would have to be shipped "2 day"?

I may still pull my business away from them when I get back from my trip.

And then you can go to another bank that will treat you like ###### in a different way. :) Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

General rule of thumb, banks suck.

Actually, Pegula wasn't effectively articulating very much in his Interview the other day.

Well, he did articulate a couple things well. The fact that it's his team, and he'll do with it what he pleases, came thru crystal clear on my receiver. :) Oh, and that decisions are apparently made by committee - our government has used this strategy quite effectively for decades to ensure waste and inefficiency. :)

EDIT - PS, many elementary schools finished yesterday - all WNY schools should be done by tomorrow (Friday).

  7. Is it fair for you and I to rip Darcy for that contract? We both supported it at the time, even though it's obviously a terrible contract.

I would *hope* the professional GM of an NHL team, making millions of dollars, might be able to make wiser, more insightful decisions than we fans spending a few minutes per day chatting about hockey on a message board.

EDIT - I have never, to the best of my knowledge, supported Stafford.

  8. His support for Regier didn't seem *that* solid. He must have expected that Regier would have been the first topic of discussion - but he was hesitant, stumbled for words, etc.... He couldn't seem to point to any highlights of Regier's actual performance that make Darcy the man for the job.

I have the feeling Regier is on very thin ice - only slightly thicker than the ice that Ruff was standing upon in February.

  9. Just got a text from WGR...Whaley officially announced as GM, as if there was still any question of that.

The 3 year cycle officially starts TODAY.

May 16th, 2016 - Bills announce their new GM, and tell the fans they're really extra serious about rebuilding this time!

  10. Nice to see Regehr enjoying some success. Kings must think he's a good asset for the D - he's played every game, and been averaging 21 minutes of ice time per game in the post season so far.

  11. There's probably three times when the chances he could be moved would be higher: before/at the draft, within a week or two after July 1, and immediately before training camp/season. If you move him at the draft, you get draft picks (I like this). If you move him after July 1, you're selling him to someone who couldn't sign UFAs. If you move him before the season, you're selling to someone who couldn't sign UFAs and is now desparate.

The problem is that IF Regier thinks Stafford is viable as a top six forward (he may not think this), then he might hold onto him until he knows he has something better, and that would be after signing UFAs on July 1. But I believe that if he waits, the teams looking for what Stafford brings may sign UFAs first, reducing demand for Stafford.

The second problem is that every GM is aware of the first problem, and may just wait until after July 1 anyways.

I believe Darcy's been trying to trade Stafford, but he's not finding the right deals. I hope he finds the right deal, maybe any deal, before the draft.

The Trade Value thread puts Stafford at an average return of about a 2nd and a 3rd. I think this declines a little after the draft.

I was just checking stats - in plus minus, Stafford ranks almost at the very bottom - 722 out of 730 offensive players in the entire league. And only 6 goals in 46 games - that's abysmal for a guy pulling down the salary he does.

Maybe Regier should just consider it cutting his losses and trade him for a loss? Who cares??? Yeah, it's a great ego-stroking thing for Darcy to say he got this great trade, and he robbed another team or whatever. But the OVER-ARCHING goal is to build a winning team! The owner of the team - the guy writing the checks - has said HIS over-arching goal is to build a winning team.

And you're not gonna do it with dead-wood like Stafford on the roster. Get him out of there! Regier shouldn't just sit there dreaming wistfully of a pot o' gold in return for Stafford - cut him loose, and start to mend the team!

  12. Buddy Nix steps down as GM, moving to an advisory position.

Ahhh, good. The latest 3 year (or so) cycle of the Bills first hiring, and then discarding sub-standard coaches and GMs has at last completed itself. New GM/Coach about when? 2016? 2017? Will they still be 'rebuilding' then?

  13. So when can we reasonably expect Stafford to go? - July? It's been a month since the last post in this topic and he's still on the roster - he's like a stubborn dose of clap that's hard to treat. I'll probably do an Irish Jig as soon as I get the text from WGR stating that he's gone.
