  1. I don't understand the re-call of Makarov.

Let's face it the Amerks are in the playoff hunt. The Sabres have a game that is not important at all.

Let Makarov play for the Amerks and give Vinz that backup job again. What could happen...

    a) Nothing. Knapp plays the game and Vinz is not needed

    b) Knapp gets hurt and Vinz has to play.

Who cares if b) happens. This game is not important whatsoever. From a Sabres standpoint it should be way more important at the moment that the Amerks make the playoffs and that the Sabres prospects grow in a playoff series than having a backup goaltender who really is a goaltender.

I know I am probably the only one with the opinion but hell right now it doesn't matter if the Sabres win tonight or not.

  2. As long as I see progress I am not concerned. As of now I see progress in Larsson's game. I see progress in Girgensons game all year long. Ristolainen looks better...

What I hope now is that the Amerks make the playoffs so that Grigorenko,Larsson,Adam,Ristolainen and all the other guys get a chance to make a run in the playoffs.

  3. I disagree...

The end of this fight doesn't show why those fights should be banned.

I am pretty sure both didnt go into the fight thinking well at the end we gonna high5 and everything is ok. It was a long an tough fight and over this fight both realised ...man that dude has balls... It was a spontaneous reaction nothing planed.

  4. I think if ever the chances are better for Moulson because I think he is more likely a rental player than Ott.

You can argue it in both ways.

    a) players will always say they like it here

    b) players will also always say they are happy and excited to be traded to this new team.

Whatever is true we dont know. Maybe both but I think the chances for Moulson are maybe 35% for Ott maybe 10% that they will sign here in the summer. Ted Nolan could really become a factor and whoever we draft in the 2014 draft.

  5. I can't get myself to this place. Just because someone makes a bunch of jack doesn't get them Mensa status. If someone wants to lay it all out for me, I'm all ears but until then I'm leaning toward Terry being a right place at the right time kinda rich guy.

His actions have spoke volumes louder than his words and his brief track record with the Sabres is near god awful.

    Amen!

All this Pegula hate sounds a lot like the cheap way out to me.

  6. Actually I like what has happened in the past few days. If this all happened because of Tim Murray, then I gotta say I love this guy!

It always occured to me that the Sabres used to be a franchise holding on to things for way too long. For example certain players. "Well he is not that good at the moment but he did so much for us we can't really let him go and trade him, right!?"

If Tim Murray walked in and said: "Enough with this, trade him, get assets, trade him, get assets and move on do this and we are starting fresh", then this is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Sabres.

If that's what people call dysfunctional, then I love dysfunctional. It is about time, that someone from the outside walks in, looks at everything and says... "guys don't hold on to these memories because you are blocking your own process of getting better."

  7. I think Pat was just there as a "good feeling guy"... Sabres needed one to fill a hole while there was no GM so they had him in a position that made everyone feel better. Imagine a team with a GM or leader for a few months. So now that they have a GM actually there is no need for Pat anymore. Let's be serious this president of hockey operations role always seemed to be like a "representing the team without having any word on anything". You just put a guy who used to play for you in a role for the media and stuff.

  8. Here we go again,

after this blockbuster trade yesterday I changed the WP I wanted to come up with. First I had the plan to put one on it who will not get traded. Problem is, I couldnt be a 100% sure who could remain a Sabres player past wednesday so I decided to honour the 2 guys who were traded for their effort over the past few years. Hope you still can look at it for a month, despite both being traded. The other option would have been a John Scott wallpaper ;)

    Take care!

  9. If the Sabres lose the aforementioned UFAs, they could get a boost and still be by far the worst team in the league ;)

Yeah but you never know. Young players make giant steps from time to time.

One rookie is highly unlikely to make that big of a difference. Also, this is where the "McDavid/Eichel can't be the plan" theory is true. You don't draft a lesser talent or the guy that isn't as much of a fit so you can be worse. You don't suck for an entire season just to suck more. You make the best pick, and, if you want to be in the bottom again next year, you manipulate other parts of the roster.

In the past some teams just need one rookie to get a boost. I am talking of finishing 25 or 24th instead of dead last in case of "boost" not cup run or even playoffs.

Are you saying that if they draft a forward they will automatically start winning?

see above. There would be a better to chance to not finish last.

And what if Reinhart is a Toews type player, is it suddenly okay to pass on that opportunity? Barring a trade of several of our D or D prospects, drafting a forward is the only choice.

This might sound odd but players like Jonathan Toews come around more often than players like Shea Weber.

    ______

I would indeed take Ekblad as it looks like next years drafter will be even deeper when it comes to forwards than this year.

  10. If Ekblad is a Shea Weber type of player ... you better pick him...

It would mean another year of tanking next year but I can take that if that means another year of development for

Ekblad, Zadorov, Ristolainen, Pysyk ... add Myers and Ehrhoff and you have a great Top 6 on D. And at least 5 of them could build the back end for years...

  11. I don't think Reinhart or Bennett is good enough to have an appreciable effect on the Sabres record as a rookie, especially if we lose Miller, Moulson, and Ott. For reference, Crosby put up 102 as a rookie and Pittsburgh still managed a putrid 58 point season.

yeah I see that point. However the #Sabres will have a bunch of young players who will have made steps forward next year so I think Reinhart/Bennett maybe could be a factor that gives them a boost.

  12. I kinda changed my mind.

    Let's pick Ekblad..

I know what everyone thinks... NO WE NEED SCORING!!!

my answer: yes we do but let's pick a great player, play him and still be bad next year for McDavid. Because if they pick Reinhart or Bennett its likely that they won't be the worst team in the league. They still won't make the playoffs but probably finish around 20th-25th

  13. Just a stupid question from someone ignorant to Womens hockey, they are penalized for body checking? I am at the end of the first period (God bless DVR), quite physical period at that and USA just got a penalty for what looked like a good clean hit?! Could someone please set me straight?

Bodychecks not allowed in womens hockey
