  1. We were in Rochester this past weekend for the Rochester Presidential Power Play hockey tourney at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex. Pretty much our entire association was there - six teams, 70+ players - and most staying at he same hotel in Brighton. A stomach bug tore through our hotel - my wife got it while we were there, my son and I both started showing signs of it Sunday to Monday, and Monday night, after getting back to Ohio, he and I both got sick.

Two days of running to the bathroom, kid had to go to Express Care because he wouldn't stop vomiting and was in danger of dehydration (Zofran finally stopped that) and I had to go to Express Care yesterday to get a doctor's note for work. Still nauseous, still afraid to put anything solid on our stomachs.

So we put it out on Facebook and find out that a bunch of kids throughout our association - who were at the tourney - are all sick. Association ends up cancelling practices and sending out emails telling parents to keep kids home if sick. All with playoffs starting this weekend.

Just a long, ugly, painful weekend/week.

  2. Can someone explain to me why I had to go way out of my way to even find the National Championship Semifinal of College Football?

ESPN at 3:10 pm on New Years Eve?

Thankfully they are supposed to move them off NYE, starting in 2018.

Clemson destroyed THE Ohio state and that was awesome.... Maybe the game In Tampa will be worth watching... I like Bama, but I don't think they win this year, and I'm ok with it, because Clemson is pretty entertaining.

As a card-carrying member of the "love watching sad Urban get destroyed" club, I enjoyed the beating Clemson put on OSU (not to mention being stuck in Buckeye territory).

That being said, the two other "irrelevant" NY6 games - FSU-Michigan and USC-Penn State - were much better games and more entertaining than the CFB semifinals.

  3. Hey everyone -

I'm looking for a cheap replica Amerks jersey for my kid to use as a practice jersey during his goalie clinics and practices.  Really looking for a royal blue jersey, silkscreened logo, blank on back, in size men's small or medium. Not looking to break the bank - the cheapest I've seen is around $50 and that's more than I want to pay for something he's going to wear for practices. Hoping someone's got an old one from a stadium giveaway or something their kid has outgrown, etc. - preferably in the $25-30 range.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Cool helmet. You must be really proud.

Thanks.  Definitely proud.  I never played ice growing up, so to watch what he can do at a young age impresses the hell out of me. He's got that mentality that he wants to stop every puck and doesn't like giving up goals.

I was so happy to see him get his first SO last week.  Going back to last year he's had four shutouts lost in the final three minutes of the game. Two were fluke goals going in off his teammates' skates or sticks. He was getting a little frustrated lol

Helmet was a gift from grandma last Christmas.  Being a Star Wars geek I was stoked to see it - this is the Boba Fett design.  I tried to talk him into Vader but no dice.  Can't complain about Fett tho.

  5. Heya BM. Is that the kid in the avatar? If so he's getting big! We don't see enough of you around here. You are one of the lucky ones. You got out.

It is the kid.  He switched to goalie last year and split the season with another kid - alternating games in net and on defense. He's moved up to Squirt early and is playing full-time between the pipes.  He got his first ever shutout last weekend then got another on Saturday in a 3v3 cross-ice tourney.

  6. My two cents...I've been to Columbus, Carolina and Tampa (although those were a while back and/or special circumstances - ECF Game 6 vs Canes, and in 2005 for the Lightning following a job fair at the arena).

I've been to Columbus a few times - once for Sabres game and a couple other teams.  Ironically (or not) the Sabres game had the best atmosphere, because there were so many Sabres fans there.  Other than that the Columbus atmosphere was fun and better than Buffalo, but nothing special or over-the-top that puts Buffalo to shame.

I agree about pricing out the "average" fans, and we're starting to see that here in Cleveland with the Lake Erie Monsters.  Ticket prices have gone up slightly, some of the special ticket and food/concessions offers have gone away or gone up, and the benefits have been pushed upwards into higher STH packages.

And with the cost of tickets in Buffalo, the only way we can afford a game (when we're in town) is through the secondary market.

  7. Lots and lots of bugs Iv been encountering, some worse than others, but overall I really like Windows 10.

Same here.  Had an issue last night with the Wifi adapter not working. Had to disable then re-enable.  There's a diagnostic tool to fix the issue that I'm going to try tonight for a "permanent" fix.

  8. Thaat does make sense, however, I'd still keep whatever Freddy has over Bryce "butterfingers" Brown

Not cool with FJax getting cut and keeping Bryce "and the ball comes loose!!" Brown.

Meaning that the team kept wasting high-round picks on RBs when they had a perfectly capable one on hand?

Lynch, Spiller, McGahee....don't worry about the lines. Or QB.  Keep grabbing RBs in round 1.

I'm not sure he's right, but if he is, I hope it's Cassel who is gone.  There's just no need to play it safe.

    Same here.

  9. Just no Cassel.  Please.  Cassel gets this team to 8-8.  One of the others could go 12-4, could go 4-12.  I'd rather this team go for it and miss than settle for another season of mediocrity.

Agreed.  I'm not excited about another version of Trent Edwards.

I would have guessed that all 4 qbs had a perfect rating. Anyway, at this point I kind of like the idea of Manuel getting another year on the bench to grow. Give what he should have had two years ago.

I was really impressed with him yesterday. Looked totally different than what we've seen in the past.

I think if they get 3200-18-10 out of TT, plus his rushing production, and they make the playoffs with him playing creditably, they will not bring in another QB.

    Yep.

    Not Snyder!

  10. Wolfy Jr. is a goalie now?  Sweet.

Welcome back.  According to the posts tab in your profile, it's been since 2013 since you last posted?

Thank you sir. Yeah, it's been a while.

Yes, the not-so-little guy is a goalie now. He started jumping between the pipes during scrimmages and fell in love with it.  He also fell out of love with being a skater after a rough game where he was targeted (for lack of a better term) by a player on the opposing team. He stood up for himself but he was done as a forward.  He still skates out on D occasionally but he's a full-time goalie this year.

    Wolfie!

    Hello!

    I'm quite intrigued by you.

    :flirt:

    Rawr.

    Welcome back Wolf!

Hopefully the anticipated resurgence will prompt more happy returns...

    Thanks n!

Welcome back Wolf.  I was literally just thinking about you while reading the 10th anniversary thread about 5 minutes ago.

    Thanks cd!

    Welcome back bmwolf!

Here's a little trivia question; scroll down for the answer.  How many QBs drafted in the top 10 since 1990 have won a Super Bowl?

The number is telling:  It is VERY HARD to find a quarterback in the draft.  Many, many more busts than hits.

Three.  Two of them are Mannings.  The other one is Dilfer.

    Thanks, 11.

I hope to be around more. Between the kid's hockey schedule and my work schedule (thanks to getting laid off in January and having to take a new position, I am now the not-so-proud owner of a 45-minute+ commute in each direction, so my work days are longer and more draining.  He also plays travel baseball so that ties us up quite a bit too.

  11. Anyone think the Bills could get Griffin for a second- or third-round pick?

    Anyone think that they should?

I think it could be a lower pick. I think the Skins want to wash their hands of him.

I don't know. I am quite intrigued by Taylor after last night.

Few things annoy me more than a lack of gym etiquette. In some sense, those guys are announcing to the world they they are selfish individuals. Put your damned dumbbells back where they belong. Strip your plates from the bar when you're done. Carry a damned towel and use it. And, don't try to take up 5 pieces of equipment at once. Plus the "grunters" annoy me... and the guys who stare at themselves in the mirror and flex for 80% of the time they're in the gym annoy me... and the "belters" annoy me (guys who wear a weight belt to do kickbacks with the pink and purple weights)...

I can't agree more. I work at a gym and have to deal with these jackasses every damn day. Put your weights back. Stop hogging five things at once. Get off your damn phone while working out. Wipe down your machines. And keep your damn kids off the equipment.
