We don't even know that.  Even that is speculation cobbled together from the fact that his agent didn't get his no trade list in on time.  We don't know whether Buffalo would have been on that list.

I imagine that if he did indeed want to play on the Sabres, he would've made that point clear at some point in this story, while offering another explanation. Our ownership team probably would've given him whatever time he needed for personal issues, had they felt he was 100% committed to being on this team. Thats why his silence on this issue leads one to believe part of the reason for all of this is that he doesn't want to be here. At least imo.

But everything here is conjecture since we don't know really anything. At some point we'll know what happened im sure.

Oh, I have. There were vicious debates back in the day about Dom cracking under pressure in big games. The Kasparaitis goal was curious, let's leave it at that. The sprint off the ice didn't help the optics.

Sorry but I couldn't leave it at that. Dom never liked to lose. He absolutely hated it as most should remember. I remember seeing him sprint away after other tough losses as well, & he's not alone in that either. I think its safer to say he did so from being mad at the loss & or himself, than saying he'd sprint off from deliberately letting the other team score lol. I mean it was game 7 in overtime. It seemed like he played the angle wrong from sitting deeper in the net due to the oncoming rush & Kasparaitis shot just beat him. If that happened to me I wouldnt want to stand around watching the Pens celebrate. I'd get away from there as fast as possible too.

Fans who claim anything different always rubbed me the wrong way on this. Its like ur thinking way too much into it. But i digress. I hope Berglund is alright  but as for our Sabres this is the best that could happen to a bad situation.

  3. The way i see it is he's taking a lot of shots just to throw it on net, as Reinhart, Pommi & skinner crash to the net.

I don't see a lot of his shots on goal as legitimate attempts to score. More him just moving the puck towards the net in the hopes of a rebound or ricochet to one of our players for an easy goal. Just something i've noticed a lot the past 10 games.

IF one is ok w/ not all games being worth the same # of points & the NHL clearly is (most are worth 2, but many are worth 3 with the current system).  AND IF one wants to keep with a max of 2 points being awarded for a win, which the league also wants to keep consistent with historical standards.  AND you want teams expending the most effort towards winning, particularly in regulation; then make a regulation win worth 2, an OT win worth 1, and a loss or a tie worth nada.

The league will never make that change because it will spread the standings from top to bottom & bad teams will look REALLY bad & multiple teams will find themselves essentially eliminated by Christmas.  But that would make guys play for the W always.

Nor would teams want to get a tie in a game & end up with no points out of it. The only thing i could see as a solution would be to eliminate ties all together & have it be a continuous overtime until a winner is decided or have it be like now but with a shootout forever until someone wins.

  5. I don't think theres any real way for any of us to know what goes on in private in talks between GM's. Any guesses are pure conjecture. One would think you'd target the other teams best players & work down from there & perhaps thats what JBots did. But we really have no idea what was discussed between the two of them. It is possible JBots liked what he saw & he valued Tage more so than Armstrong did & insisted on im coming over, but who knows. I do think its unlikely Tage was the 1st name Jbots brought up tho.

Winger Tage Thompson, perhaps the biggest piece of the deal, was a former first-rounder the Sabres insisted the Blues include.”

Insisted? Idk, maybe the writer was there, but I don’t remember it ever being proven that Buffalo “insisted” on TT being included or else that trade wasn’t going down.

Doug Armstrong the GM of the Blues said that we insisted on Tage being part of the deal. Many sources out there that use that term 'insisted'. But heres the 1st one i got from google: https://www.pjstar.com/sports/20180702/newly-acquired-tage-thompson-eager-to-settle-in-with-sabres  And another one:https://www.sportsandotherthings.com/nhl/2018/7/2/ryan-oreilly-to-st-louis-is-another-step-in-the-wrong-direction-for-buffalo Obviously we don't know for 100% what JBots would've accepted or not. But all signs that i've seen point that Tage was a player they really wanted.

I'm still hopeful that Tage will develop into a productive player. He's got great size & has a great shot. Just needs more refinement & playing time imo. If he's not gonna get ice time up here, i'd like to see him sent down to Rochester so he can get more reps there.

Its funny though. That 2nd link i posted where they said the ROR trade was a wrong step for Buffalo... Looks like they were wrong & everyone else who said the sky was falling with that trade. ROR has been playing great for St Louis but we've been doing pretty good ourselves. I for one continue to see the trade as a win win for both clubs. #In JBots i trust

  7. Just think, a few days ago we were seeing threads on how long do we give JBots & Housley b4 we fire them. Now we're getting threads on handing out long term contract extensions. What a difference a couple wins make huh?

Instead of throwing out a term for Skinner i'll simply say that if JBots believes he'll be an important part of our team moving forward, he'll put a solid offer out there & get er done. I'm sure Skinner playing great was the hope going into bringing him here & that an extension was something already considered. Hopefully this is just the beginning & that line turns it up even more.

  8. Larsson can be a serviceable forward on the 4th line but he doesnt bring the energy that Elie has. Elie brings more energy & is more disruptive on the ice than Larsson is.

He's more experienced for sure, but like others have said, Elie has more upside. He's like a Kaleta but with more offensive skill imo

  9. Half the roster is new. I could see any other head coach needing time to get the boys playing with chemistry & consistency. Phil has got a long leash. For the Sabres to cut loose from him we'd have to have another season like last year. But no way in hell do we fire him during the season, unless maybe we lose the next 30-40 games in a row. Its just not happening. And i hope it doesnt. The Sabes should bounce back tonite. Even if they dont win I expect them to play with a bit more fire under the belt. Play a more simple game. Just get pucks to the net & dont try to be so fancy.

  10. Just heard the news... Wow what a great deal! Our gm's in the past wouldve been too afraid to lose someone like Sam where they mightve been more willing to dish out a 7 year 7mil/per contract. But not JBots. This guy is fiscally responsible & is methodical in his approach.

As others have pointed out, we have 3 1st round picks next year. Our team is getting faster & Sam needs to prove he can be a productive even strength forward, before we commit that much to him.

But big sigh of relief that a deal is done & this won't be a distraction going forward & we can get him into the lineup to get everything rolling.

Another day & more great Sabres news! The Sabres are my cure for those Bills blues. Go Sabres!

  11. Last season i'll be honest, I couldn't watch full games at times because of how bad our play was. NHL.com's youtube channel offers condensed games for you to watch. Just showing any play of note. They'll squeeze a whole game into a 9 minute video.

I hope this year our games are more exciting & from everything we've done this offseason i'm inclined to believe they will be.

But for those who don't have the time to watch an entire game, condensed games are a pretty neat way to follow the action. Just an fyi to those who arent aware of them.

  12. For the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals with Carolina, a group of 6 friends of mine traveled down to Carolina to watch game 6. We were pumped, thinking this was our time to revenge the 1999 loss & we thought we had it in the bag. We brought down a life sized home made Stanley Cup we made. Needless to say when we lost 3-2 we were crushed & somewhere outside the arena by a row of trees we buried our Cup as if we were attending a funeral. We buried our dreams that night.

I've often wondered if that Cup we buried is still there lol.

But for me, that 1999 Cup was the one that got away. And if we had won that Cup I could've lived with 2005-2006. It also works vice versa though, if we won in 2005, 2006 it wouldve helped me forget that 99 loss.  I think the most important thing here is that WE NEED TO WIN A CUP!

No question.  Just one less D injury and we win the Conference finals and the Cup. We were the best team in the NHL by the time the playoffs started.  We also should have won the 1999 Cup.  Hull even admitted that had he not scored, his team was done.

For years I've personally blamed myself for that '99 loss. Me & my friends were at the bar watching the game, but at the same time as the game we were having a huge house party too, leaving only 1 of our roommates behind to control it. We stayed at the bar for hours, up thru the start of the 3rd overtime & then we made the walk home to finish watching the game at home. In less than the few minutes it took to walk the distance, when we walked in we saw the mood of everyone & immediately knew what we had done.

I know what people will say about their superstitions but I've never been able to forgive myself for leaving. If we just wouldve stayed at the bar we  wouldve won... It was that kind of run for us that year, something magical & its all my fault!

On behalf of this board & to Sabres fans everywhere.... I'm sorry

IMHO, Buffalo has excellent pizza, and far superior to Chicago (which is gross), although not as good as NYC.

    Discuss.

We here in Buffalo sometimes don't realize how good we have it when it comes to food... pizza & wings included. But I suppose all of our overgrown stomachs should be a sign lol But we often take it for granted. For a city of our size, we have it pretty good in terms of quantity & quality. I'm reminded of this when I talk to people around the world, that gush & get excited about ordering pizza. Only to find out that they really mean Pizza Hut or Dominoes or one of those other chain places.

It saddens my heart when they gush about Dominoes. These people have no idea. It's hard to explain how good something is to someone who doesn't know. But this article you shared will help spread the word. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully spreading the word about Buffalo Pizza will help make pizza great again

    That soundtrack is golden.

If you liked Drive & its soundtrack there was a film that came out awhile ago called Good Time. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4846232 It has Robert Pattinson in it but don't let that scare you. The film was a ride & the score just exasperated the tension. The 2 directors Bennie Salfdie & Josh Salfdie are 2 up & comers out of NYC, getting a lot of good press & attention. I'll be watching any other films these guys make. Their pacing & story telling is refreshing. Albeit not for the faint of heart.

  16. I voted for the both teams hover around the .500 mark. Reason being is that I expect the Bills having some difficulty with the 1st half of the season, perhaps going 3-5 or dare i say 4-4. The 2nd half looks more promising where if our d plays as expected & we remain in games, a record of 9-7 would seem within reach. I know some won't agree & perhaps would say we're worse off than that, but we really won't know how good those teams are on our schedule until we see them in action. There are surprises every year, but i like what i see out of this team so far early in the process.

For the Sabres with the additions they've made, with better goaltending, a stronger defense & better even strength scoring & special teams, getting to that 85-90 point mark would be a heck of an achievement after what we've been thru, but in my eyes entirely possible.

Yes I am forever the optimist, if you can call hovering around the .500 mark optimistic lol
