I hate to say this as I try not to be a big “what if” guy.  But I really think if Quinn never got hurt we’d be in the playoffs.
Maybe Adams fault is that he never adequately replaced him.  But my point is I don’t think Adams is the problem.

I have Quinn at 28 goals for full season, based on 9 G  in 26 games, though if he scores tonight that is higher. Ya, that could of made a difference.

  2. I hope they do a brain scan on him. I don't gamble, but If I did I'd wager all those hits to head did damage. Obviously guilty, but there was obviously bad behavior by the cops. No way that glove ended up at OJ's house without some help from law enforcement.

Here are some things people should know about contracts before they dig in about Owen Power:

    • This year he had the salary cap hit of a 7th defenceman ($916K)
    • This year, the median 1st-pairing defenceman cap hit was about $6.5M
    • Next year he will be paid like an above-average 1st-pairing defenceman ($8.35M)
    • Next year, the median 1st-pairing defenceman cap hit will be between $7-7.5M (depending on free agent signings)
    • Every year for the next 7, Power's contract will likely be passed by a handful of players until at the end of his contract he will be getting paid like a good 2nd-pairing defenceman

Here are some things people should know about performance before they dig in about Owen Power:

    • he produced total points like a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he produced ES points like a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he ate ice time like a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he threw hits like a borderline 2nd/3rd pairing defenceman
    • he blocked shots like a 2nd-pairing defenceman
    • he avoided giveaways like a 2nd-pairing defenceman
    • he forced takeaways like a 2nd-pairing defenceman
    • he avoided taking penalties like a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he had the shot attempt possession numbers of a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he had the goals for % numbers of a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he had the expected goals for numbers of a 1st-pairing defenceman
    • he had the expected goals against numbers of a 2nd-pairing defenceman

And by 1st, 2nd and 3rd, I mean he ranked in the top, middle or bottom 3rd of the league's  defencemen who played at least 60 games.

He's also apparently the NHL's best stretch passer but I could not find any stats on zone exits created or prevented.

He was one of just 6 U22 defencemen to play 70 NHL games this year.

And he is just a baby! Great post!

    Thank you!

  4. Game notes: This thing is going to come right down to the wire.

The Red Wings made their own bed when they lost seven straight games from Feb. 29-March 14, giving away their stronghold on a playoff position. Since then, the Wings haven't played their best hockey, but they've stabilized. But stable hasn't been good enough against their brutal schedule lately. The Wings are just 4-11-4 since Feb. 28, including Friday night's tough loss to the New York Rangers, and now are on the outside looking in for the playoffs. However, the Wings got a good break in the standings with a loss by the Washington Capitals Friday night.

On the larger topic of sticks breaking though, why does the NHL and its owners and players accept this? I can’t think of an equivalent in the other major team sports. I’ve seen now dozens of examples of an NHL player’s stick breaking, often at an inopportune moment, with seemingly little to no force being placed on the stick. It would be like baseball gloves occasionally just having the pocket blow out when outfielders go to make a routine catch on a fly ball. It’s just odd to me that this has become something that could happen in the biggest moment of a game and the hockey world has shrugged its shoulders with acceptance.

Fine line between a stick with a whip-flex and one that breaks. A whip flex helps make shot harder
