  1. I think that of that list, only Eichel and Reino are Sabres because of the tank, with Risto being debatable.  ROR and Kane were hockey trades, and Nylander was a post-tank draft pick.

probably right...really, I think the rebuild is what has been successful to this point, getting rid of aging players like Vanek, Pomminstein and Miller and getting draft picks in exchange. The "tank" was suppose to net McDavid but that didn't work but jack is pretty darn good so that works out in the end. Our rebuild has certainly changed the complete roster (except maybe Ennis) and I do think that is/was good thing

  2. Sportsnet has recently taken a stab at what they think may be who Las Vegas will take at the expansion draft, to be held June 20, 2017. Here is that list and I am sure this will be definite food for thought...

I think we can all agree losing Matty would be a good thing at this point...any thoughts of other players they may take instead and from whom?

  3. obviously the fact that somehow the leafs suddenly became like this unstoppable crazy juggarnaut overnight certainly made anything the Sabres did or accomplished to this point unacceptable or not good enough. Kinda think that was a big part of EXGMTM being canned (of course his attitude probably had something to do with it too although he was a good scout and a judge of young talent). The tank and the rebuild is moving along at  a good pace and  hopefully we will see some big improvements next season

  4. Just looking at this article about the NHL draft process this year and how it would  have changed virtually everything about the previous drafts if the new system would have been used. If thing shad gone the previous years as they did Saturdau night, here is how things would have gone...

The winners of this format have to be the Hurricanes who come out of it with Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon. Things could have been very different. Mitch Marner in Buffalo, Patrik Laine in Ottawa, Leon Draisaitl in Toronto, and Auston Matthews in Calgary. Amazing and carzy stuff there

  5. Tomorrow night in Chapel Hill, NC a little band from Halifax, NS will be playing at an intimate venue (<200 capacity).

Sloan.  I'm way too old to be going out on a school night for these shows anymore, but I haven't seen them live since the late 90's... so off I'll go...... and suffer for it on Thursday.

funny you should be going to see Sloan...I took my wife and two sons (21 and 19 years old) last Thursday to see who are called the TransCanada Highwaymen... they consist of Chris Murphy lead singer of Sloan, Steven Page, the great voice from Barenaked Ladies, Moe berg from Pursuit Of Happiness )She's So Young and I'm An Adult Now) and Craig Northey from the awesome and underrated Odds (make You Made, It Falls Apart). Great show and highly recommended also going to see Carlos Santana, Foreigner, Burton Cummings band, ZZ Top and the Australian Pink Floyd Show at Casino Rama this summer. should be GREAT!!!

  6. Very intresting, didn't know that about the following draft. Always assumed it was a small market thing. Also intresting perspective to see how we are viewed north of Toronto and that others can see how it seems the refs are out for us. Thanks for that info certainly may explain things.

yeah it is interesting being a Sabre fan in or around TO...I can say that the Sabres were highly thought of and obviously the Leaf fans were jealous for many years when they sucked and our boys were pretty darn good. I do not think the tank was a complete disaster or was not a success cause when you look at where we were a few year sago at least we have some real good young players and all is not doom and gloom although if one listened to our whining on here you would be led to think it is in Sabreland. We are close to being a real good team and a few players, along with some patience, should ensure that down the road

  7. not sure who everybody else wants but I sure like the duo of Fenton and Housley. Clearly Nashville has their finger on the pulse of what is good and exciting hockey while running a good franchise...

  8. I don't like Bettman, and I honestly believe the league favors original six and big market teams (via on ice officiating). In 2002 however, Bettman protected the Sabres when we needed the league the most. Bettman doesn't hate or dislike Buffalo.

It all goes back to when they allowed that goal by Hull that  clearly should not have counted and won Dallas that Cup we should have won. At the draft, Lindy Ruff refused to shake anybody's hand on stage at the following draft and Ryan Miller spoke out on TV slamming the refs and the NHL for aloowing that goal that everyone knows should never have counted. Since then,. he NHL has a grudge against the Sabres even though both Lindy and Ryan are long gone.

It is funny living north of Toronto and being a Sabre fan you get a totally different perspective on things...I tuned in to a radio station up here, the Fan 590, and they have this cool guy named Bobcat who is totally outspoken and blunt as hell, but funny as hell too. Anyways, one day put the station on after work and while driving home. I heard Bobcat and another guy talking about how even they, up here in TO, can clearly see the NHL has in in for "that" team and how the refs screw them every chance they get now after Lindy refusing to shake the head of refereeing at the draft that year on stage on national TV. I was not sure who they were talking about til one or the other said it was the Sabres they were referring to. yes, even Leaf fans and a station that carries leafs games knew that the NHL was screwing the Sabres around. have no doubt, that grudge did,, and seems to, still exist

  9. I think he just means stylistically, not effectiveness.

For example, Eichel sometimes stylistically makes me think of some Lemieux or Fedorov highlights I've seen, but I obviously don't think he's as good as those players.

I got what you mean and love him already...of course we may never see him in  a Sabre uniform so whatever...I can dream

  10. Makar, Erik Karlsson

    Heiskanen, Cam Fowler

    Lillijgren, Oliver Ekman-Larsson

nice work there with your comparisons...I so want us to get Makar...exactly what we need a rushing offensive defenceman.hopefully we can trade up (our 8 plus say a 2nd or 3rd thrown in and maybe Ennis or Bogo haha) so we can get Makar

  11. We actually could have dropped 3 spots last night...

Dropping 2 spots sucks but I still like that they've removed an incentive to tank a season.  The NHL actually got one right.

sorry, thought 8 was as high as we could go. Wow we kinda won in a strange way cause that is great for us! could be worse, we could be Vancouver who got bumped way down and they need virtually everything cause as everyone knows, they are terrible. They have no prospects and the Sundins are so past their prime.

Meanwhile, it is true that this should stop tanking....and wherever we draft does not change the fact that what really matters for us is that the new GM add one of two defencemen (Antipin sounds fine and Guhle is a stud but maybe too soon for him). Whoever we get at 8 is for the future and we need help on D Now!

  12. they gave us a 17% chance of winning the lottery but I knew we had a 100% chance of dropping down to as low as we could go (#8)...anyways, it really does not change what must be our new GM's first and most important mandate...adding one or two defencemen (Antipin will help)...draft is for the future and we need help now...

  13. this does not change what will be the new GM's mandate and first and foremost issue...adding at least one or two good defencemen to the fold...th edraft is for prospects that will maybe help one day down the road but the Sabres obviously need help NOW on D...one thing for sure, Shattenkirk sure is not looking very good (terrible last night)

  14. What if the answer was, "there is no way to fix it immediately but next year we will push for the playoffs and will contend when we clear some contracts and the prospects develop?" The one thing I admired about Murray was he refused to look for a short term fix that added nothing long term, he wasn't always correct with his long term bets but that is a mandatory trait for long term success.

totally agreed...Timmy no doubt didn't offer promises he knew he could not keep...at best this team may compete for a playoff spot next year with a few moves but it will take a few more years for any real gains as we certainly need to remove some aging vets and their bloated contracts with younger faster guys. Guhle will be a great add and Antipin sounds good but who knows? There were and are no quick-fix answers and this will still, whether we (and terry) likes it or not, take time

  15. think it has become obvious that the team with the best offensive defencemen win...Ottawa, Nashville and now Edmonton winning because their defence are stepping up and making the difference. we clearly need to a) allow our defence to be more proactive offensively and not be afraid to go up and be creative, and b) we need to acquire one guy to add to Risto & Guhle who loves to skate and join the rush
