  1. 1) I like Bennett's edge to his game and the fact he is 9 months younger, however I think they need to take the best player even if that means Ekblad. They can always trade one of their blue-chip D prospects down the road for top line talent.

I'd also contact the Oilers especially if they finish ahead of Florida to see what they will give up to get the #1 pick.

of course assuming the Sabres win the lottery!.

    2) If Islanders draft 2, 3 or 4 this year I will hope let us keep the pick. The way things are going they will finish in 2nd or 3rd last.

  2. March 19 recap - potential late 1st - early 2nd round prospects 2014

    Kevin Fiala C HV71, SEL - 0G 1A in 6-4 play-off loss to Skellefteå AIK

    HV71 trail Series 3-0

Jakub Vrana RW Linköpings HC, SEL - 0G 0A in 3-1 play-off win vs Frölunda HC

Linköpings HC leads series 2 -1

Jonas Johansson G Brynäs IF, J20 SuperElite - 29SOG 2GA in 3-2 win over Malmö

    Oskar Lindblom F Brynäs IF, J20 SuperElite - 1G 0A in 3-2 win

Brynäs IF leads series 1-0 (Best of 3)

Adrian Kempe F MODO, J20 SuperElite - 1G 0A in 3-0 win vs Timrå IK

MODO leads Best of Three 1-0

  3. That is most likely what will happen. If the Islanders draft 4th or 5th overall, they will defer to next year. At 4th they could take Dal Colle who could slot in immediately on the wing with Okposo and Tavares. They have Strome at center, with Reinhart, Pulock, and Pokka on defense. All 4 of those players could conceivably be wearing Orange next year.

If I were the Islanders and seeing the amount of talent they could ice next year, I would defer. I don't think their defense will be as bad, I think their forwards will be better, and I think their goaltending could be fixed in the offseason. Not saying they will suddenly be a playoff team but it is conceivable. I honestly don't think they will finish in 26th again.

Also add Adrian Kempe to that list.

Kempe: 6'2" 187lbs (SHL 45gp, 5g, 6a, 11pts) and described on by Future Considerations as a "Kempe is a strong, bullish forward that has size, strength and a work ethic to match. He can be tenacious on the forecheck and never misses finishing a check. He has a heavy shot and isn't shy to drive towards the net."

Anton Karlsson was a player I liked at the midway point. He has been up and down this year from the scouting stuff I have seen but he has the potential to be a very good top 6 winger. He certainly has the size and skating to do it. May become a player that slides in the draft to the beginning of the 2nd round. Could be a good steal especially considering he is young with a Aug 96 birthday.

Kempe is playing today for the MODO J20 teams playoff game. They are up 3-0 and he has one of the goals.

Most definitely, he is on the list ranked 27 by Bob McKenzie latest report and 22 on the latest ICC report. His team Modo unfortunately is done for the year.

  7. Time to look at prospects ranked 20 to 40 as there is a good possiblity 3 of them will be drafted by the Sabres: (St.Louis #1, Buffalo #2 and Winnipeg #2)

    21 Nikita Scherbak LW – Saskatoon - WHL (6'2 - 174lbs) , Born Dec 1995

  8. Craig Button just did a 5 pick mock draft on tsn

    1) buffalo sam bennett

    2) edmonton Ekblad

    3) Florida Dal Coll

    4) Buffalo Draisaitl

    5) Calgary Reinhart

he assumes the Islanders wont give up the chance to enter McDavid / Eichel sweepstakes how do you feel if thihe is right?

  9. Just so everyone understands, next years draft is not McDavid or bust. Some believe that Eichel could actually challenge him for the #1 spot. If this team loads up with 3 top 4 or 5 picks over the next two years, plus the talent they have accumulated over the last 2 drafts we don't become playoff contenders we become CUP contenders within 3 to 4 years.

Or we can just settle for playing for at best 5th to 8th in conference and win a round maybe two for the rest of the Sabres existence.

  10. watch Rochester next year and watch the top prospects for the 2015 draft. How far is it from where you are to either Erie or St.Catharines?

This is actually one of the most exciting periods in Sabres history!

well said, the Ping Pong balls don't fall your way and you miss out on McDavid - you still get Eichel GUARANTEED!!!

Rumours out there that Eichel may play in OHL next year instead of heading to BU. now that would be exciting!

  11. Ryan Kennedy at the Hockey News giving Leon Draisaitl lots of love this afternoon and thinks he should be the #1 pick in the draft. I know he didn't have a great WJC but he certainly has picked up the pace since returning to Prince Albert.

There is another interesting piece that the Red Line Report that has Draisaitl ranked only behind Ekblad.

  12. Okay I went through this with a fine tooth comb. This should fully be accurate and include everything.

miller, vanek, gaustad, Roy, leopold, pominville, regehr, sekera, kassian, Mcnabb, McCormick, MAG, Brennan, Parker, boychuck, 2012 2nd, 2013 4th, 2014 4th, 2015 3rd, 2015 2nd (miller conditional), 2016 3rd (miller conditional)

    For

Zadorov, Girgensons, Hodgson, compher, Larsson, possler, fasching, deslauriers, Hackett, mcbain, tallinder, florentino, Sulzer, pardy, neuvirth, Stewart, carrier, klesa, mitchell, Bailey, 2014 WPG 2nd, 2014 MIN 2nd, 2014/2015 NYI 1st, 2015 NYI 2nd, 2015 STL 1st, 2016 MIN 2nd, 2014 STL 1st (miller conditional)

it gets a bit confusing but if Sabres get St.Louis first in 2014 then St.Louis will get the Minny #2 pick (and Sabres 3rd I believe).

  13. IMHO, our big problem next year might be goaltending. The tandem of Enroth/Neuvirth doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

PERFECT!! Why would I want great goaltending next year???

    McDavid...Wow!

If any Sabre fan questions why the Sabres TANK continues for 2015 - they NEED to take a drive out to Erie and watch McDavid. I've seen him play live in Kitchener and once online through OHL live and he is worth the price of admission and worth every second of this rebuild. Yes, we are not guaranteed to get him even if we come in Last but you need as many ping pong balls as possible.

  14.

Here is McDavid's goal vs London last night, unfortunately it cuts short the moves he put on Sabres prospect Austin where he turns him inside and out and inside once again. still shows the patience McDavid has as he waits out the goalie while Austin wonders where his jock strap is.

  15. Brady Austin just got his lunch handed to him by Connor McDavid. They are saying the nicest goal McDavid has scored for Erie.

    Unbelievable skill! TANK ON!!!!

Andre Burakovsky ( Rumoured to be part of a deal that would send Miller to Washington along with one of the Caps young tenders) scores a beauty too.

  16. Whomever they draft, I would hope they stay on their junior team for another year. I know that isn't the recent trend with #1 or 2 picks but I think this is the best scenario for the team and the player.

Rumour that the Sabres are trying to re-sign Miller once again, the only way I see this as a good ploy is that it increases his trade value. If the Sabres can't get a high valued prospect or a #1 pick for him. Do you agree in keeping him?
