Navy boy, only one stint, civilian life is better.

I appreciate the fact that we appreciate our vets, my father was in Vietnam and he came home to a much different situation. But the veteran stuff in sports is nauseating, @LGR4GMI don't know if i could do it man, the whole song?!

I agree with this I am also a one term Navy boy. Enjoyed it and hated it happier on the civilian side of things. When I go to events I am just a fan and don’t want any attention just want to enjoy the game.

    1. Gordon’s fisherman

    2. UFA Duchene

    3. Absolutely 8x8 most important

    4. Trade him for some goal scoring winger. It’ll also help our D numbers with addition by subtraction.

    5. Duchene

Its ok, Botts just needs 6-8 weeks to evaluate Phils tenure as a HC here before he makes the decision to pull the trigger or not......

You wouldn't want him  to make a rush decision on something like this....

    that aged well

Nylander, Olofsson, O'Regan, Smith, Pilut.  Any three of those forwards could have stepped in Sobotka, Thompson or Girgensons any time after Thanksgiving.  Pilut is among the top six Dmen in the organization.

I agree with the forwards but I really like the game that Zemgus’ game has morphed into as a bottom line grinding forward.

I'm not sure I can reasonably quantify Dahlin's ceiling. It's somewhere above Karlsson and Hedman.

I agree it’s really hard to figure out his ceiling. After what I am seeing this year I would say his floor is those two guys and his ceiling is a better skating Lindstrom. This might be crazy and I’m wearing Sabres colored glasses. But a man can dream right?

  5. I agree with most of what you have here. The only one that I see that might not be true is two. I do believe Sam’s game is great and still growing. I want him here long term but I could see him traded to bring in a top end young second line center.

It is nice to see a positive outlook on things other than the doom and gloom that has been on this board recently (all be it deserved).

I'm guessing Skinner wants an 8 year max deal and JBots is hesitant to pay big $$$ into Skinner's mid-30's?

I'm confident that a deal will get done but it must be nice to be in Skinner's position. He has all the leverage.

I am also confident the deal will get done and probably at 8 years. Also in 5-8 years where he will probably be slowing down if the cap keeps going up like it has been the contract probably won’t even be that bad.

They didn't show it, they didn't rewind far enough, do you happen to have a clip? I didn't know what they were talking about lol

They challenged Dahlin entry when he let go of the puck entered the zone before the puck crossed and gained control of it after it entered. They consider control since he had it before he entered and then after he entered. I would not of been surprised if they called it the other way. Could not find a replay of it.

found a really crappy Pens fan video he’s annoying but it shows it.

He's trying to make his own brand/style, I guess...

I must admit, I'm enjoying him much more than I did at first, and I think he's gotten better. Nonetheless, I find many of his go-to calls ("Eichel tower," "Sam-I-am") absolutely cringe-worthy

I really like the way he calls the game and think he should take over after RJ is done. I do agree that his “go to calls” are trash but that he can learn. We have been spoiled with RJ  the best play by play guy in the NHL.

O'Reilly's contract is interesting.  AAV $7.5M, but his base salary is only $1M.  All the rest is signing bonuses, so he gets the bulk of his pay up front before the season even starts.  (That's why it was significant to move him prior to July 1 when his bonus was due- if not, it would have been the Sabres who paid him most of his money for this season.)

And if you get paid in bonus it takes your money out of that weird pot of money that the NHL collects and then redistributes after it converts all the teams caps. Players lose out since most teams pay to the cap or close to it and very few only pay to the floor.

If I was diong it now I would be going to a virtual campus at a REAL College. Cheaper tuition in many cases, no room/board costs and the degree is from the same school. Nobody will know it's a virtual campus unless you put it on the resume.  Curriculum is the same and its very well done now as wll.  Would be able to graduate with a degree for under $25K for all 4 years in many cases.

If I had to do it all over again I would do a community college or a two year program and transfer into a four year school to save money. I ended up with 150K in student loans when I finished my undergrad from a private engineering school and ended up joining the Navy for 6 years so I could pay my student loans.

Now that I’m out I couldn’t find a job in what I went to school for being that I haven’t worked in the field for over 7 years now, but I’m getting my masters at a private college here in CT for free with the GI Bill actually get $3000 a month when I’m in school on top of the education for my housing. I don’t recommend it but military gives you free college.

Can't be higher than a 4th round pick.  If it took a 3rd to get him from Montreal a 4th would likely be the going rate for a depth defensemen.  Honestly, i'd rather see Scandella or Hunwick go, but to each their own.  At this point:

    Dahlin - Montour

    Pilut / McCabe - Ristolainen

    Scandella - Bogosian

Looks rather appealing.  However, we do need to move two out of: Scandella, Beaulieu, Hunwick, Nelson.

I agree that Scandella needs to go and I don’t give a hoot about Nelson. I think Beaulieu can be solid and like his toughness. I don’t want to move Hunwick bc then we will owe Pit a 3rd instead of a 4th.

Am I right on the condition?

    1) If Stl fails to make the playoffs and the pick is top 10, then the pick is deferred to 2020 and Ana gets SJ's pick

    2) If Stl fails to make the plays  but their pick falls between 11-15, we keep the pick and Ana gets SJ's pick

    3) if Stl makes the playoffs and is eliminated in the 1st rd and their picks ends up between 16-20, we keep the pick and Ana gets SJ''s pick.

    4) if Stl makes the playoffs as does SJ, Ana chooses the best position of the 2 from 21 to 31.

That is how I read it.
