  1. And in the Spectrum on 3/30/81 Isiaeh Thomas led the Hoosiers to the NCAA basketbal title. Knight got another title and once again denied Dean Smith his first.
  2. This is one of the very few losses in "this day in Sabre history." I guess we aren't undefeated for 1970-Spring 2006!
  3. The KC Scouts were the Colorado Rockies for a few years before they became the Devils I believe.
  4. I hope so - remember even the Sens have lost to the Sabres once this season. Anyway, I'll leave the game up to you guys - this Tiger season ticket holder has a college basketball game out in Oakland to pay attention to at the same time.
  5. While I always enjoyed hockey I remember the battle with the Wings for a playoff spot well. Winning it, and then not getting swept by the Habs may well have been a significant factor in making this young kid a true Sabre fan with a mild interest in the Braves, a significant feat considering I could get a ticket to virtually any Braves game but Sabre tix were hard to come by. You had to hustle to get an open practice ticket !
  6. Thanks - I'll sign off and take my remedial math class!
  7. I'm not so sure you would. It was truly a "real life invades sports" moment. Hard to believe it has been 27 years.
  8. The Center Ice schedule shows that the game is on and it is the RJ/Batman feed!
  9. I know the schedule is brutal, but starting Marty tonight after the stellar performance Miller had on Saturday is an indication that Lindy actually has a rotation in goal other than "ride the horse until he is dead".
  10. Energy, effprt, and a win would go a long way tonight!
  11. Begins tonight! Let's GO BUFF - A - LO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Campy - I just clicked on your signature line. I LOVE IT! A different mix but Tommy Calandra brings back VERY fond memories of my youth. I still have the 45, just nothing to play it on.
  13. Nice little stretch of taking care of business. 3 wins within the division in less than a week. Keep it going Swordsmen!!!!!!!!
  14. 3/7/71 is interesting. The very first Sabres game I went to was in the spring of '71 against the Blues. It was a weeknight and my father made us leave at the end of the second because of school the next day. I have always held it against him because I recall that Bert broke the rookie goal record in the third period that night. I guess I didn't miss it by being forced to leave early that night.
  15. I remember who we played last night, but obviously not my captain history!
  16. Does anyone know if Goyette was our second captain after Floyd Smith or is my memory faulty?
  17. Eddie was one of my original favorites, but this trade may have had more of an impact than the 3/3 rights to Lariviere for Desjardins
  18. I'll admit I had to look up Lariviere. No recollection of him at all! He did play an important part in Sabres history - bringing Desjardins
  19. Februaury 28, 2006: Countless fans itching for the Swordmen to return to play after an Olympic break that is beginning to approach an eternity!
  20. Until I read this I didn't even remember Paimont playing for the Swordsmen. I think of him as a Kansas City Scout!
  21. I think the picture of Gretz going by with the puck in the net past Edwards is as recognizable of an nhl photo as Orr flying through the air after winning the Cup in '70.
  22. BtP - I think that is the least of our worries - most of the nuns that taught there while I was a student are no longer nuns. If one does start posting , however I'll be hot on your tail on my way out. Little did I dream that my 32 year old tribute to #2 would uncover a grammar school link to 3 Tennesseans! BSS couldn't have had 350 students when I was there and it sure didn't have a preschool.
  23. I still remember putting up a tribute bulletin board to Tim at Blessed Sacrament School - 7th grade. Hard to believe it has been 32 years. Although his best playing days were clearly as a Leaf, Horton was very important to the quick development of a young team in Buffalo. His presence, as short as it was, likely were significant to the '75 Cup Final run.
  24. If memory serves me correctly, Rico had 5 more goals to score that season, setting the record (at the time) at 44 goals.
  25. See PA we REALLY do read them!!!!!!!!!!!
