Wonder if Briere stuck him earlier.
-
Dirty play by Larsson there.
-
Foligno and Zads both looked lazy on that one.
-
I think that's the best thing about Risto and Zad, they seem to feed off one another. I'm not sure if it's competition or they just get pumped from it but when one does something well, you can usually see the other follow suit soon thereafter.
They seem to have a great friendly rivalry going.
Love it. Good for the team.
And if Myers has any serious injury we are so back in the tank derby,
-
In Soviet Russia, hits don't count unless two opponents fall.
-
They're out of sync today.
Too bad because the Avs look bad in their own zone.
-
I think Ray was overstating the problem with Grigs and Larsson, what about the guy who made the bad pass to Grigo/Nikita?
What about the guy who made the change with Larsson?
And why the hell have they broken up Nikita and Risto?
-
It's all good.
Murray will be signing one of our UFA goalies and trading the other regardless.
When that happens, Hackett playing at least eight games down the stretch brings us closer to the tank.
-
As a team, they are much more competitive within the game. They are IN every game of late.
There is a second line. Ennis-Zemgus-Moulson
There are two defensive Pairs: Gorges-Myers
Risto-Zads
I'm much less worried about goal-tending.
Enroth might not be the final dominant answer - but he might just be a Marty Biron.
I don't think you need to worry much about finding bottom 6 forwards they can always be found.
What is needed is a top forward line and a bottom D pair.
That's some progress in my mind even if the team isn't more competitive in the league standings yet.
This is the most coherent post on the state of the Sabres I have seen.
I think this - not tanking - is the truest reflection of Tim Murray's plan.
It's a rebuild guys. Pieces are slowly being put in place.
And we have the assets to add more.

I'm calling it right here and now: the Sabres are getting McDavid.
They aren't getting him because they tanked their way into dead last. They are getting him because they win the lottery.

That article is about the NBA... In the NHL:
From 1997-2007 5 of the 11 first overall picks won the cup (all with the team that drafted them).
Guys like Stamkos and Tavares (2008 and 2009) could win one before too long/they retire.
In that same span (97-07):
2nd overall picks: 3 of 11 win cups with their draft team (2008's Doughty and 2010's Seguin already did so, too)
3rd overall picks: 1 of 11 -- Toews. Only one other one even has a championship (Horton).
4th overall picks: 1 of 11 -- Andrew Ladd. None of the rest have championships.
5th overall picks: 0 of 11 have won a cup since 1997.
Ah, but how many of those teams actually tanked?
(never mind that 10 out 55 chances wouldn't excite anyone other than fans of the Sabres power play)
-
The jersey actually has a pretty cool, Roaring 20s vibe.
The whole package is disgusting.
-
I'm a little disturbed by his lack of posting on this thread.
Game is on the line, the puck is on his stick, the opportunity is there and he's shooting like Zhitnik.
-
Both votes will be discounted unless they post their preference.
-
It's actually every single team except one (Detroit) has had at least two top five picks making significant contributions to their cup roster.
So acquire Hall, team him with Reinhart and we're good?
-
For the record, I really like Gionta. He's got your back.
Small moment in the game last night....he literally pulls E. Kane off of of Foligno back.
Those moments add up.
Gionta is a man and a leader of men. Wish he was a better player, but he's been pretty effective the past month.
Watched the game on replay after the Preds - Bruins game. Meszaros is really awful. It's to the point where Nolan really can't even play him (got only 9 minutes of ice time after a couple of huge gaffs). Can we just get rid of the guy now? Why do we have to wait until the trade deadline?
He's now 8th on the depth chart. I wish Murray would get over his tough love stance on Pysyk and/or Pysyk would stop pouting
Anyone else notice Nikita being on for 3 goals against. I love his fire and abilities but their were times when his positioning was wrong or he over committed. He needs to trust his linemate more... of course if I was playing with Meszaros I would have been like f### no.
Nikita's confidence took a boost from the Florida goal and he was trying to do more.
I'm not going to read too much into a sloppy fifth game in seven nights, but the kid has to find a happy medium.
-
Yeah, I thought he was deliberately cautious. The kid is well-aware of his perceived flaws and anxious to prove he won't be a liability.
Given the way Hodgson was stapled to the bench after the shortie, I wonder if Grigo will get a chance to steal his roster spot.

This team is nothing without Torreys Mitchellsons

I'll say it again, since it seems to be getting lost. Look at established market value.
The best comparison to Hall who was recently traded is Kessel.
Both are/were elite scoring wingers who are top 10 scorers in the NHL
Kessel went for two firsts and a second.
We will have to move one of our key chips: Reinhart, Myers, Zads, Girgs, Risto or this year's top pick.
We should not have to move two or three of them.
If we offer all three first rounders this year, they will have to pay attention, assuming they are fully embracing the tank. This is exactly the type of move Murray said he wanted to make,
Also, Hall is a hard worker on the ice, fast and a little on the reckless side.
And I would bet good money that playing with him with Hodgson gives us a legitimate second line,
-
A Callahan-type for a Eberle type at the AHL level.
Hope it fixes what ails the Amerks.
-
Look, I'm not in love with the player, but let's not undersell his value: the Sabres haven't had a player of Hall's talent since Patty and Alex were lighting it up.
He's got his flaws - and is apparently a bit of an arrogant dick - but he is a top 10 scorer in this league.

You know, Stewart could be a useful player on a good team.
He just needs to be paired with a Toews or a Kopitar who can get him the puck in open ice and hide his defensive flaws.
