I don't think what can be underestimated is not only the players that Murray brought in but the kind of players, as well as the ones that got shipped out. Grigs was a could have been. Zads I really didn't want to see go but he is a lightning rod. Hodgson is gone. Every guy he brought in is big, tough and self starter, even the Legwand and McGinn throw ins. There isn't one player on this entire team that isn't a hard worker on the ice. Even our new goalie is a maniac. The addition by subtraction as well as the talent and the experience brought in makes this an entirely different kind of team.
Was just thinking the same thing.
We've got a dressing room full of soldiers.
People might not like the value Murray gets in trades, but he is trading with purpose.
Culture should be excellent.
-
If healthy, McGinn is a hard 3rd-liner.
He might make Foligno available to dangle as bait for an LD
-
He's sitting with the Newport Sports guys.
He is probably introducing himself to O'Reilly.
-
Any word on when the introductory pressers for Eichel and O'Reilly will take place? and if they'll be done together or separately?
Separately. Eich's I bet happens Sunday or Monday along with an announcement of his contract.
-
This guy immediately leaps to the top of the Sabres all-name list somewhere between Gates Orlando and Morris Titanic
-
Murray hates Russians (if they're from Russia)
-
Why is it burned? The guy made a ton of money and got to play with a contender. Now he can come back here and lead if he wants to.
That would be ideal, but Murray implied he didn't want to be here when he bought him out.
My impression was Murray didn't like his attitude and Ehrhoff didn't like what Murray was implying.
Maybe I misread it. Hope I did.
Ehrhoff has unfinished business here and I'd love to see him earn his money.
-
Who is going to get bumped if we add a third-line RW?
It won't be Gionta.
-
Ehrhoff remains the best fit.
Left-handed veteran mobile puck mover who can play the PP
Too bad that bridge seems to be burned.
-
To me, that is ideal up front. This lineup is from sabres.nhl.com
Evander Kane - Ryan O’Reilly - Tyler Ennis
Matt Moulson - Jack Eichel (if he goes pro) - Zemgus Girgensons.Marcus Foligno - Sam Reinhart - Brian Gionta Nicolas Deslauriers - Johan Larsson - Jamie McGinn
Extras: David Legwand, Cody McCormick
Josh Gorges - Zach Bogosian Jake McCabe - Rasmus Ristolainen Mike Weber - Mark Pysyk
Goalies:
The fourth line is better than some of those Torrey Mitchell concoctions Nolan was using as a second line last year.
On D I put Bogo with Pysyk, Gorges with Risto, and Weber with McCabe.
Hopefully we add a top-four D.
If Lehner plays to Murray's expectations, this is a playoff team.
(There I said it. Koolaid swallowed, all aboard team sunshine and kittens)
-
Just a reminder that when teams are busy holding on for dear life trying to contain Eichel, we'll still have Samson Reinhart taking the game over.
I saw this thread pop up and I was concerned it was going to be trade proposal, or something else minimizing Sam and his role in our future. Glad to see the positive thoughts. Love this kid.
-
We can't pretend the 2014-15 season didn't happen.
Tell that to Milan Lucic
-
That Lehner better be the next Lundquist for what we paid. Lack, Talbot, Niemi all cost a hell of lot less then #21.
He doesn't have to be Lundquist, just better than the other guys who were traded for less.
So glad if that was the case.Possibly 31 and 51. Sather supposedly turned down an offer of two 2nds from a team, was rumored it was from Murray.
Talbot scared me.
-
So, a Corey Sarich type?
Interesting that he tied with Eichel for first with seven top-10 finishes in combine testing.
-
Has anyone ever seen a GM so methodically tear down what he inherited, target the pieces he wanted, then go out and get them?
-
Some perspective on today:
If the Sabres are lifting the cup in the next five years, you can guarantee Eichel, O'Reilly and Lehner will be at the head of the line. This might go down as the most important day in Sabres history.
-
Zadorov hurts.
Such a charismatic player.
-
I don't get this worry about the prospect pool.
Fasching, carrier, Baptiste, Bailey, Cornel, Karabacek, McCabe, Ullmark are all still coming, as well as the second rounder this year.
That's not counting Reinhart and Eichel, who probably make our prospect pool the best in the league on their own.
We have two extra thirds next year and an extra second the year after.
And we have all our regular high picks going forward.
Our prospect pool is OK and we have the youngest core in the league.
There is no issue here.
-
Legwand is a bigger long shot to make the team than Reinhart.
Hell, I'd be surprised if he beats out Hodgson.
He was a cap dump. That's all.
-
Murray trades 1st round draft picks like he is throwing out junk mail. He has now traded away 7 players/picks from the 1st round in addition to 3 second round picks from the top 5 of the second round.
Ten premium picks he has traded away. The short term should definitely improve, but he has unloaded some top prospects as a result. And still Cody Hodgson is a Sabre!
I loved the idea of Brendan Lemieux and JT Compher playing together for the Sabres, but now it's history.
Mission accomplished.
We traded a flawed core away for futures.
We have now cashed in the futures for a new core.
Now we watch and see how they develop.
It's about Kane and Eichel and O'Reilly and Reinhart.
Zadorov is the only guy we traded with huge upside.
The Comphers and Lemieuxs are periphery.
-
Happy they didn't have to sacrifice Zemgus.
-
Somebody check on Blue
-
Nah, I couldn't get one together- didn't have access to a printer this week.
I thought about doing a Jack Eichel paper mask, still didn't have the resources.
We expect update every time Murray talks to another GM (and photos of Kim for Aud).
-
Damn, we're questioning Sweeney and Murray after today's trades.
How about Dean Lombardi?
Never mind the horrible Cap situation.
Two first-round draft picks, Martin Jones, and two prospects
For 16 regular season games from Sekera and a fading UFA-to-be Lucic?
Lucky he can wave his Stanley Cup rings in people's faces.

I am slowly starting to realize what a perfect complement Ryan O'Reilly and Evander Kane are for each other — their skills mesh perfectly and they are beasts to play against.
