Quite the scenario you came up with there but I want to highlight just this one part.

So you're saying, what if the Sabres doctors said one thing, but Jack kept googling another option and then brought it in and insisted upon it because he's such a wild and passionate guy or something like that?

One, while he might have gotten a second medical opinion I cannot picture him researching and obsessing. Maybe his ego is big enough to view things in terms of "birthright" , but that would in and of itself speak volumes as to the problem with this team these years.

So, I don't believe any of that proposed narrative is even the remotest possibility, but that's just opinion like yours.

In any event, to me it doesn't matter. This would still be all about Jack, and that is imo what has to end for this team to have even the slightest chance of future success.

Agree!  that type of selfishness, me first has to go. No matter how great you think you are this is not basketball....it’s hockey and it is a team sport. Buffalo fans deserve better.

Realistically they should move Jack, Sam and Risto but part of me feels like these guys should want to fix this and they shouldn’t move them. I’m all over the place.

But we can’t be much worse by moving them. They’ve clearly not been good enough as a core to push them to the playoffs. And they can say what they want but they were paid big $ and didn’t get it done and nobody can sugarcoat that, especially them.

Agree 100% . We need to change the culture once and for all! Management needs to take a stand and say if your not proud to put the Buffalo Sweater on then we don’t want you. McDermott and Beane apply this philosophy and it’s worked for the Bills. Eichel has been the most disappointing Captain in Sabres history in my humble opinion. When he was healthy he was unable to elevate the status of his surrounding teammates. Isn’t that was great players do....are we not paying him great player money? I hope the door doesn’t hit him in the ARSsss on the way out.

Seriously?  Luukkonnen's injury was due to overuse?  Huh?

This was his THIRD consecutive start and only his 4th NHL game total, where with each of the 3 straight he had a day off in between games.  If he can't handle THAT workload, he'll NEVER be an NHLer.

Agree 100%! Where would Ryan Miller’s career gone with that type of panty waste work load. Rumor has it the Yoga instructor was let go in the layoffs.

This is exactly the same mindset as you had when you made your comment on Dahlin to send him down to AHL. (i never stated you yelled for a trade, i just copied your own comment

You see, we see this differently and i believe it is because you dont really understand. Dahlin in on his 3rd season in NHL, 21 years old. 2 of those seasons with the most dumb and idiotic coach who basicly taught Dahlin to be scared and afraid to make misstakes and that is not how you teach a young player to become a star, that is how you teach a player to keep making misstakes.

Dahlin has great both defensive and offensive skills and boy does it tell last 10 games, let a player with Rasmus skillset make misstakes and learn and coach him the right way and he will improve - it's simple math. Viktor Headman was #2 pick, go back and look at his career and you'll see that he didnt become what he is today over his first 3 seasons in the NHL.

Speaking of Jack now and what this really is about, is that i firmly believe he can shoulder the captain role beeing mentored correctly and that has not been the case.
We're all different but with the correct mentor you can do amazing things. Jack was to young when he got the C, we all know that now, maybe he still is but if you dont show and mentor a young player how to lead - then he will just look lost. Maybe Jack isnt Captain material after all, who knows, all i know is that to me it seams the mentor part has been missing.

Dahlin does not have great defensive skills. Your definition of defensive skills is obviously different than mine. Being able to play a  2 on 1 is your basic skill set which he lacks. He is consistently on the wrong side of the puck in the D zone and the list goes on.

" Dahlin Sucks. The Sabres organization has given him so much rope....it’s time to reel him in. Send his A#&*&@“)( Down! "

This is your comment, and look at Dahlin now. I dont really think you understand what pressure and missleading coaching can do to a young player.

Oh you are quite wrong. You have taken this out of context. RK was in my opinion ensconced in the HC position and if that’s the case Dahlin needed a change of scenery to build back his confidence. No where did I state “ Trade him right F€£”;/-& G Now!
Coaches can make or break a players and by the way Dahlin still needs to learn to be a better defender.
If you can find me a young defenseman with Dahlin’s offensive skills and McCabes defending....that my friend is a #1 pick.
and of course when his contract is renewed we will do as we always do....Overpay him!

Hold up... if they remove the disk, don't the adjacent vertebrae eventually fuse together?   That can't be good in the neck area for a hockey player.

Hockey injury to me, Dang Beer league. Shoved into the boards from behind. Shattered disc. So they cut you open,  vacuum it out, put some bone marrow in and plate and screw it. No problem since. Payton Manning has had it done four times.   But long term its an issue. Like driving a car and no shock absorbers

The biggest problem with anything like this is there are far too many variables not being taken into account.

Was Tom Wilson seen as far better than Grigorenko or Girgensons at the time?

Hindsight is 20/20 and judging their drafting based on what we know 4 years or more after the point is rather pointless.

Nylander over Sergachev, McAvoy, or Chychrun is a solid criticism because even at the time it was deemed a risky/disliked pick.

Reinhart was ranked higher than Draisital in most scouting lists.

Grigorenko was considered by central scouting to be better than all but about 5 players overall.

While this does mean their scouting failed; it isn't as if they drafted random players that a large number of other teams wouldn't of taken. We have an average to below average track record. But that's it.

One BIG variable not taken into account is the overall failure rate of the NHL Draft. The draft as a whole has a bust rate of over 80% when looked at in it’s entirety. The main issue is age, they are scouting 16 yr olds. In other pro sports players declare when they are ready. We are drafting/ scouting players who haven’t even hit puberty. Look no further that the Sean Day fiascos. At 14 he played for Compuware and was a beast. He was considered the second coming of Chris Pronger! He was given exceptional status and that usually is a straight arrow to number one draft pick! As he grew he lost interest, got slow and fat! He was under the microscope of every nhl scouting department for years! Who did that work out?

I NHL could’ve change things this year and made a huge ripple effect in hockey .....change the draft to 20-year-olds! But the OHL mucked that up.

Dahlin wasn't at fault this game.

As a matter of fact, you can see the difference between Krueger and Granato. Dahlin, as well as a couple other D are much more aggressive on the offensive side. Just so happens, in OT, with 3 on 3, it cost us.

Be advised, I have no problem with the loss. You play to what you deserve, and this particular Sabres roster deserves every loss they are accumulating. Make no mistake, this team, is that bad.

He was at fault! On the game tying goal he was stationary in front of Ulmark . When the pass came over to the flyer player four feet in front of Dahlin, a bantam AAA dman would know to jump out and put pressure.  He doubts himself at every phase of the game

  9. 10 minutes ago, Randall Flagg said:

His mishandling triggered the change in possession that ultimately led to the goal, though I do agree that the other two are more at fault for the goal. I don't really think we have the guys available to put in his place, but this didn't help the Sabres win and it isn't going to help Dahlin's likely deteriorating mental state.

Mental State? He has a wing to himself in the Buffalo Psychiatric Center

If this is true about UPL, it’s pretty bad. I get the concept of wanting to play with your shiny new toy, but sometimes it’s one of those toys that you have to stick in water  and wait for it to grow.

This is a very poor take. Someone in this position doesn’t just “let the chips fall where they may.” That type of person has a better pulse on what’s going on, and makes the appropriate changes. Especially after a decade of experience at this point.

Is it the owner or the generational talent we should be more disappointed in! The penguins tanked twice and embarrassingly so. Once to get The next one and the second time to get The kid. Both times it paid off. We tanked an all we got was “Jack-ed”

You seem like a real insider.  Tell me, please, sir or ma'am, what's the real story behind the Lafontaine resignation?

Who cares? Do you really think that’s going to help Dahlin play fr&#)#”g defense.

since you Buffalonians seem to dwell on the past so much find out why Lafontaine quit six weeks into his stint as an advisor to the islanders and why he is not working in the NHL today. Just maybe the problem lies with him, not your owners

Agree. They are not penny pinchers at all. Fracking  is not a hockey franchise and I doubt the Pegulas ran it day to day. Their money purchased leases and contractors fracked . No comparison. I also think they're nice people and community minded but again that has nothing to do with running a hockey franchise. Ten years of futility and we think they're doing a good job because they spend and are community minded? Being nice and generous doesn't matter if you are not operating this franchise in a successful way.

But it’s a Business and they are successful business people. Warren Buffet bought Dairy Queen on the spot for $580 M.....cash deal. Do you think he knows how to mix the Blizzard ? If you go back to Dairy Queen ten times and your blizzard sucks do you whine for new owner ship? I am so tired of all you peeps whining about the owners. If I were the Pegulas I would be embarrassed at the employees I have hired! Rip the C off Jacks jersey! That would be the start!

    Is your last name Pegula?

No but I can tell tell your a  whining Buffalonian! Like I said you can’t have your cake an eat it too. You have a rich owner who treats the players well, is from Buffalo, supports the community, builds a winner in the bills, is passionate about his businesses and wants to win but the chips don’t fall his way in one out of three. I wish the Pegulas didn’t glide to the bench like Eichel

Frankly I'm of the opinion they purely lucked out with the Bills in hiring the coach who picked the GM. Also hockey and football are different.

I don’t think they got lucky building a fracking empire from a $75k loan! I believe the opposite to be true. The have been unlucky when it comes to the Sabres. On TSN Sports They were just talking about the Pegulas. nobody in the NHL or other players whine about the Sabres organization being penny pinchers that they don’t treat players well , they are involved in the community that they give back to community! the only thing they don’t do for the Buffalonians is Win Baby,

One word! Ownership. Not coaching, GM's  or the equipment manager. Ownership responsible for all of it.

When everyone, including the media whine about ownership the conveniently forgot these are the same owners of the Buffalo Bills! Bills organization is glowing talked about on every media publication and on the airwaves from the east coast to the west as the shining example of how a winning organization should be built.
Well aren’t these the same owners? What the Pegulas know how to run football and not hockey? it’s called business and he is a very successful business man.
