Well, I don't want to see them (the Sabres) say it this year or next, but it would be refreshing to see a (non-Sabres) GM interviewed right after stepping off the podium saying 'we like what Frenchy McDraftpick will do for our squad, but we really wanted that kid that went right before him, he's got Lemieux's size and Wayne's instincts - there's no way he'll miss and we missed him by 1; but still we think Frenchy'll be a keeper.'

    Frenchy SUCKS!

  2. Steve Ott making $4.5-$5 at 37 years old?

    Let me correct that:

Steve Ott making $4.5-$5 at 31 years old?

I wouldn't sign any of those deals. If you're going to throw whacky money at somebody then do it with Stastny.

Stastny's agent is on the phone now. He'll do it but he wants 7x8 from us.

    What's that? Ya me either!

I previously have said all along Vanek is going to get 9 mil. Despite it all I still think he will but maybe not from Minny.

The silly season is but days away and these GM's who need relief from themselves are going to be in a frenzy even more so due to the lack of high end guys.

So like I said 5x5 for Bolland. Ott I guess the same.

I understand Eleven (getting angry now) and Tanks feelings and would say I share them, But the wookie and me seem to realize whats on the radar more than you guys. Did you see the deal Markov got? How freaking stupid is that? But they did it. These deals are going down and we need to accept if not ever understand them.

Now then, who's got that goofy Ron Paul it's happening gif? or do we wait until The official start of silly season? The extra days of hype are going to contribute even more to these deals on top of it all.

The team needs to find analogues from the guys who were here in '72-'73. Find them. (And none of them would have been high-priced free agents even if free agency existed then.) Those are the guys I want to train the Sabs' young'uns.

I think this off season, or actually the next few weeks is going to be fun and some stuff we'll love, and some we surely won't but the approach and tactic of GMTM is already a breath of fresh air. I'm sure if he had his way he wouldn't even need to spend to the cap floor this year. But my friend, the times they are a changing.

  4.

    PLEASE NO

Understood. But I really never want to see Matty Ellis in a Sabres uniform again. Or Kanopka, Scott, and several others so money is no issue and we will need bodies. And good teammates for those that are here. Close to home, cup winning experience, two or three years younger than Ott maybe, could maybe score 20, add some grit and the overpay is something that's not an issue to us. I could see an argument for him.

  5.

No, they finished last becasue they flat out sucked. At one point they were down to their 7th string goaltender. They traded away all the big name pending UFA's. They went through a GM change, a coaching change, the Lafontaine debacle............. they didn't do all that for the purpose of tanking. Granted they didn't do anything to try and imporve the situation,

    **raises hand**

That's not really fair. They did bring in Dagostini, Konopka and Conacher to right the ship!

  6. I really hope Florida picks Ekblad.

Then there might be a huge change that we can make a trade with the Oilers that see us end up with the 2nd and 3rd overall pick. Question is what Defender would Edmonton want from Buffalo. They would also get a 2nd pick round as they dont pick until the 4th round. Buffalo has 3 2nd rounders so HELLO EDMONTON! But what Defender would Edmonton want? Pysyk? Ristolainen? Zadorov? McCabe?

If they trade Zadorov I would be stunned and disheartened. That dude is Chris Pronger for us for a decade + He is the absolute untradeable guy to me and Girgs is a very close second who I envision growing up to Mark Messier.

  7. 19 pairs of back-to-backs. Isn't that on par with the two season the Sabres lead the league in that department?

Sabres bitched about so many back to backs. League fixed that by taking away a lot of weekend games.

Sabres bitched about so many weekday games and not enough weekend games. League fixed that by adding a lot of back to backs.

Sabres wont bitch about it this year as it will help the tanking?

  8. Just an unbiased question:

Are all those tank "preachers" owner of season tickets?

I would suggest they are'nt, but I would love to hear from those who are season ticket owners.

If I would not be living in Germany but in Buffalo I believe I would, depending on my salary, own season tickets.

But then I would like to see a competetive team instead of a tank galore and would pray for a big splash from GMTM.

    What do you think?

Season ticket holder here. I've said this before but I'll say it again. No way we are finishing last in the second year under Nolan.

With some interesting moves we could seriously improve. While I would like to win the prize at the end of next season by winning draft lotto, this past season was simply to much to endure as a season ticket holder. So I renewed my tickets! The arena experience was worse than stepping in steaming hot dog ###### with no shoes on.

If we do finish last I expect to see far more entertaining hockey next season and think it will be a goalies fault if we end up dead last. I would be quite happy with a season like that. If we end up with another first for this draft tank nation is over.

  9. My take away from that is he wants size and referred to guys being Buffalo Sabres size. In talking of Ennis I think he likes enough to sign him long term. But if Tyler doesn't want a long term deal he can say goodbye.

I have nothing bad to say about Tim's appearance. He looks better than me! But I will say he may want to get that Gerd checked out!

I am so glad to have Tim Murray as our GM.

  10.

I absolutely hate the unwritten rules about not offering RFAs. "Free agent" is in there for a reason. So is restricted. Don't low ball but pay what you value that player as. If their team won't ante up it's not your fault. There are compensation system, too.

It's for weasels. It should not be allowed. It even got Weasel Darcy fired up for what happened and he would never stoop to that level to use it. The GM's that done it, without knowing off the top of my head are also probably no longer employed.

Edit: I'm sure we would have given Vanek his proper worth at the time. What he got was a joke. Looks good on the Oil that they have managed to screw up so bad even with all those number 1's.

  11.

Do you offer-sheet a Linden Vey, Jeremy Morin, or somebody like that...it is what Murray always talks about, right?

I hope we NEVER offer sheet anyone. It's garbage and we of all people know it. The hockey gods will be coming around for us instead of against us very soon.

  12.

I'll take all 3, Orpik and Shawn Thorton and trade Ehrhoff. That'd be a group of good characters for our many youngsters to learn from.

1 for each offensive line, Ellis captains Rochester and Orpik would bring a vet leader for the D. Get 1 more vet Dman and then fill the roster with whosever left so we can limit the amount of youngsters on this losing franchise. Plus all the forwards would be of use for the next 5 years or so thus helping the transition.

    Moulson-Ennis-Stafford

    Hodgson-Girgs-Callahan

    Ott-Foligno-Stewart

    Thorton-Flynn-Kaleta

I can't quite figure out what to do with Stewart or Stafford in the end, we just have so much riffraff that trying to set up a solid group of vets is a tad difficult. The other three players I see future problems with are Hodgson, Foligno, and Kaleta since in the assumption we take Reinhart and "McDavid" I can't fit those 3 + the other two comfortably.

    Moulson-McDavid- Girgs?

    Ennis-Reinhart-(Stafford/Stewart)

    Ott- Hodgson- Callahan

    Thorton-Foligno-Flynn

    Kaleta

    Risto-Zadorov

    Myers-Pysyk

    McCabe-Weber/Orpik

You do realize that line up makes the playoffs right?

  13. Stafford was not worth the some months ago. We even ripped the A of his name.

And now he will probably the C for our team.

Rock bottom was not reached yet.

This is Buffalo lol! We are so bad that people seem to forget about that losing the A thing.

No worries though. With Ott coming back he will be wearing the C again. Not saying he's all that but he more than proved capable and will allow young guys to mature and will certainly stick up for them and yap for them. I think he comes back knowing he signs a nice five year deal that keeps him here for some glory years for being willing to endure the bottom for a couple.

  14. With the exception of the last quarter of the season when he was stuck picking up everybody elses slack because half the roster wasn't capable of playing at an NHL level, he has been a professional. He never went through the motions, he usually looked like he enjoyed being there (whether he actually did or not) and there was very little on the roster to compliment his strengths. If he wants to go, get him out. If he hasn't made mention of being traded I don't see why it would be a priority. I doubt there was a D-man in the league last year that played so many minutes and had to cover for so many inadequacies of everybody else around him.

What defensive veterans? Myers? Weber? Weber is a borderline NHL D-man and Myers hasn't proven anything yet. A short stretch of games does not make up for the last 3 years of underachievements. Ehrhoff is the very least of this teams concerns.

Of course, that's just my opinion.

I get your points. I was thinking of free agent pick up or someone coming back in a trade.

I respect your opinion and I also have one. Or maybe the veteran guy could be McBain. :w00t:

  15.

He's been a damn good D-man. I can't hold the last quarter of this past season against him. I'm for keeping him if he wants to stay. No matter how much people want to tear a team apart and start from scratch, you need some veterans no matter how you look at it.

I'm fine with a veteran who looks and acts like he wants to be here. A la Ott. I'm not fine with a vet that looks and acts like he'd rather not be stuck on a full blown rebuild. Or someone whose skill is so far deteriorated like Hank. Much as like him there are other vets that could contribute much more for us.

  16. Buy out period starts on the 15th untill the 30th or when "after" the stanley cup final is over.

So yeah they can already buy him out :D

I believe the rule is the 15th or 48 hours after the cup is awarded. Either way Monday should be the end. This is the end...
