  1. A lot more doom and gloom than when I used to post here. With ROR and Eichel in the lineup this team is a 95 point team based on the numbers.

That's not even considering D injuries.

I think I might put some money on this team making a run.

Also Tyler Ennis is great and all but I don't want him on this team next year, hopefully he goes at the deadline.

  2. Eh.  if they can pull off a winning streak they'll be right in it.  The reason we're both a bottom dweller and a bubble team is that no one's really running away with the lower playoff spots this season.  Play .550 hockey and add in a streak or two and they could very well end up in the playoffs.

I wonder what everyone thinks is gonna happen. I am guessing the Sabres finish with 93 points.

  3. Skating involves muscles you don't even know you have, but you sure feel them burn when you are learning. Those have to be developed and you do it with more skating. Hurts like hell but you have to do it.

My ankles are so strong I have not had a twist or sprain in decades.

yup! playing hockey growing up and then to basketball soccer and lacosse. I have never worn cleats or basketball shoes that were over the ankle. I have also never sprained my ankle. It is pretty crazy

  4. You clearly didn't watch him closely enough.

I did. Sekera was a good D-man who was not used to his strengths. He was probably one of the 4 best d men in the 2010 games as well. Watching him there I knew something was wrong, he needed the change of scenery though and I think the return was about even at this point.

  5. I however can believe that Bode Miller only finished 8th. Because he's always been a big fat choker! Hes a 5 event skier whose been in 3 Olympics and he never fails to underwhelm. He's probably praying to the god of drunken ski racers that he doesn't get shut out again like he did in Turino '06.

This is the reason my dogs name is Bodhi, after Swayze in Point Break, and not Bode....

He does always seem to choke in the olympics

  6. There is a lot of variety in the housing within a reasonable drive of most of the metro area- everything from downtown lofts to historic city homes to post-war suburbia to suburban sprawl to acreage. If he's moving there for work, find out where his office is and maybe I can steer him toward some areas to look at.

He is moving there to retire

  7. Yeah, I've been reading this thread too and wondering if I want to stay put. We've been in our home for 17 years and want to change neighborhoods. So not only do we need to go through all the angst of buying a home, we also have to sell our current home first. And it needs some work. So on top of all the buying headaches, I have the fix up and sell headaches too, and the headaches of deciding whether to buy on contingency or to just rent for 6 months or a year to get the sale completely done before buying a new one (which means moving twice). The good news, at least, is that I'm in Fort Worth where the bubble never really overinflated home prices. I can get everything I want for $300k but if I'm picky/willing to compromise on some things, I may be able to find something to make me happy in the $150k-200k range. Basically I want to move from 1980s suburban sprawl to a historic city neighborhood.(where the wife and I spend much of our social time anyway).

My father is relocating in the next year and is now seriously considering the DFW area. He said he can get a beautiful three bedroom ranch for 125-150..... I was amazed

  8. Above you will find the predictions for a full 68 game junior season from some of the top prospects. For those who have played additional games I have adjusted those numbers. I also added in Jake Virtanen.

    Michael Dal Colle: 32g, 42a, 74pts, 52gp = 42g, 55a, 97pts, 68gp

    Sam Bennett: 28g, 47a, 75pts, 45gp = 42g, 71a, 113pts, 68gp

    Sam Reinhart: 25g, 45a, 70pts, 41gp = 41g, 75a, 116pts, 68gp

    Jake Virtanen: 32g, 18a, 50pts, 53gp = 41g, 23a, 64pts, 68gp

That is the update from the last time I did this. Sometime after the Olympics perhaps I will do it again for fun.

What if the Islanders defer. Next year we suck again and finish last by a couple of points. The Islanders finish 4/5th and win the lottery. We then draft 1st and 2nd overall. McDavid and Eichel become Buffalo Sabres... #winning

I literally think something crazy like that is going to happen. I also think we will have so many picks that if we do get the first I think we can package enough to have the second as well.

  9. Counter to Eleven's first statement: Use a realtor who is patient with you (will not be irritated taking you to see LOTS of homes) and less likely to worry about whether your purchase is too small a fish to bother angling for. Age really has nothing to do with this; it's a question of personality. We had a realtor in Detroit who was in his 50s and he was the most awesome realtor EVAR. He still sends us a Christmas card and we moved from there in '97.

We are most likely working with a younger realtor who some friends went through. Hw works with a few older realtors as well and it seems like he will be able to give us the best of both worlds and is perfectly in line with what you and eleven said.

Best way to learn that I've found is to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. You get to see how a house is put together from the start, and many chapters offer classes (toward their leadership program) in home building that will give you a good primer. Since you're volunteering for them, the instruction is essentially free.

I have done that lol and I am incredibly handy. I dont plan on getting a total fixer upper but I might take out a wall or do one large project myself.

  10. I actually used to play magic as a teen, and I played in a local tournament here. It was pretty loose, but it was regulated since there were prizes. I got to the "championship" but the other guy got me disqualified before we got going because I had different color sleeves on my cards which wasn't allowed... Even though nobody else had a problem with it. And I'm not even smart enough to think to use different sleeves for different cards to cheat.

  11. I went to a friday night magic thing last weekend and it was followed by a midnight tournament with new cards that were coming out. It was my first of such events (my girlfriend has been obsessed with magic for the last ~2 months or so) and I won a bunch. Went 3-2 in constructed (her little bro made me a deck) and 5-1 in limited where you make your own deck with packs you just opened.I would've let that go if this thread was more on track but here's my offering to the board: I'm a ###### nerd.
