  1. Joe was a poet, IMO, so I really like this cover of a great song by another great poet ... Bob Marley.

The one small issue I have with Joe was in 1980 (or there about) he had his teeth fixed.  By then the punk scene had pretty much morphed into new wave and Joe went along with it in a great way.

I just played "All lost in the Supermarket" at an open mic, followed by "Wrong Em Boyo", which in researching I didn't realize they hadn't written (the original is great) . Truly an underrated band. My all time fave.....great to see someone else wit the love. I was a kid when John Lennon died and I remember how sad everyone was. For me it was Joe. Miss his big heart and great songs.

  2. I pay for DirectV just so I can watch the Sabres games. I watch the Bills in my shop over a an antennae and feel I pay for it in the endless erectile disfunction and beer ads I am forced to watch. When a game is on the NFL Network I head out to watch with friends. My wife watches Game of Thrones on HBO. We spend over 1300 dolars a year on this and everything else we watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime which have their own fees.

With the Disney News yesterday it's clear a streaming world is the future. I want to pay to watch legally, but not 1200 dollars legally. I am sure it has been said that Center Ice blacks out local games and I am not interested in IP spoofing. I own a software company and understand rights. So does anyone know of a legal way and or have knowledge of anything coming anytime soon that would resolve this?

  3. Went to All Greater Rochester awards banquet. My son is an awesome Nordic skier. Great event with Kyle Williams and Jack Eichel. Great interviews by Sal M. Anyway Jack admitted he was proud to be at awards but would rather be in Vegas. You could feel the fire.

  4. I really thankful I don't have some weird hate for Housley because he wasn't tough enough. Advantage of not being old enough during his time here.

No axe to grind. If you lived through his playing career here, it was a pretty big let down. If they made the playoffs they lost right away. I always wished he played offense and that we did have a tougher defense. But playing careers and coaching are two different thing. #betterthanbylsma

  5. My premise is based on how most Sabres Fan disliked Phil due to his finesse style. They wanted Schoney or some defenseman that would rip your face off.

This. I was in that camp. He even got his number. I was incensed. But you couldn't deny his talent. But that was a rough patch for the Sabres.

  6. I'm with the yse325 regarding developement........All this talk of making the Amerks better is refreshing. I live in the Roch area and the product on ice is not good. It's too expensive to take my whole family to see the Sabres, but we used to go see Amerks games and always had fune, even if it was almost always a loss and the arena was lifeless. Here is to a brighter future.

  7. JSB, my condlences,p.

One of my bulldogs . He's been through so much. Surgery to repair tworuptured vertebrae, cancerous tumors on his leg. Has been a complete sweetheart through it all. Probably helps that he's so dumb he barks at his own farts, but still. Always happy, always up and at 'em (the vets at VA Tech, where we had to go for the spinal surgery, said he was likely in severe pain for months before his legs stopped working, but never let on) and always, again a sweetheart.

His legs are giving out on him again. I dunno that there's anything else we can do for him. He just keeps on keeping on, but I remember the words of the vet when he blew up his spine... is he in pain? Drives me and my wife nuts. Don't want him to suffer, can't tell that he is. Think he might be, but then again....

This is the complaint thread, but "is circling the drain (a phrase I picked up from my ICU nurse wife)" just made me laugh out loud. Imaging the nurses station patient report in. BTW.....Sorry for every bodies pet problems. We grow so close.

I have a very overconfident customer who is quick to point the finger at perceived faults in our software when every time his problems have been the "garbage in, garbage out" variety. Because he's on a 30 day money back guarantee, I've had to politely walk on eggshells and not make him look bad, when in fact he's the biggest arrogant jerk I may have ever worked with, who should own his mistakes. And he refuses to finish his training.

  8. I'm old.

    1. London Calling (least favorite song is "London Calling")

    2. My aim is true -Elvis Costello

    3. CCR's greatest hits (guilty pleasure. Great band, Great songwriting)

    4. Who's next or Quadraphenia

    5. Talking Heads - Remain in Light.

  9. I wouldn't go on my desert island without ...

    1) London Calling

    2) Queen Greatest Hits

    3) Classic Queen

    4) Legend - Bob Marley

    5) Live At Fillmore East

    That's all.

Shame on you if you need to look them up.

    Great thread

It took 6 pages for the Clash to show up. Like a streaking comet a short lived but absolutely brilliant band. Still sound fresh today. Amazed that my teenage children have glommed onto them. I grew up in a tiny town and they opened up the world to me.

Other things. Agree.....DMB can't keep mediocrity at bay. Wasn't a huge Beatles fan until I started playing their music. And there are many great musicians, but not as many great songwriters. I value the latter most (see Bob Dylan).

  10. hahahaha!!!!!!

He's owned the Sabres for over 6 years now - does he still qualify as 'new'?   LOL

We need one of those old Microsoft Office Assistant images captioned -

"It looks like you're trying to run an NHL Team.  Would you like help?"

    • Get Help with running the Team
    • Just Run the team without help.
    • Don't show me this tip again"

This is what it has come to. I thought the tank was as low as it could get.

  11. You kids who don't remember Schoney, he was the real deal to me. There aren't many pro players in any sport that I idolize, but as a kid only 10 when they became a franchise, and growing through my teens as a true Sabres fan, he was the real deal to me with great heart. Backed up his teammates, played hard, and could skate. Plus he'd beat the snot out of anyone who messed with his goalies or the skill guys.

  12. I'm sorry about your dad. One of the biggest reasons your enthusiasm for a team can wane is when someone you've watched the games with passes away. It's almost like it's not really about the sport at all. With the Bills, when my dad died, and then my mom -- who was the true original troll, cheering for every team that played the Bills -- the experience was never the same. And you're not a bad hockey dad. Times have changed. It's all about the dollars now. Look at Fan "Appreciation" Night. I remember when they added ads to the boards and a sponsor to the scoreboard at the Aud. It was pretty jarring. It was also the beginning of the end.

Thanks for that. It's true that even when I'd go with my kids I'd be thinking about memories with my folks. Walking down the echoing tunnels at the old Aud because we usually sat in the Oranges and singing "Ooh Ahhh, Sabres on the Warpath". My parents didn't have much money so we'd always park so far away I'd be frozen by the time we got to the car. Sit between the two on that big bench seat in the front of the station wagon.  You are right. It's different.

  13. I'm 55. I was 10 when the Sabres came to be. First game was the "Fog Game". Look at posts for details. Watched or listened to every game for all but the college years and the years I couldn't tune them into my AM radio at night when I listened from Westchester county. Moved into my current house when the Dallas thing happened.....had to go to a bar and watch because we couldn't afford cable. Went to a playoff game in every series since Philadelphia in 76.

But this was by far the worst. For a few reasons.....lost my Dad who took me to my first game back in the aud and the thought that I could be like my mom and uncle and him who just watched ten years of bad hockey and then........

Took my kids to three games. No atmosphere. Lifeless play. Stupid turnovers. Ineffective coaching. And just a bad game experience. I tried to talk it up, try to make the kids feel what a real hockey experience could be like. Realization that they will probably never catch hockey fever watching this crap. I feel like a failure as a hockey dad.

  14. My dad has been a season ticket holder for over twenty years. When he hit the ten year mark, he expected something small, some sort of card or thank you note. Needless to say, no such acknowledgment happened. When he hit 15 years and 20 years, he still thought maybe they'd send him a thank you card or show his name on the jumbotron acknowledging it. Nothing.

Not since Rigas owned the team have they cared one bit about the fans. I've got great memories growing up and going to STH skates at the rink, meeting every single Sabre on the team (including waiting in the longest line in history to meet Hasek), playing bubble hockey with Satan and Stu Barnes, hanging out with Geoff Sanderson, and watching the team race RC cars around the rink. It's too bad the younger fans now will never get to experience that.

I'm not upset about not having a single bobblehead or any cool collectables from the team. What bothers me is the complete lack of appreciation they have for people who spend their hard earned money year in, and year out. They wouldn't give two shits if a STH cancelled their package, they'd simply call the next person on the waiting list and take their money and run.

The past few seasons I've had to talk my dad into keeping his tickets. He's down from going to 20 games a year to less than 5. Every game he goes to they seem to lose, and every season they raise the price on him. I wouldn't want to go either.

Great Post. I take my kids to a game each year. It's not the same. They are fans because I'm a fan. No connection. When Jerry Korab gave me a stick at the old aud I was a fan forever.

  15. The Pegulas took over mid October, 2014.   So we can't reasonably credit them with the 9-7 winning record the Bills posted that year.

The first FULL season of ownership, they slid to 8-8, and then of course 7-9 last year.   The defense, which was ranked in the top 5 in fall 2014,  was one of the worst in the NFL last season.    Special teams also took a tank.

It doesn't make much sense to argue that 7-9 is better than 9-7.   Looks like they're going backwards in a hurry.

Now for the Sabres and injuries... O'Reilly, Eichel, and Kane have been in the lineup pretty regularly since the All Star Break.  And the team has only made 14 pts in 19 games.   They're 6-11-2 since the All Star Break.  That's a 60 pt per year tank pace.

What injuries are to blame for this latest slump?  Okposo has been gone for a number of those games... but he was in the lineup for the first 3 back to back post All Star game losses;  2 of them against the 2 worst team in the NHL - Colorado and Arizona.

We shouldn't let Bylsma, et al weasel out of this with the old 'injury excuse'.  Every team is gonna have some injuries, and to some key personnel, during the October to April season.  Part of the game.

Sabres have been playing like a 60 pt team since the All Star break - that's all that really matters -  and I want to see Bylsma and Murray with some ownership and accountability for this team's dismal performance this season.

    This.

  16. I tore the window clings off m car last night I was so p%*(d. Yes it was a childish outburst I'm not proud of. But I hate Toronto and to see all those smug fans in our seats falls on ownership. I'd sell my tickets too rather than watch this misery.  I'm still a fan, but I'm embarrassed about the state of the team and "suffering". I got texts last night from my die hard Ranger, Flyers and Sens friends after the 3-0 beat down start.

How many years can this go on? I took my kids to losses this year and the energy level was so low. Blaming that on anything other than dysfunction is myopic.  To me it falls on ownership, GM and coach.  Until Bylsma is gone and possibly Murray, I'll not be advertising this team and "suffering" on anyone by flouting my gear.

  17. ^^^ Yup - the pecuiliar, dysfunctional org structure the Pegulas have saddled their teams with might work great for making family vacation decisions, but the results clearly suck for competitive sports teams.

BTW, there's been much ado about the Sabres' 'resurgence' after New Years.  I just reviewed the record for January- if the Sabres lose tomorrow in regulation against the Habs, they'll have earned 14 points in 14 games in January.  1 point per game.  That's basically what they achieved over last season.   And that's with Eichel, O'Reilly, Ennis, etc.  It may be better than December, but 'better' is a relative term.

82 points on a season is still stinkburger hockey, and doesn't show much improvement from 2015 to 2016.

I'm having a Monday......thanks for making it worse.

  18. Watching this right now. It is unfair, but the Sabres will wait. (With any luck they will get better). I lost my mother suddenly when she was 67. Not a day goes buy that I don't go to reach for my phone to call her and then remember.........and yeah "your mom IS your mom"

Seeing your appreciation of the beauty of your surroundings and watching  this video makes me want to buy you a beer and watch a Sabres game together. There will be time for that........

  19. Stuff like this is something I'm very conscious of. Being in the solar industry, my major goals for any home I live in is to spend time making them more efficient and more "in-tune" with nature.

Someday I'd like to do a new build that makes use of features like you mention. I want to experiment with natural air flow for cooling in the summer too.

Your in the solar industry? In what capacity? I went solar through my whole house using SED last summer. Awesome stuff.

  20. Good stuff. That would have been my choice as well.

I didn't mean that in a derogatory way towards Scott at all, more towards Bettman and the pukes who tried to deny Scott and the fans what so many of us voted for. I love the grinder type players. Ray, May, Mair, Kaleta, and Scott have been some of my favorite past Sabres just like Deslauriers is now.

I was guessing that is what you meant. One of the great sports moments watching with my two sons. And you are right about Deslauriers.
