  1. That's a head scratcher. Let's draft him 3rd overall and then flip him for a 15-30 pick.

It's a whole new front office staff, ownership included. It's' possible they don't value a 1st round RB as much as the last group, or perhaps Trent's evaluation since the draft has changed due to injury.
  2. Good, now maybe they can trade Byrd. That sluff just wanted to skip camp.

It was the only leverage he had to try to force the long term deal he wanted, and after July 15 to try to force a better 1 year deal for himself that included a clause not allowing the tag next year. The Bills were content to allow him to sit it out.
  3. Head case doesn't necessarily mean maturity issues. He's had bad routes, lined up in the wrong places, and given half hearted efforts way more than an undrafted rookie should.

There was also an issue in mini camp relating to taunting one of his teammates after a catch that Marrone was displeased with.
  4. Prior to the Zadorov pick:

Devine: You wanna get tougher to play against

Darcy: Yeah I do want to, I do want to

    Pegula: Yeah I think so

Darcy: I want to get tougher to play against

    Pegula: That's the route.

The information I'd like to know is does he ever disagree, and if so does Darcy and Kevin have to do whatever he says. He had a voice with regards to that pick.

  5. What's going to happen with Lindell and Hopkins? Hopkins is pretty damn good for a kid but Lindell has been our only good player for a decade.

Writing is on the wall for Lindell, makes far too much for a kicker who can't get touchbacks on kickoffs and can't be relied upon for attempts over 50 yards. Plus the draft pick investment on Hopkins.
  6. How much of it is the same staff? I didn't pay too much attention to the hirings, so pretty much all I'm aware of is that the DC wasn't a part of that Syracuse group.

Mostly the offensive staff came over with Marrone. OC Nate Hackett, WR coach Ike Hilliard, RB Tyrone Wheatley and TE Greg Adkins.
  7. So when career executive Whaley is hired from inside without any comprehensive search it's "he's an up-and-comer who's been groomed for the job?"

When career coach Rolston is hired from inside without any comprehensive search it's "same old lame Sabres?"

    Just asking....

He was with the Pittsburgh Steelers for ten years prior to his time here, during which they won two Super Bowls

  8.

No, I am basing it on everything I have read and everyone I have talked to and everything I have seen. If Geno went in the 2nd EJ Manuel was not going in the first if the Bills didn't take him. He is a late 2nd early 3rd round pick at best so you can take your  somewhere else. Like I said I think Manuel can succeed and be good but it is about maximizing the picks you have and drafting him in the first when he would have been there in the 3rd, fail.

"Bills Banter (Other thoughts on the Bills' 2013 draft class): The days following the draft are especially enlightening because scouts are more willing to share their unbiased opinions on drafted players.

The selection of Manuel has been criticized and certainly surprised many (including me) who theorized head coach Doug Marrone and offensive coordinator Nate Hackett would stick with who they knew and draft Ryan Nassib, the passer they'd worked with at Syracuse.

The perception by many is that the Bills' selection of Manuel at No. 16 overall was a reach. Representatives from multiple teams have told me, however, that they saw the former Florida State star as the top quarterback in the 2013 draft class. One highly placed source for a team other than the Bills said Manuel was the best "by a wide margin."

It is easy to understand why. Dual-threat quarterbacks took the league by storm last year and Manuel possesses an intoxicating combination of physical traits to go along with toughness and intelligence." http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/blog/rob-rang/22203399/finding-the-fits-alonso-could-star-as-qb-of-bills-defense

  9. Ugh. Are we saying that the Bills need to use their current draft position (8th) in order to take a chance on a potentially (likely?) crappy QB? I heard this class compared to the class of 2000, which is when Chad Pennington went mid-first-round and then no other QB came off the board until early round 3 (and that guy was from Hofstra and, as far as I can recall, never had an NFL career).

and some guy from Michigan, he's been pretty good. :)

If they feel like there is a guy who has an opportunity to be a solid NFL QB they can't afford to get cute and worry about moving back and getting him later, they are in such a terrible position that they need to make certain that they get him.

  10. Hodgson possibly asked for a trade:

Hodgson's camp and head coach have not always seen eye to eye. Because of that Gillis was asked if Hodgson's crew asked for a trade.

"That's an internal thing I'm not going to comment about," he said.

It was pointed out to Gillis that his non-answer will lead to rampant speculation that Hodgson did in fact ask for a trade.

"Well, there will be speculation that he did, then," Gillis said. "Things that happen behind closed doors in our offices are not for public consumption.

"I'm not going to discuss it."
