  1. Right, we save money on his contract by cutting him. But if we take on Smith, that'll be $21.6 million in addition to the $8 million dead cap. So $29.6 million for average quarterbacking versus $18 million for just keeping Tyrod.

I think the number for Smith is $17M, not $21.6; $3.6M would stay with KC as dead cap due to signing bonus. Slight change, but worth noting.

  2. Yup, you got it. Keeping it simple to start, just files. Simple illustrations for the SavetheDates. Simple illustrated maps (reception/ceremony locations). Bridal party who's who program stuff, table "numbers" (sit at table 6, or groom's favorite movie- illustration)...

Something my wife and I spent money on at our wedding was a poster sized illustration for guests to sign at the reception, which is now framed and in our attic :)

  3. However, my understanding (which could be well off base) is that Cousins will cost $35MM to $40MM and Alex Smith will cost $25MM to $30MM.  At those prices, I'd rather have TT.

Open market may change things, but Stafford is most recent large QB contract, 6 year $135M - avg of $22.5M

  4. From what I understood (a long time ago), he's a credentialed former NFL scout/pro personnel guy. Walter Football is just one man's (or one site's) opinion, but it is from someone (or some people?) who worked in the biz.

    No, just a guy:

What began as a class project in 1999 became a career path after Cherepinsky departed Penn State with a journalism degree and, given the market for journalism jobs, lost a job selling mortgages. This was February 13, 2007 — the eve of Valentine’s Day. By that fall, Fantasy Sports Ventures had seen enough value in WalterFootball.com to sign Cherepinsky to a contract. When that deal expired, Cherepinsky latched on with Yardbarker, a subsidiary of Fox Sports Interactive.

I used to frequent this site because it gives comprehensive lists for free agents and the draft.

  5.

But it was a rational risk to take, in my eyes. It was also a decision tainted with some desire for self-preservation on the part of the decision makers, but that's almost always the case -- if the team is bad, the FO will be gone soon enough. They wanted to get better in a hurry. And so they rolled the dice on the big fella.

It was Buddy Nix's last act as GM. Sal C has stated recently that Buddy Nix was determined to provide a QB for the team before he retired and charged his staff with choosing the one they felt was best in that years class. EJ did not work out, but it's worth noting that they did also trade down prior to selecting him and ended up with extra 2nd and 7th round picks.

  6. That is literally what he says. That football players have to be ready for the weather just like "military people", because "military people" also have to deal with weather, which makes them basically the same.

Technically no, he literally said football players have to be ready for conditions just like military people.

I don't think the connection is as direct as weather to weather. I think he failed at trying to say there's adversity in each thing. He probably meant to get some nice PR by giving a shout out to the military, but it backfired.

    I think that's right

  7. I don't think the link correctly reflects the statement he was attempting to make. What he said was clunky and didn't make much sense, but I don't believe his point was to literally say the conditions were ‘no different’ from what the military goes through.

Below is the quote from McDermott:

“You never know what the conditions are, what you’re going to get, no different than our military people in terms of what they go through. We have to perform just like they do.”

  8. There's a pre 2015 draft youtube video of Eichel saying Buffalo I'm coming for you while pounding a beer. Was he legal aged at the time? I'm not so sure. Then there's Kane's well-known love of bars, parties and partying. And of course O'Reilly's first action as a Sabre was drunkenly crashing into a Tim Horton's. I haven't heard about Reinhart except as a tag-along or other prominent players.. But it might explain some of the uneven performances. So maybe Houston we have a problem. But think about that Tyler Seguin deal that the Bruins would probably rather have back before you deal any partiers.

He turned 21 like a month ago

  9. The cream will rise to the top. The Bills stink. We knew it before the season. We should know it now. Bad players = bad team.

The cream is very limited. That final spot is likely down to Bills-Raiders-Ravens. Bills have one game on the Ravens and two on the Raiders.

  10. Think he had one big injury where he missed an entire season, right? Other than that one thing he's been pretty healthy I think. Watkins is hurt for half the season every season

Watkins plays through it, but valid. I don't follow the Panthers enough to know Benjamin's injury history beyond games missed. It does appear he has a knee injury he's playing through now.

  11. Writing was probably on the wall when Yahoo laid off everyone save Him and Lambert.  It was a good run.

Hopefully he keeps his podcast w/ Jeff Marek going.  I could listen to Marek talk about hockey forever.

The podcast with Marek has been sparse of late. He has a new-ish one with Lozo, called Puck Soup.

I'm curious if he ends up with The Athletic.

  12. Straightforward is okay if that's all you're trying to do. The problem with Sabres twitter is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it cheeky fun twitter or fairly bland twitter? Who can tell. When it tries to be fun it just comes off as socially inept.

Agree with your assessment, I stopped following it. Target audience was maybe 8-12 year olds, or their parents who don't have time to really follow the team? Which is fine, but it wasn't informational or entertaining in any way, at least not for me.
