  1. Pipes. PIPES.

    Piiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppeeess.

    Good to read you, sir.

One of my favorite threads since you've been gone was PA's "trial" of Terry Pegula thread. The charge wound up being "meddling." I even did some lawyering stuff on it (like, I wrote a statute!), and got to act like a judge (Internet-al variety (I was terrible)). The prosecution sorta broke down when it was resolved, over some objections, that the charged conduct was, in point of fact, probably not "criminal" at all (X was instrumental in that regard, I think), and that the term "meddling" might, in fact, be synonymous with the term "owning."

Also, Kim Pegula and I are still not an item. Which is sad.

I am sorry I missed that one, I should have come back as soon as Darcy was let go ... especially given all the time I could have spent posting while sitting at the rink while my son was on the ice. He has become quite the rink rat.

I suspect I would have sided with the defense as well, I think Pegula has just been an owner ... not with the results we wanted yet but nothing insane. Granted, I have no inside details of the LaFontaine departure, but if Murray is the right guy, then LaFontaine did a good job and I thank him for his work.

    Yo

See this is the kind of insight I came back for. Can't get this just anywhere, folks. I've looked.

  2. I hope that what he does between now and October isn't viewed as proof of anything.Even if he executes his plan exactly as he wants to this offseason, plans change. We will need to see how he adapts before we really know what he's all about. I hate bringing up the thought of evaluating him after three years because it will inevitably bring up responses about the old "three year rebuild", but that really does feel like the minimum amount of time before you can really know what kind of GM someone is.

    Point taken.

But I am keenly interested in how he uses the assets the team has - and how he justifies them. He needs to build a team. I want to see a foundation.

It is an important year. While Shrader is of course right, we shouldn't crucify or cannonize him too soon, what he does this offseason could very well make the difference between getting it right like the Blackhawks/Pens/Avs or dragging this out like the Thrashers/Oliers/Panthers.

  3. Greetings B2theP!

    In six words:

Scouring draft for next young savior.

    sums it up for me.

Yup ... and I am cautiously optimisitc that we have someone now who will pick the right guys ... or trade for the right guys ... or whatever it takes. I was always a defender of Lindy but much less so of Darcy. I feel pretty good about Murray. I am not sold on Nolan as the coach for when they (hopefully) are contenders again, but we'll see who he brings in on the staff and cross that bridge when we come to it.

  4. First post since 2011 ... nothing much has happened, right?

Looking around I still see many familiar names, which is great. I have been meaning to come back since Murray came on board but haven't had much of a chance ... rest assured I've watched every aghonizing minute on the ice ...

So where do we stand? X., eleven, Tom Webster, Ink, Taro, Spndnchz, d4rksabre ... Is AudSmell still around? I am looking at you ... talk to me. Optimistic? Same old, same old? (Forgot shrader ... how did I forget shrader?)

Have to update that avatar ...

  5. I want all out 80s cheese. Let's break out the Karate Kid soundtrack.

"You're the best ... around ... nothin's gonna ever keep ya down!"

(if you need a youtube clip to sing along, well, you're not going to get the joke anyway.)

  6. With the talk of suicide, autism and such on this thread, this really barely registers as a complaint ... but it is what it is ... I am a pretty lucky guy.

We are scheduled to get the whole-house DVR thing from DirecTV on Monday ... which is great, but I also have to pull all the stuff recorded on the current DVRs and put what we want to save on DVDs ... also no big deal on the surface.

However ... my 3-year old son LOVES him some Handy Manny ... I have already filled SEVEN four-hour DVDs and just started on the eighth, which will also be just about full by the time I am done. For those scoring at home, yes, that means by this afternoon I will have spent 32 hours of my life working with Handy Manny in the background over the last couple weeks. And the ridiculous thing is that I know there is no way he will ever watch them all, because he only watches it for like a half hour a night after his bath and before bed. I suppose they will come in handy (ugh, no pun intended, I am losing it) if we ever go on a long car trip ...

  7. So does the right one still retain that title or does it become the center nut?

I think it either keeps its title (if you lose your left hand, your right hand is still your right hand) or it's just NUT ... I mean, you don't have your center nose between your left and right eyes ...

  8. There is a brewery in St. Mary's, PA called Straub's. The beer they brew is called "hi-test" by the locals as the brewery lets the beer "ferment out"; that is, they allow it to ferment until all of the sugars have been eaten up by the yeasties. This results in a very clean, not very filling beer that is slightly higher in alcohol content than regular beer. If you can lay your hands on some (you might have to drive down into PA to find it), pack a few bottles in ice then go mow the lawn or trim the hedges. When you are good and thirsty, crack one open and I guarantee it will be the most thirst-quenching, clean-tasting beer you've ever tried. (If you just drink one out of the fridge on a Friday night after work, well, it'll still be OK).

I went to high school about a half hour from there and the locals will also swear by the fact that it's impossible to get a hangover from drinking Straub's (I guess because of the sugar factor mentioned above, but there's an equal chance this is an urban legend. Or, rural legend, to be more accurate for that neck of the woods ...)

  9. My situation is probably far more boring. I'm guessing it's the mouse that I've seen wondering around from time to time.

We used to freak this chick out because our giant printer/copier/fax machine was in its own little room with the automatic light ... and if you printed something, the paper coming out would trigger it. Took her weeks to figure out what the hell was going on.

  10. two words.."Sling Box" if you travel a lot put one on your extra tv cable box.watch your tv from anywhere in the world.

Well the problem is not that I am traveling but that I live out of town ... if the game never makes it to my TV, a slingbox isn't going to help no matter where I am.

The game might be on the NHL Network tonight so it wouldn't show up on Center Ice

Checked that, it's not there either. We'll see what happens I guess, hopefully since I have the sports package and Center ice it will show up on either MSG or CSN ...

  11. Are any other out-of-town DirecTV folks NOT seeing the game listed on Center Ice? Usually by now they have any kinks worked out ... it's listed on 638 and 643 but those are supposed blacked out when you are out of market ... although there have been times I have seen games on them ...

  12. While I am very grateful to still have a job, I will voice a complaint here that layoffs have left us with half the people to do the same amount of work ... and in some cases they laid off the wrong damn people.

Also, no offense SwampD, but while I am complaining, Super Bowl is two words ....

  13. I'm a big fan of chaining a cinder block to one of their rims. Harmless inconvenience if they have a spare, but if they forget to keep it inflated... :chris:

So, like, do you keep a cinderblock and chain in your truck ... just in case? I mean, I am assuming you don't make a special trip to The Home Depot every time ...

  14. How the hell did I miss this the first time through? Good stuff, BtP....

I agree, but to borrow a phrase from a TSW rant thread - "it is what it is." I expect bad attitudes and crappy service from 90% of the fast food industry. The big exception is Chick-fil-A - they always seem to have happy people who actually don't act like you're a bother when you actually dare to order food. I've never dealt with a bad employee at a Chick-fil-A. I've heard they treat their employees very well and really work at removing workers with bad attitudes/customer service skills.

I have noticed this also ... in my experience, it seems MANY more of their workers are of a different demographic than your average fast-food worker. At least around here, it seems like a lot of them are middle-aged women who are working part time because they want to get some extra cash, not because they are trying to make ends meet ...

thanks for noticing that other post too, i thought it was just a bad line for a minute there.

  15. Labatt, what happened anyway? Did some hippie spit in your Super Mighty Burrito this afternoon?

Since we are complaining, I hate when I talk to a friend from Buffalo (or see it on a message board like this) and someone "food drops" ... like, "Gotta go, we're going to Ted's!" or "Just got back from Duff's!" or any mention of Might Taco, Anderson's, Bocce's, Bob and John's .... the list goes on .... it makes me hungry and jealous that I am so far away. .

  16. along the same lines as mentioned above...

no one forced them to take that job, if they don't care about it don't take it... "not paying me enough" isn't really a good reason to act like an a$$hole when the job description they agreed to is being followed. If people are asked to do things that aren't in their job description, "not paying me enough" can be a valid excuse... but I'm pretty sure the Fast Food Cashier job description has something to the effect of being polite, friendly, accomodating, and always making the customer feel welcome.

Case in point, there was a worker at a local Subway, she was awesome, friendly, happy, polite... made me feel good going in there... she left and the people they have now are grumpy idiots, needless to say I don't go to the Subway anymore. The nice worker got a job at Dunkin Donuts, now I go in there specifically to order from her. I told her she was missed at Subway and we were glad to see her working close by again. (it's not because she's hot or anything either, just a good worker who you could appreciate)

Dude, why are you stalking the friendly fat girl from Subway to Dunkin Donuts? ;)

  17. Oh, I know what you mean, by my thinking was that they can go ahead and fire me, they don't pay me enough to care more about the job, especially when up here, they can pay you less then minimum wage before you turn 16 under "student minimum wage" for doing the same job as everyone else

Yeah but once you hit 16, Kevin Lowe can offer you a ridiculous offer sheet and your McDonald's will have to match and pay you like the 23-year old Fry Guy.

  18. OK here is the deal ... I have a BLACK, XL, autographed Rhett Warrener jersey that I am looking to get rid of ... not that I don't like the guy but I like to wear my jerseys, and this one is not only too small but like I said is signed, so I would probably not wear it anyway. It is in perfect condition, a friend of mine who used to work for Adelphia won it in some office raffle back in the day.

I have no idea what I can get for it and like I said I'm not trying to get rich. I'd even probably trade it for a black XXL jersey if anyone has one that is basically new also ... blank would be fine, if it is a player it would depend on the guy.

PM me for pics if you are interested ....
