  1. OK I googled it. It is Gustav. I just assumed I misrembered and liger was right when he called him Johan

I had a dream last night that I was the GM of an NHL team, and on Draft Day I was intending to draft a European player named Sven.  But he had already done a bunch of photoshoots of himself in a Coyotes uniform prior to the draft, so it was awkward.

  2. Finally committed to Cake at Ommegang Brewery (in Cooperstown)!  Friday May 26.

Does anyone have any suggestions for attending a show there?  It looks like General Admission.  Additionally, it looks like I was too late to purchase the additional camping tickets for $15 each.  I guess we will probably just drive to a nearby state park and camp there?

Oh, also might do Metallica in Denver, they're playing at the Broncos' stadium in June.  Also will probably take my gal to Avett Brothers at Red Rocks!  (Moving to Colorado next week, but coming back to Rochester for Cake and Tool over Memorial Day weekend.)

  3. It isn't bad. He was severely limited in ice time and opportunity in his draft year because of the depth of his team. He stepped up and basically produced at mid first round numbers, granted he is almost a year older then most draft eligible guys this year. Short answer, it is a good step forward and so yes, it is good.

Are we thinking Amerks for Pu next year, then?  What are the options?

  4. London Knights eliminated by the Erie Otters in seven games in Round One.

Cliff Pu had 2G+5A=7P, with 27 SOG and a -3 in the seven-game series.

He also finished the season with 35G+51A=86P, 186SOG and +25 in 63 games during the regular season.  Is that good?

  5. Bump again.  ANA, PIT, and NSH all have moved on from Round One.  CGY, CBJ, and CHI*** have all been eliminated.

Six Sabre(s)Spacers had Chicago as their Champ.

Only two SS'ers have chosen the first three victors correctly: TrueBlue and "Lukas K".  "Lukas K" holds the lead after the bonus for picking PIT's victory in exactly 5 games.

*** Apparently it was not a good round for teams hailing from cities beginning with the letter "C".  Not looking great for Carolina and Colorado, either.

  6. Crazy stuff...NHL Linesman Don Henderson, who got smoked from behind by Dennis Wideman a while back, is suing the player for 10 million dollars! The team, Calgary Flames, are also named in the suit.

Of course there was the issue of whether Wideman did it on purpose at the time and that remains a hotly debated subject (sure looked like he did it on purpose). Henderson has not been in a game since and his career is in jeopardy.

Rumors are that the NHL thought he had become a liability and his work was failing and open to debate as to whether he was doing a job worthy of the NHL. This should get real ugly I would think. Very interesting indeed...

Link? I didn't realize at the time that Henderson was severely injured(?) during the altercation.  Hmm.

  7. We have three leaders after the Ducks completed their sweep of the Flames: 38, Derrico, and "Eric H" were the only ones to predict the Ducks' victory as a sweep.

26 of the other 30 entrants also correctly picked Anaheim.  Of note, TrueBlue's SA-CF% had Calgary winning.... womp womp.

  8. They are treating Vegas as if they were the third-worst team this past season, so the Avs and 'nucks have better odds than Vegas does.  Since the NHL will draw 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall in the lottery, the Sabres could end up with #1, #2, #3, #6, #7, #8, or #9.

I would look at it this way: The Sabres have a 59.6% chance of drafting 7th or 8th.

  9. For the record, you can create a spoiler simply by bookending the spoiled text as follows (remove the two *'s):

Here's how you'd do it for real (Click 'Reply' to my post to see exact text, but it's just removing the two *'s from the line of text above):

    SPOILED TEXT

  10. That's impressive. Was it an assigned task or just some weird fixation you had? How far along can you go now?

:D More like a weird fixation...

A combination of fascination/nerdyness, boycotting learning anything in English class (where I did all of my studying), and the hilarity of getting my name on a plaque in the Math Showcase.  As co-captain of the Math Team, I convinced our advisor to reinstate the annual pi competition on Pi Day that year.

And I can go 14 digits now, apparently.

  11. Does anyone else remember phone numbers by athlete's names? It was always impressive when you didn't have to write it down, and now, dial it into your phone. It's a little dated for technology so maybe you used to but don't anymore -- you'll see what I mean from the names:

When a girl would tell you her phone number was 585-244-1288, it was Horton-Zhitnik and Kelly to Metzelaars. The 585 was local and a no-brainer.

    Anyone else do this?

I should also mention that when I memorized and recited 483 digits of pi (in senior year of high school), I did something similar.  four-digit years, seven-digit phone numbers, and some others such as player numbers. B-)

  12. Yeesh, it's been longer than I thought on this thread.  And I could swear we had a larger one somewhere.

Trivia Question: Aside from Buffalo, what other U.S. City is home to exactly 1 NHL team, 1 NFL team, and neither an NBA nor an MLB team?

You may not need to dig toooo deep to find the answer, but it is still interesting that only one other sports town like ours exists!

Edit: Hint , if you want it:

The Bills played an away game in this city this past fall...

So, "Vegas" will become the third U.S. City with exactly 1 NHL team, 1 NFL team, 0 MLB teams, and 0 NBA teams, along with Buffalo and the city alluded to in the above post.

I guess the short list of sports towns that are just like Buffalo is now even stranger, huh?

By the way, I wonder if kids these days consider a "Big Four" in American pro sports leagues?  It was definitively those four when I grew up in the nineties.  Was it something else before that (like in the 60s, 70s, 80s)?

  13. I didn't get to listen to most of this but I got the impression that he still has to meet with the Pegulas later on to wrap up the season/make decisions and stuff, and that it would be happening later in Florida, probably when TPegs is back from QB shopping.

    :D to the bold.

Yeah that makes sense.  As posters have supposed in the other thread, hopefully the delay wouldn't cause GMTM to miss the boat on some of these other (currently) available coaches.

  14. How do you view other peoples' brackets?

  I believe the idea is that you can't see one another's brackets until they're final (i.e., 7pm Wednesday).  Otherwise, you could copy or alter your bracket based on what everyone else has......

Not that anyone would copy yours! :w00t:
