You make the leap that there was a guaranteed winning goalie answer waiting to be acquired. In hindsight none of the names floated as targets were either traded or did much better than what the Sabres had. So by standing pat, the Sabres now have UPL without giving anything up. Another vector you ignore is the play of the defense. UPL's rise corresponds to the improvement of the Sabres on defense. (Something I said had to happen last year and got laughed at.)

Another OT loss for Rochester. That's 3 in a row. Scoring has vanished, wasting some very good goaltending. Amerks are clinging to the final playoff spot now. 4-2-3-1 in the last 10. So far this season they are 12th in goals for, 29th in goals against.

Power play issues go all the way to Rochester as well. Couldn't score with a full 2-minute 5-,on-3 advantage. Just brutal.
