Just a note, Beane was here for the first playoffs and that entire season. Only he was added as the GM post the major portions of Free Agency and the draft during the prior offseason. Through that season however he traded Watkins, Darby, Dareus and Ragland; bringing in many of his own players.

ah, you're right, had the timeline wrong there.

There are no guarantees on how this shakes out (take, for example, the very real and open questions about Josh Allen as the QB1), but I will say this: Beane has proven himself to be a sharp ass motherfunkster. He's been really smart about how and when he builds.

And even for all of that, if he and his team were wrong about Allen, then there'll likely be no saving him. That's generally how it is in the NFL, of course.

I actually don't know about that last part. This edition of the Bills has been to the playoffs twice since they've come on (no Beane for the first one). Thats incredible based on the last 20 years or so. I think part of getting Diggs is sort of a "no more excuses, Josh" move. They've done everything they can for him, and have clearly built a competent roster around him. If another year goes by and he's obviously the weak link, maybe they're in the market for a QB, but I think T and K will give them more time.

Except he wouldn't be leaving to win.  He'd be leaving to chase a paycheck.

thats really just conjecture on my part ( and by a few NFL writers I've seen mention it). I have no idea if its the truth, it just makes some measure of sense to me.

    Ego is a crazy thing.

Its really the only thing left for him at this point, I guess. He's proven everything else. He's the greatest QB of all time, if not the most skilled (I still say Montana and Peyton had more raw skill than him). He's probably the greatest PLAYER of all time. He's been in the SB 9 times. 9! Thats the most by any player BY THREE. He's won 6 of them, and gotten the MVP in 4. The guy walks out the door and into the Hall.

Might as well get paid like it once.

The whole thing makes pretty much no sense, but I'm all for it.

I think he wants a contract that makes him the highest paid player in the league. Not for the money, but for the respect. He's taken undervalued contracts for years from the Pats to help the team. Now he wants to get paid like the best player in the league, which he was for a long time.

No way Belichick is giving him that, so he'll play for the Raiders or something weird for 2 years, then retire.

  6. Man, I was thinking about going back this summer for old time's sake. My Grampa lived on Grand Island when I was a kid, so we'd go a few times a year on a weekend and then have dinner with him after, or he'd come with us.

    Strongest memories for me are

    - The wild west shootouts

    - The old timey cars you could drive on the rail. They went about 2 miles an hour, but I could drive when I was like, 8!

    - Riding on the kiddy roller coaster with my sister a million times because she was too little to ride anything else.

Yet to see someone who wants Botterill fired to come up with any realistic alternative timeline that would've made a difference.  Assume ROR was a decision from above, and those UFA's Botterill offered more money to and didn't land no other GM would have either.

Yes we all want something to happen today, but trades are hard.  He still managed to get us a bonafide ELC top-2 defenseman for a total bust and Jeff Skinner for a 2nd round pick.  Our future outlook is great.  It's just six more months until he can really start focusing on winning now without having to hemorrhage the future to do so.

Even if that's true your GM has to be able to convince the owners of the right path, even if it puts their neck on the line. Terry isn't Jerry Jones or even Ralph, I think if a Smart Hockey Guy told him it would be a huge mistake and really put himself out there for it they'd listen. At the end of the day either Botterill agreed with the idea or didn't have enough of a backbone to fight against it, either of which is a failing of the GM.

Yeah, I don't put much into that crap.  Do you?

eh, its so broad, why not just call it a lower body injury then? And I think they do have SOME accountability to the league to be honest about it. I know with the NFL you can get fined if they find out you outright lied about an injury report; I assume the NHL is similar.  Not that they couldn't do it, or that it doesn't happen, but I don't see why they'd bother when its already so obfuscated.

My guess is a nagging quasi-high ankle sprain or something like that.

Something that has been bothering him for a while but has been kept in check.  It flared up the other night in the pre-game skate and they figured better to rest that night than have the situation blossom into a full blown injury in the game.

Must be pretty high on the ankle if its an upper body injury?

My family's dog once ate an elderberry pie that was supposed to be for my dad's birthday. Its been 10 years since then, the dog went to doggie heaven over a year ago now, and my dad still hasn't forgiven her.

It's been nothing but bulletin board material for them all week long.

Athletes: "We don't listen to the media, we shut that all out to focus on our game."
Also Athletes: "Donnie and the Badger from KRTY in West Nebrahoma said our uniform colors are only 15th in the league, PUT IT ON THE BULLETIN BOARD."

So I dont drink ETOH, but I have heard there are some non alcoholic craft beers... I recently tried a Guiness version called Caliber... not bad... just curious for us non drunks or no longer drunks if anyone knows of any good alternatives?

Depending on what your level is I've heard Kombucha is a good alternative. Has sort of that bitter hit of a beer w/ a very low alcohol level (like 0.5%). They make hopped ones, too.

  13. There definitely used to be a beer thread.

I did my yearly Christmas ritual of going shopping by myself on transit near the Eastern Hills Mall (or the ruins of it, anyways), then going across the street to the brew pub for French Onion soup and 2-3 various Christmas Ales, then back to shopping. They're always some of my favorite beers of the year. Celebration by Sierra Nevada and the Great Lakes Christmas are always excellent.

I also had a Yule Shoot Your Rye Out rye winter ale which was excellent a few days ago during the Bills game.

They should get to 10. But it wont mean much if one of those wins isn't against a team like Baltimore, Dallas, Pittsburgh, or NE. Beating the Browns, Broncos, Dolphins and Jets would just be more of the same from this season.

I'm convinced they're going to lose to the Dolphins in two weeks. Honestly at this point the only win I'd put money on is the Jets who are a tire fire.
