  1. Nix and Gailey kept McKelvin after the huge f*ckup last year; the GM/coach change did not matter. Witness 2 weeks ago against Pitsburgh (I am spelling it that way from now on).

Exactly. The Sabres did not need a desperate breakout pass, just like the Bills did not need a desperate long return in Sept. '09. A flip up the boards, or a pass behind the net, would have been fine.

I'm not even talking about Weber. Worrying about Weber now is like debating what type of shoes the fat girl is going to wear to the prom. Does it matter?

  2. And can we please stop blaming a loss by an 11-17 team on the refs?

The refs were horrible, both ways. There were about 5 consecutive instances of icing/no icing that were perplexing. They didn't call Hecht for waterskiing 30 yards tethered to the crotch of a Bruin. And I sure as heck don't want them deciding the game in OT. The high stick had to be called as there was a 2 inch gash next to his eye. Here's the deal....they weren't going to call another penalty on Buffalo. Chop the daylights out of Rechhi's back and knees, and maybe he isn't on top of Miller.

    Make your own luck.

  3. On Weber: If he sees Horton he doesn't make that play. Weber plays a pretty safe game.

In all the games I've seen with him, I would say that is an atypical mistake.

And if the guy sees the chorizo at the begining of The Crying Game, it isn't a 2 hour movie.

  4. Boy, that sure is a bucket of cold water dumped over the head.

Maybe Lindy just needs to find more podiums to pound his fist on.

  5. Jack...

They are 30% into the season and have 19 points.

They need 74 points in 59 games for a realistic shot at #8

When Tim Connolly was taking remedial math back in high school.....and his average was 50 on January 3rd.....The math teacher knew it was going to be a longshot for him to pass the class, let alone get an A in it.

I am proud of the majority of the board to finally reach a point in their fandom where they understand sometimes being a real fan means stepping up out of the la-la land of blind support, and demanding some sort of effort from top down before they keep feeding the junkie's habbit. Larry Quinn and the Sabres are on the run right now. They are cutting prices on tickets and running gimmick promotions almost every game now. Like I said in the preseason.....the 16,000 season ticket holders is smoke and mirrors.....the city is tired of giving up their hard earned $$$ to watch Darcy spend his days helping his son with his backswing instead of helping this team grow a pair.

We are so used to watching crap that everyone gets excited when the team puts up an honest effort for a few consecutive games. It's not good enough. It should have never been good enough. And now the cupboard is so bare that even with an honest effort this team falls short regularly.

I've been sick for 4 years Jack.....and for once, I smell blood in the water and the sharks are circling HSBC. Larry's on the run....and in the best interests of SabreNation....this needs to bottom out NOW.

If the Sabres lose tonight, they are a confirmed bad team in my opinion, effort and talent aside. They will have cememnted their downtrend on Carp's charts and will be lucky to finish the season near 80 points.

Papa doesn't hand out cookies to spoiled brats and reward them for stopping a temper tantrum. You only re-enforce their lackluster behavior.

  6. Ok, I was going to throw Butler in as a comparison to see if you thought Sekera was REALLY worse than him, but then I read the rest of your post and realized you were obviously just joking by the whole, "more respect for Kalinin..." ending.

    Nice touch!

No, Kalinin was a better all around player. He had Sekera's vision, but had size to win battles. He was the best 4 on 4 defender this team has had the past decade. Like Sekera though, he made too many turnovers..but his were unforced which drove everyone batty.

Sad thing is, Sekera is probably the 3rd best Dman on the team right now behind Montador and Leopold. Myers has looked awkward most of the year. Maybe something can be said about pairing those two....but bottom line is this team is 8-15. So being the median Dman on an 8-15 team isn't a rave review.

Morrison will probably prove more valuable come the playoffs.

  7. I'm not down on Sekaras playing ability. I've actually liked his play this year. What I was commenting on was that particular play which I'll reiterate by saying it was real weak. There's no denying that. Also,I don't care if its the great one stripping him of the puck. You have to be stronger on the puck than that.

He was playing well the past few weeks, but he is the WEAKEST d-man I have seen on this team...forever. I don't know why Ruff is so in love with him considering he can be moved off the puck by a lake Erie gust. He also plays scared when the games count. Yes, he has talent and can be smooth, but I had more respect for Kalinin by far.

  8. Remember in Spaceballs when they made the jump from Light Speed to Plaid to Ludicrous Speed.

I think Vanek has made the jump to Plaid.

    :clapping:

And Connolly has gone from suck, to blow.

I like Vancouver a bunch too. I was fired as a consultant after the 1st when none of the 45 foot floaters made it in the net.

  9. In my men's league, I was busting between two defensemen near the tops of the circles when I was tripped. As I tripped forward, the puck was out in front of me and I jammed at it hard with one hand on the stick. Just as I did that, the goalie relaxed from his stance, stood straight up and it slid 5-hole. :)

Tell us more....I'm going to go get some cognac and lotion....
