  1. Best Euro ever? That's a toughie. Not sure I'd take Dom before Forsberg or Lidstrom if I were starting a team. Or maybe Peter Stastny. There's also Selanne and, if Russians are included, Bure. And Malkin and Ovechkin will put themselves in this discussion by the time they're done.

And I think I would also take Perreault before Dom if I were starting a team.

you always take the superstar goalie first. you do realize that dom carried an average team to the finals once and deep into the playoffs a few times.add malkin or ovechkin or any of them to an average team and you get a slightly above average team.

  2. OK....here's an interesting storyline...

How will Hodgson fare under Ted Nolan? It's one thing to be called out and benched as a floater by Ron Rolston, but given the family backstory and Nolan's insistence on bringing 100% effort and intensity, is Hodgson going to be the poster boy for setting the guys straight? If you're going to make a guy work til he pukes, he sure seems like the target.

Pierre Turgeon was the greatest floater in the history of hockey

From an old TBN article in 2002:

A few months ago, Nolan saw the movie "Ali" and starting thinking. Muhammad Ali went to prison after refusing to fight in the Vietnam War. He was exiled from boxing, but he never stopped thinking he was a champion. Eventually, he came back and proved himself again.

"I never stopped being a coach," Nolan said. "And I never stopped being a good coach."

Ali didnt go to prison..but if Nolan believes it and it makes him a better coach...-God bless him then.

  3. Just a quick note on Moulson. Right now he is shooting at .214% where as his average is .141% thus I would expect his scoring pace to slow and regress towards his average. Note that his season high sh% since he made it full time is .164%

For those of you who are math challenged like myself it means that currently Moulson is scoring on 21.4 out of 100 shots where as his average is 14.1 out of 100. Roughly speaking for a guy who takes a little over 200 shots a year this means he is on pace to score 10more goals than average. That seems unlikely but he could theoretically do it.

At his current pace based on shot percentage he would net 46.8goals on 218.6shots.

If you used his average shot percentage (.141) he would have 30.8goals and if you used his best (.164) 35.8goals. Both of which are very probable given his last 3 full seasons and even counting the lockout shortened season from last year.

Edit: Note that if you used his current GPGA he would get roughly 54.6goals this season which IMPO is not plausible.

dont mean to get too picky.....but its not .214% or .141%---its 21.4% or 14.1%

  4. Paul Hamilton on WGR right now stating that firing Regier now would be a clown move.

    I agree.

IMHO, The time to fire him was when Terry took over or when Lindy was fired. Firing now would make Pegula look foolish. The man has an ego, he's not goin to expose himself like that.

I don't really want Darcy here, but he's not getting fired now.

but firing him now would prevent him from making any more decisions
  5. If people are unwilling to pay an additional 8 dollars a month in taxes for improvement in public school athletic facilities, I seriously doubt they'd want to pay x amount to keep a football team in their city. This isn't making reference to any city/school system in western New York. However, things like this do happen nation wide.

would be idiotic for people to pay any amt in taxes to subsidize billionaires in a multi-billion dollar sport

  6. Being no hockey expert...could any of you experts explain to me how so many so called 'offensive' forwards on the sabres who get so much ice time over so many games can score so few goals??--I mean even if you lobbed the puck in the general direction of the net a few will bounce by the goalie over time.So to try and score goals and have only 4 or 6 or 8 at this time of the year being full time players making millions....-I think james patrick could go out there at his age and score 7 or 8 goals over 70 games if he played enough. Lindy could probbly score 3-4.
