same here, as a fan watching two horrible seasons it would really suck to have him stay in school. Yes I get the long term picture but also i want to be able to watch a hockey team grow, with most prospects on the big club. I really think he has less than a 10% chance of staying in school.
He is on a diff physical level than other prospects who have returned to NCAA
you are 19 yrs old. u have the chance to make 1 million dollars the first year..or you could go back to BU and say "daddy can I borrow $100 me and the guys are gonna rent a room up in cape cod for the weekend and my allowance wont quite cover it.."

Unbelievable. The judges and parole board should be in prison.

awesome pic!!!

How's EJ Manuel doing?
They installed the broad side of a barn at Bills practice facility

Was wondering how long it would take for somebody to take issue w/ that. Surprised it took that long.
More surprised that you're ok w/ the Gretzky comparison, but not the Mario one. Both of these guys have a long way to go to earn such comparisons, and the odds are against either reaching these peaks, but right now it's cool to think of the possibilities of what the ceilings could be.
Where the ceilings top out is very debatable right now, but I see the differences betwwen the 2 as the differences between those 2 all timers.
well I wasn't really focusing on the gretzky part....but mcdavid is the most exciting hockey player to come out since at least Crosby...and he could become a gretzky. But the way you stated it made it seem as if there was in fact drop off from gretzky to Lemieux .That is debatable.they are both on the hockey mount rushmore with ORR and HOWE. Eichel wont be that kind of a player. McDavid 'could' be.
-
that's just painful to watch....the kid is Michael jordan
-
While Eichel is more of a B's style player; I simply can't see anyone (outside of possibly Beantown due to the hometown factor) passing on McDavid. Especially can't see a team based in Canada passing on him. Even further, can't see the organization that let national treasure Gretzky head south of the border let the latest national treasure head to the 'wrong' side of the Niagara.
I've built myself up to prefer Eichel, but I believe the majority of that is my expectation that is who the Sabres will get w/ a bit of nationalistic pride thrown in as well. If it truly was Sabres choice and I could make the pick, when all is said & done, pretty sure it has to be McDavid. Eichel is so smooth, but McDavid makes you get out of your seat. He moves like Afinogenov but w/ Selanne-like hands.
To me, it's Gretzky-Lemieux, but I have a hard time taking Mario over Wayne. Fortunately, for us, can't see either missing.
Gretzky LEMIEUX?????????????????????? come on I love Eich ...but lets keep it on planet earth here. Gretzy-- Modano is more like it.

No offense, but I always thought that was a crock.
Interesting. Thanks.
Why is that a crock? Regulations on many things can certainly have reverse the intended effect.--The bigger and stronger argument is the crock imho

Let's not let perfect be the enemy of good. Basic, first step: get rid of fighting. Despite all the information the league has about concussions, the fact it still allows the game to be stopped so guys can hit each other in the head is asinine.
fighting is good in hockey. gets the frustration out so that it gets vented less when the players have sticks in their hands.
less fighting= more injuries

Retired gigolo.
So, now I have been operating my own accounting practice for over 10 years.
I'm a professional accountant ... equivalent of a CPA.
did 'life go on...withoutyou'?

It takes a special person to become an athlete. If it were easy everybody would do it. Hockey has become an over-regulated, over-protected sport and it has led to a more dangerous sport. Not more physical, more dangerous.
There are some things you just can't get rid of. It's a form of entertainment, one of which pays well for its best athletes..... even for the lesser ones to a point. What's next, do we take speed out of racing?
Why should the NHL, or the PA become more responsible for transitioning players into civilian life? Hockey players now know what they're getting into, its not like this comes as a surprise. If I decide to leave my job, I don't see them doing anything to make it easier for me to find another job.
Now I can see a need for a special group of medical professionals that cares for athletes post-retirement. A specialized group of doctors might make it cheaper to deal with issues instead of just relying on a family doctor using a civilian medical plan.
Very interesting what you bring up. And I agree. Over regulation in sports has led it to be more dangerous. When football was played with leather helmets guys were tackling with their shoulder.they would never spear a guy because of the false sense of security of the custom super-duper model helmet they are wearing. More advanced equipment = false sense of security.
Same with hockey. Guys had to wear helmets as we all know after a certain year.Again false sense of security. The lack of a helmet may have led to a less pretty face --but the helmet also makes players act in ways they wouldn't have before.
And without the helmet guys would their frustrations out ..like a pressure valve...So they wouldn't act out dangerously while play was going on.Same with football.
The bigger faster stronger stuff is not the reason for increased injury.--And besides-some of the hardest hitters come in small packages(Peca).

If you don't feel like watching this whole video target these three highlights:
0:13 -- Double assist by passing it to himself and then a beauty no-look out front.
1:37 -- Awesome fight for the puck and then an incredible move without hesitation for the goal.
2:48 -- The flash. He's not just a strong player but an amazing skater with quick hands. Tight space but still creates a great scoring chance.
3:23 feathers the pass over the Dmans stick creating perfect set-up of teammate in stride .

When I was in college we used punch cards.
those things were like kudzu

To read this board today, you would think they would be crazy not to!
..well--the 'eichel is stronger' kinda stuff may be true but everyone was stronger than the 162 LB Gretzky in the 1980s. Messier was certainly stronger;)

Man I would be so pissed if Grigo gets traded. We are finally at a point were we can roll three lines with little drop off and you guys want to trade our third line center. IMO we have our centers for the next decade with 1c Eichel, 2c Reinhart, and 3c being Grigo.
The thing I don't get is. We finally get to were we need to be and everybody here wants to start trading our talent away. We are not going to be a playoff team next year. So everybody needs to slow down and have some patience. This year is about development, not trading our future away for guys like Mike Green and RoR.
we may not be far from the playoffs next yr. depends on maturity of Rinehart and free agent aquisitions

Edmonton is the absolute best place for McDavid if he didn't end up in Buffalo. Three small town cheers for Edmonton.
If the bruins or kings or leafs got him it woulda been a nightmare.
I excited to get Jack as well. We have a mini team usa right now. Eichel I believe is ready for the pro game. He's a strong kid and will only get stronger. I'm excited for the draft and what other moves Murray has planned. And no I don't want O'Reilly. I'm not trading a ton of players for him.
Eichel is gonna be freaky strong as he matures. The kid has the strength of a 28 yr old already.

How many takes do you suppose they'll have to do until they pick Toronto?
hehe
-
chances are neither the sabres, coyotes nor the oilers will win.
just as long as its not the bruins or kings.
-
This is kind of fun.
And depressing at the same time.
Oddly enough, it came up Sabres 2 out of the 10 times I tried. Hmm.
came up 2/10 for me as well................... and 3/10 for ARIZ... 1 each EDM,SJ,COL,NJ,TOR

Evander Kane is more of a wannabe mobster than he is a wannabe gangsta. I haven't seen a track suit since the Sopranos were on.
I heard he was spotted in the track suit,,wearing a gold chain and bracelet at an Italian deli on the west side.

In 5 years Ted Nolan will be more loved in this town than Tim Murray.
That is more a knock on Murray than a compliment to Nolan. After this past press conference I question if Murray has what it takes to be a long term GM in this league. He looked and sounded like he was in over his head.
why do you say that?? I think gmtm has done a masterful job so far. Our line-up with Mceichel and maybe a free agent or two is looking very very good.
An insult to the fans, sure, but it's in keeping with the league party line that teams simply don't tank. If he admitted it for the sake of the fans, he'd probably face league sanctions. Better to put the best team he can on the ice and make the fans happy in a year or two with a winning team.
A true rebuilding effort is a very acrimonious task. Even if you're not trying to tank for a top pick, you have to make the commitment to exchange the present for the future, which means that while you're in the midst of it, the present will suck for a while. The future isn't quite here yet but it's getting closer.
Look at what the Sabres left behind; you only have to peek over at the Western Conference where ol' LIndy Ruff valiantly battled for that last playoff spot and ended up in 10th. That's what the Sabres had become, year after year. The rebuild was the right course of action. Murray may or may not be the right guy to carry it out. Not knowing how the team will look a year or two from now is the source of a lot of the strife on the forum right now. If they're making deep playoff runs in a few years then obviously Murray was the guy. If the team is still faltering, he'll be replaced. But how he handled Nolan's dismissal will not be part of the reason for sacking GMTM.
that is so true. the sabres were definitely becoming predictably borderline(no not psychologically but playoff-wise). The Briere debacle was a strong sign of things to come.

I think Murray summarizes the entire presser perfectly in the last 30 seconds or so. All of the people hating on Murray for this haven't SEEN this presser and that last 30 seconds. Murray wants to improve the team, and he means it. He didn't think keeping Nolan here was going to contribute to the scope of improvement he wants to see. What else is he supposed to do?
Yes. And he showed pure class during the whole interview.Didnt sully Ted one bit.

Not to pick an old scab, but I thought nobody ever got fired from a Tpeg's joint. Leave it to Buffalo sports to get him handing out pink slips like band flyers for a gig at Nietzsche's.
Nietzsches...now that brings back memories from 30-40 yrs back. They are still around?? They had some of the most interesting/weird/talented performers...And I'm not exclusively talking about the musicians
-
Lets face reality. Ted is a good coach but he always gets quickly fired...Only those who work closely with him could explain that. When someone gets quickly canned at several places the logical assumption is that he is truly a pain in the butt. Because he is a good coach and based on team performances he shouldn't be getting fired everywhere.
He knew he was gonna get canned so he put superhuman effort in to mess up the tank. If it weren't for the miracle work of the great saint Toews we would have blown it.

not really. we didn't make that horrendous draft choice. All the avg FL state fans and anyone with any common sense knew not to draft him with that high a pick if at all...except for the geniuses at one bills drive who have contributed to the bills 15 yr horror story at QB.At some point laughter is good medicine.
