  1. As I watch this , great find btw, and the Sabres are live on TV, the difference in hockey then to now is  goalies and their equipment. Not exactly a water shed statement, but Lindback fills 3/4's of the net, goalies back then where lucky to fill a 1/3.

... And they stumbled backwards, save after save.

  2. I have turned over my leaf. "We got this". The Desert Dogs win 62.6% of their games played within two weeks of Federal Income Tax deadlines. Buffalo loses after beating teams south of the Mason Dixon line and three day breaks 81.9% of the time. Buffalo's Corsi is -39.1 when Mike Weber's lower body is out of commission.

I am channeling Claude and TBPhD.

  3. And the following year.....

You got me ... Missed the playoffs?

Edit ... I just googled. They did miss the playoffs. The Bruins scored 349 goals!

    I googled again ... Edmonton scored 446 in 83-84! 5.4 per game!

OK, I'm a googling machine .... Three Oilers totaled 193 goals ... Buffalo has 155 this year. My, how the game has changed.

  4. I have tickets to the Penguins game to end the season ... going with my son-in-law. I want to cheer the team like hell knowing that 30th place had been locked up before the weekend. I considered a "Thank You Sabres" chant, but I'd have to berate myself for doing so. That would truly make me a dirt bag.

How many of you remember the significance of the "Thank You Sabres" chant?

Game six, 1973, Sabres v Canadiens?

  5. On the other hand, it could turn amp up the Buffalo-Toronto rivalry to epic status.  As long as we beat them in the playoffs, I'd be okay with them getting McDavid.  Remember it takes more than a single player to make a team good; Buffalo's just completing the process but the tire fire in Toronto is still burning strong.  They'd probably waste 2-4 seasons of McDavid's career getting their act together.

I've felt the same way about the Leafs getting "the one we don't get". Before anyone confuses this with a guaranty, I think it sets up a decade or more of even more intense rivalry. At the risk of being ostracized, I like the Leafs.

  6. A few of you understand this was never about one player.

For the rest it was obviously unicorns, and rainbows.

And we're still leading this ###### thing.

You may be right.  Tell me what it WAS about.

If you use the phrase "leading this thing", aren't you pointing to the race to the unicorn?
