Ha, I had a pair of Daoust skates (used) as a kid, with the clear plastic chassis.    Most comfortable pair of skates I've ever had.   There was some hockey supply store up near Niagara Falls (on the Canadian side IIRC), where my Dad would by me used gear.

That store would have been Cupolo’s.  My minor hockey years included many purchases from this place which is now closed.  Back in the day, it was hockey heaven for equipment.

  2. Nice to witness our boys achieve a share of franchise history tonight.

Sat in Section 106, 10 rows up and saw Sam throw that pass directly at me as Nate roofed it top shelf where mama hides the cookies!

The count up to 10 happened so many times I don’t have a voice left!

The house was rocking and everyone was high fiving each other just like it used to be 12 years ago!

Also Labatt Brewhouse was a pretty good place to warm up before the game.  Really liked the meatballs!

  3. Hey everyone,

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted, but I’m always lurking, and it’s so interesting to read everyone’s comments and laugh at the good jokes.  Since it seems like good times are here again, I thought I would get nostalgic and start a memorabilia thread.  I had to change my avatar and thought these old school beauties would be a good idea.  I’ve got a couple other old ones, but will wait for a while to see if someone else has the same.  These are from back in the ‘80’s, when a souvenir was something cool.

  4. Almost went to the game. Friend of mine wanted to go and we saw seats on stubhub for $85 in section 108, but then my washer decided to break...damn...would have been nice to put some faces to names. I know I'm not a regular poster, but when it comes down to Sabres beating the Leafs, I have to chime in. My TSN screen name (when they used to allow comments on their site) was Sabres>Leafs. Glad my influence wasn't needed tonight (7-0-1 record in games attended this year), and happy you all got to experience probably the best game of the year. It would be great to see pic's from anyone who is willing to share from the meetup tonight. All the best SabreSpacers! Until next Monday, when we hopefully experience Groundhog Day at the KeyBank Center!

  5. As far as networks go, what is SN1 and City TV?

These are the Rogers-based Canadian channels (Sportsnet, Sportsnet 1, CityTV, FX-Canada) that replaced TSN and CBC as the national broadcasters for the NHL this year.

(CBC will still show Saturday night games for you guys down in Buffalo for at least the next 4 years, but there will be so many more channels to watch different games on up here on a Saturday night.)

This is good for people like me, since the Sabres screwed most of their regular Canadian fans by simulcasting most available Sabres MSG games (those that didn't conflict with Hockey Night in Canada) on Bell TV for people in the Niagara region (not available on the cable company, Cogeco) (also making them no longer available on NHL Centre Ice), which only about 20% of people in Niagara have as their TV provider.

  6. Apologies if this has already been addressed but, I am wondering if our prospect is in the last year of his junior eligibility and his team gets knocked out will that player join Rochester this year. I am thinking about Grigs of course, but are there other players that are in their last year of junior eligibility (is Justin Bailey at that stage?) that would be slated for Roch if their team gets knocked out? Thanks in advance. Gotta change the avatar again with Patty gone...

  7. I feel bad for Weber. I thought he played a pretty solid game until he had that huge mistake. I feel worse for Adam. He scores his first NHL goal and then takes the fluke high sticking penalty to lose it. At least Weber helped save the other point with Miller out of position near the end. The Sabres had other glorious chances to win but I can't count how many open nets the Bruins missed. I couldn't believe it. The officials had a bad game, the refs missed that punch and Miller's interference claim at the end, and the linesmen messed up at least a couple offside calls when the Sabres were clearly onside. I almost never complain about the officials, but they were atrocious tonight. The Bruins are a bigger stronger and I would say more polished team. I hate them, and I've hated them ever since the 80's when they ruined us in the playoffs every year. Thankfully we have Toronto to make me feel better every time we play them - at least I can make fun of my neighbors and remember that I'm not a Leaf fan.

  8. Lalime always seems to play the third game in four nights or the 4th in 6. Why not play the better goalie (Miller) when the team is most likely to have the least amount of energy? Play Lalime in the middle games when he would have a fresher team in front of him? I know Miller was injured tonight, but this has never made sense to me. Someone should put this thought in Ruff's head.

  9. To add one thing, the Devils are also without their top defenseman Volchenkov. That doesn't take away from the effort the put out last night. Like Atlanta, they took advantage of their opponent. Considering what the Devils were missing, anything less than two points would be a huge disappointment. Weber is a huge upgrade over Rivet. When Morrisonn comes back Sekera, Butler and Weber need to remain in the lineup. Keep and Rivet out and choose between Leopold and Montador to hit the press box. At +9 it may be harder to sit Montador, at this point he seems to be less of a train wreck than Leopold.

I absoutely cannot believe that Montador is a +9. He looks like a giveaway machine at times and the puck is always hopping over his stick. But, if he is on the ice when good things are happening for us, I guess they have to keep playing him. As a player, I still look at him as upgradeable either by somehow improving his play or by replacing him with someone else. I like the puck handling skills and transition game benefits of Leopold but he needs to use his size in his own end more and not get knocked off the puck so easily. Sekera is having a pretty decent start to the year. I'm not worried about Myers, I really believe he is just off to a slow start, hopefully Lindy hasn't over-coached him to play too much within a system instead of simply letting him play the game to his strengths with his natural instincts like last year. Probably just the normal sophmore slump. I would definitely keep Rivet out if I was coaching but would that force his loss of captaincy? I would simply trade him for a pick or waive him - we're talking about Sabres management here, so it shouldn't be that difficult for them to make a move like that. I think he is told slow too old, has hands of stone and is getting knocked around more and won't be as physicial with a bum shoulder. The only value he has is as a leader in the dressing room, but you have to make a difference on the ice. If you are a liability as a captain it's a problem.

  10. What a difference one night makes. It was the Devils minus Brodeur and Kovalchuk but they played with intensity and a sense of purpose tonight. It was nice to see Weber on the blue line. He looked pretty solid. Hopefully Vanek is starting to wake up. Good thing the next 3 games are on the road. This team needs to get some momentum before they skate at home again. Moral of the last 48 hrs: don't get too high, don't get to low. They will probably finish in 6th or 7th by the end of the year. Before tonight there was only 1 way to go and we started in that direction.

  11. I was there last night and the place seemed dead in the first period, but it also had to be the most frustrating hockey I have watched live in a while. Last year the team came out of gates smoking their play was dominating and the fans were making noise at the games I attended. This is a joke so far this year. It was so hard to actually feel entertained and if any of you would have been there, you would have felt deflated like I did. Instead of cheering Let's Go Buffalo, I was yelling Wake Up Buffalo. You can't play 20 minutes of hockey and start in the 3rd period and expect fans to be going crazy. Show some passion on the ice and the passion from the fans will follow. When you play like you are trying to get your coach fired - not showing up and not winning a single game at home in the first month of the season, the place will be dead. There is no take charge attitude on the ice, these guys can't seem to handle the puck at all, there is no cohesion or chemisty between any of these guys - the D is in shambles. There isn't really a single guy that you can depend on at this point. Among the worst are Rivet and Montador. It is just scary bad. I was watching Vanek closely last night and he shows very little hustle. Connolly has no determination, he is so soft. The new kids are playing like they are rookies and their size limitations are showing up. I hope something happens to get this team moving in the right direction (and I thought I saw the right kind of effort in Chicago and Atlanta) but 0 wins at home and the general inconsistency in the first month is reason for major concern (wonder when the last time was when they didn't win a single home game in a month). I have 5 more games to see and I am glad I didn't pony up major cash this year to see the product on the ice - it's terrible. Maybe it's time for a coaching change, maybe some player shakeup needs to happen, maybe the GM has to admit he hasn't been able to get the right players to Buffalo, maybe the management team has to give the hockey dep't more flexibility in their budget. It all looks broken right now.
