  1. I encourage all people to research who they give money to. Is it true that ALS spends only 25% of the donations they receive on research? Compare Goodwill with The Salvation Army and then decide where you are going to drop off those old clothes. Check the administration costs and the executive salaries of a charity that you are considering donating to. You might be surprised.

  2. Next Friday morning, some guy will do what countless of you have always wanted to do: knock me the ###### out and jam an object up my ass.

Then, in October, I'll have my first colonoscopy...

    I kid.

I'm not having any problems. But in early 2009, my brother died of colon cancer at 54. I was 42 at the time, two years past the age your first colonoscopy is recommended if a sibling of yours has colon cancer.

So I am a stupid, stupid man. I can't say exactly why I've put it off. I'm not afraid of having it done. Maybe I've been a bit neurotic about finding out that something's wrong. Makes no sense, I know.

Anyway, colonoscopy stories, jokes, advice, fears, etc. are welcome.

If I can convince just one other fellow neurotic poster to come along for the ride of their lives, my job will be done here.

I find the "ride of their lives" and colonoscopy in the same sentence sort of gay, if you know what I mean..

  3. This is about to produce some really interesting debate.

Bergdahl's father posted somethings about freeing the rest of Gitmo detainees and that God will repay for the blood of Afghan children.

Sounds like Bergdahl may have seen some of the nasty ###### that, no doubt, happens with our soldiers overseas. Maybe he wasn't a fan of the murdering and raping of innocent Afghan people and walked away. That doesn't make him a hero, but it doesn't make him a villain, if true.

Can you link to something that shows this as anything other than isolated?

Bob Bergdahl's tweet was saved by numerous sources. There is a groundswell of evidence that makes Bowe Bergsdahl look like something between a deserter and a traitor.

  4. Apparently we are in a full scale rebuild... who knew?

    http://www.onthefore...n=articlebottom

It contains this rather accurate quote.

It also contains this rather inaccurate quote.

Heck, three times this season they've tried to assign a player to the minors, and that player has refused to report, the latest being defenseman Rusty Klesla, who was picked up at the Trade Deadline from Phoenix.

  5. The thing i don't get with TN is he seems to have different standards for different people. Some guys have a bad game they are immediately in the press box. Other guys (Weber/McBain) can seem to do no wrong. Seems very inconsistent in that regard. Every coach has their favorites but his seem pretty obvious.

Sorta depends on who is available doesn't it?

  6. I'm even tolerant of you, now, grinreaper. You actually seem funny to me now.

You should take your political stuff elsewhere. If you want to do anything other than a drive-by, post your political stuff in a forum designed for that. How much balls does it take to debate stuff where you are anonymous? Take your snide "fracking" references to PPP and keep them from here.

  7. There are some very respectable posters on this board who have grievances against the current owner. I was wondering what it would take for said posters to "bury the hatchet," so to speak, and treat this day like a new dawn.

For me, this gesture would necessitate Mr. Pegula putting full faith in Mr. Lafontaine to manage the hockey department for 3 years, in effect, becoming a yes-man to Lafontaine for a while, while he learns the ropes.

It would also include a spoken denunciation of the term 'hockey heaven.' That sort of moniker comes after the fact. Call it Hockey Haven, or something less blasphemous, till we get our third, at least.

It would also include a reportable and complete withdrawal from all natural gas related activities, so that he can focus entirely on this new epoch in his life, as family man and owner of the Buffalo Sabres. This is New York State, after all, and the politics of fracking are a complete distraction from the ultimate goal, of winning a Stanley Cup.

That's about all I can think of. How about you?

Your bringing in fracking to this is taking things too far from a hockey discussion. This place is for hockey, not political agendas. Take that schit to PPP over on the Bills side.

  8. There is no reason whatsoever not to go for it in that particular situation. There can be no intelligent debate about it.

This is the deal: They had a first down at (I think) the two yard line. With a little chicanery they could have scored on 1st or 2nd down. This shouldn't be an issue. If they had called the fourth down play on first down, it probably would have worked. Regardless of the win/loss record I feel good about this team.

  9. There are times when Kaleta tries to do too much and winds up delivering a borderline hit. Then, there are times when he doesn't do enough (like being challenged and not dropping them because he doesn't want to take a penalty for instigating). For an "emotion" guy, sometimes he thinks too much.

For those who remember, the old Broad Street Bullies had a player much like Kaleta: Dave "The Hammer" Schultz. (Who actually wound up as a Sabre later in his career). His style of play was to hit anything that wore an opposing team sweater. The difference is that whenever Schultz was challenged to a fight, he never backed down even if it was a guy who had 4 inches and 25 pounds on him. Now, I know this was pre-instigator rule, but you knew that if you even looked at Schultz the wrong way, the gloves would come off and your face was going to hurt very soon.

Kaleta needs to take fewer bad penalties (watch those hits from behind) and drop the gloves more often. He is a very good fighter, and I think if he dropped them even just a little more, other teams would give him a wider berth. He has the bonus of being a very good penalty killer. Schultz managed to score a goal here and there, but his real skill (and the reason he was on the team) was to be, well, the Hammer.

I doubt he would be called for instigating if someone else challenged him.

  10. What a bunch of numbskulls. I read the OP and knew it was authored by by someone who you might describe as not the sharpest pencil in the box. He starts out wanting Chz in a black robe. Judges robes are 90% Bhurkas. That'll make for a fun trial. I say we ask Chz to adjucate this without a robe. (I'm thinking it but not saying, "dis-robed"). I'll plea deal for a little black dress.

OK, I'm wearing one of those horse masks and I'm naked from the waist down.

I'm seeing John Elway as a woman here. Very disturbing.

  11. I have this feeling in my gut that Darcy is a weasel. Maybe you think I'm in left field, but there are a few things banging around in my head that just don't help me think otherwise. Such as:

    - Building the current lineup and selling the "expectation of making the playoffs." As the reality of what he's assembled now is revealed, Ruff becomes the sacrificial lamb at the expense of Darcy's heartless, mentally fragile roster.

    - Giving Ruff mediocrity to work with year after year and holding onto "his" guys beyond their useful life. And adjusting way late to the size and toughness required come playoff time.

    - Dismantling the leadership core of this team (Drury, Briere, McKee), then pouring salt on the wound by botching Vanek (leaving him exposed to an offer sheet) and Roy (allowing him to go to arbitration to ultimately be overpaid). All the while, we're lead to believe he didn't have "the resources" (i.e., ownership with deep pockets) to prevent it.

    - Offering Ted Nolan the one year contract when he became the GM. Say what you will about Nolan, but he had the balz to tell Darcy where to put that embarrassment of a contract offer.

I can't help but think what a mess he's created now, and yet he remains unscathed.

Regier didn't get rid of Drury or Briere. It was circumstances above him that dictated that. He played the loyal employee and kept his mouth shut about it. McKee got more money elsewhere than he proved out deserving. With that said, I liked all three of those players. Vanek can thank his lucky stars that he got such a fine free agent offer, that at the time was ridicuously high. Regier came in and wanted to know if he could work with his coach, that's why Nolan only got a one year offer. Maybe Teddy shouldn't have gotten a hair up his ass over it and realized the situation? I bet he wishes he could do it all over, eh? Anyway, Darcy is not a weasel and Lindy was a good coach for the Sabres. It was time for a change though.
